Unbox MY own book with me: Mother Mort's Carnival of Souls!
I am so excited to show you guys a project I had the honour of working on with the incredibly talented artist Matt Hughes of Ethereal Visions Publishing. We created the characters together, I wrote a horror novella featuring them all and Matt brought the characters to life as a deck of working Oracle Cards.
Here's the blurb:
One night, every few years, a mysterious carnival rolls into town. The age-worn tents unfurl under a blood moon and beacon people to the wonders it holds. Those who flock there find delight, wonder, terror, or death. It all depends on the ticket you possess...Roll Up! Roll Up! Come one, Come all to Mother Mort's Carnival! See sights that will baffle the mind and stretch the imagination!Watch death-defying feats and flirt with danger! A Carnival so good, you'll never leave. Follow young Jane as she discovers the carnival isn't quite like it seems. Will she leave and return to her miserable life, which will, most likely, be cut short by a greedy, evil man, or will she find a family she so desperately longs for?Discover the answer in Mother Mort's Carnival of Souls - the book is Jane's story, and the cards are yours! What fate will be revealed? Short story which accompanies a deck of 32 oracle cards.

Marie, I'm a big fan of the Alien franchise. I love the first two movies. Ellen Ripley is the best final girl. Sigourney Weaver is my idol.

Marie, Thank you for your final girl video. You do a great job. I Know What You Did Last Summer and The Texas chainsaw massacre are good choices. Your right about the originals. You can't mess with the first movie. Alice was a good final girl. In Friday the 13th. Cabin In The Woods is one of my favorite horror comedy. I love Halloween 1978. I agree about The Evil Dead. I like the remake and the original both. I like your list. These are good movies. I like the girl in Your Next! Great channel. 😊

If Coppola was going to shoehorn in a Dracula/Mina romance he could have at least had the decency not to call it *Bram Stoker's* Dracula, because it wasn't. You don't throw in such a massive plot change and act like you're being faithful to the source material. It's like performing Swan Lake and billing it as the Superbowl because they're all wearing football jerseys and the dancers pass around a pigskin.

I've just read "The turn of the screw" for the first time. I interpreted it as an insight into the mind of a woman going mad. That made the most sense to me. I think the ghosts was in her imagination. But I believe the beauty of the book is that nobody is ever 100% sure that they're right.

I agree with you, Bram Stoker's Dracula is my favorite adaptation! I absolutely adore the addition of the Dracula/Mina love story and I think it brings much needed conflict and a very compelling love triangle to the England portion of the story which can at times be a bit of a slog. Gary Oldman is forever my favorite Dracula although I do love Bela Lugosi too!

I am so glad you loved it. I also loved this book so much and I have been searching for a book that is similar to it, as you described slasher with a hint of dark humor. I was wondering does anyone have any similar books that you would recommend, preferably slashers and not supernatural.

I just watched the Love Witch and I just loved the way they filmed it. Horror movies from that time period are my favorites. I love how they do the effects, camera work, acting all of it. So from the driving scene, I was instantly sold and so ready. I'm a big big fan of 60s/70s media and art styles, so this was a perfect modern movie for me. Great review on it!

I thought the movie was terrible. I shut it off after 20 minutes. Bad acting, strong feminism, overbearing narcissistic attitudes. If the lead actress showed nudity in the first sex scene, it would have drawn you more into believing her character .. that no man could withstand or survive her sexuality. Initially the movie reminded me of "Under the Skin", where in both movies a beautiful, detached, other worldly woman seeks out males as objects to solely suit their purpose with tragic results.

It should be called Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula. Yes, it's the second closest adaptation in terms of faithfulness, but it also has an equal amount of big changes. I love most of the adaptations and the original book. There's always going to be changes and I hope a future adaptation of the book will remain relatively faithful while also having unique take besides a Dracula & Mina or Lucy. 😀

One major difference I didn’t care for was how Merricat was portrayed. In the book she was bolder and had psychopathic tendencies. In the movie she was a lot more timid and good natured. The ending in the movie feels like she was just protecting her sister but in the book she seems like a surprise villain who you regret cheering for.

I liked the 1977 version with actor Louis Jordan as Dracula. This adaptation, despite its low budget and limited effects, is a good film. The film offers us a charming Count Dracula, who beneath his politeness, is a threat. The sarcasm and cynicism of the character played by Louis Jordan made him the best Dracula. The film avoids many romantic daydreams and shows a manipulative and threatening Dracula. He would be like the sirens who lure sailors with their beautiful song straight to their death. He may be handsome and seductive, but he is dangerous. It's his charm that makes him attractive that makes him so deadly. The film doesn't have the nonsense of showing that the heroine with the power of love will change the antagonist and the power of love regenerates. Dracula is the one who manipulates and he remains the same villain until the end. The merits of the 1992 film are aesthetic. They try to offer a kind of Greek tragedy, in which Dracula is a tragic hero. But he's just a murderous psychopath who sought the path of evil. Dracula may be a bit of Jeckyll and Hyde, he has a good side towards Mina and a perverse side towards the rest of humanity, this good side for Mina does not negate the fact that he is the villain. His evils make him impossible to redeem. The character, with his romantic tone, who crosses oceans to find an ordinary girl, seems more like the public's desire to find someone who can take him away from his ordinary, boring life. And he has people who go down that path and end up being manipulated by dangerous people. The author of the book doesn't want to go on romantic outbursts, he and his wife are middle class people who had to work hard to have a dignified life. They are more rational and realistic. And that is Mina and Jonathan's type of relationship. This was the prototype for the protagonists’ wedding.

I enjoyed the book and the original black and white film over the Netflix series. Netflix relied too much on cheap jumpscares and totally removed the best element and shoehorned the people as a family. Even the 90's movie seemed more in tune with the original book and that was one of the worst adaptations, lol. I will say this for the Netflix movies, at least they had the same names as the original characters, lol.
