Modding Assetto Corsa vs rFactor 2
In the previous episode, the first of this series, we narrowed down our options for simulating my car down to Assetto Corsa and rFactor 2. In this second episode we take a deeper look at both to try to make a final decision about which will be most appropriate for my specific needs.
How to Simulate a Racing Car follows the conversion of the FVT05 Formula Vee into a racing sim. This car was originally built for the Australian Formula Vee racing series, and it competed successfully in the 2017 New South Wales State and Club championships. The introduction to that series can be found at ua-cam.com/video/4gzjcimjfTQ/v-deo.html.

JKF Aero (jkfaero.com/) who assisted on the design of the bodywork and undertray.

This is a race report for round 2 of the NSW Formula Vee Club Championship which took place on the 21st of October 2017 at Wakefield Park Raceway. Finally, we get to building the fibreglass undertray which has been featured in almost all of my rendered content but noticably absent from the car as it's raced this year. Now though, we get to take a closer look at how it was built. How to Build a Racing Car follows the design and construction of the FVT05, a car built for the Australian Formula Vee racing series. This is a race report for round 7 of the NSW Formula Vee State Championship which took place on the 16th and 17th of September 2017 at Sydney Motorsport Park. My issues with the car didn't end at the last round unfortunately, with a suspension component breaking during qualifying and another braking issue during the final race. I'd thought I was on top of it but I guess not! Still, overall a po...

This is a race report for round 6 of the NSW Formula Vee State Championship which took place on the 12th and 13th of August 2017 at Wakefield Park Raceway. Getting into Motorsport: A brief guide
Переглядів 110 тис.7 років тому
This is a quick guide to getting into motorsport which I put together to give people a realistic idea about whether it's something they can get involved in. It's easy to look at something like Formula 1 or the WEC and think it's unattainable but club level motorsport is certainly possible to get involved in if you're willing to put in the time and effort required. I also upgraded to a 360 degree camera which allows for some interesting footage. The sound wasn'...
Tyre Buffing
Переглядів 30 тис.7 років тому
The tyres we run in Formula Vee have quite a deep tread and so it's quite common to have them buffed. Rather than pay for each set to be buffed, we decided to have a go and see whether we could build a rig to buff them ourselves, then set about buffing a set of tyres. I cant believe I am just now discovering this channel! You guys do some awesome stuff, I am designing a fuel tank for a car where we have had baffling issues. The design ive been thinking of is very very similar to yours. I was curious about any updates on the performance especially for the sump area for your pickup tube as mine runs an external pump as well and I am looking to build a sump just like that!

Your videos are really really interesting, I’m currently studying vehicle engineering with a focus on the ICE and my biggest concern is that I know when I’ll finish the studies that I probably won’t be able to do a single thing or most things you’ve done in this series which is a big problem. I’ve bought some books on vehicle dynamics and I’m planning to have a look at them by myself but without some practical examples it’ll probably be tough.

a friend of mine told me to not use Bondo fiberglass resin to strengthen and waterproof paper-backed foamcore because it would "melt" it. Is there any truth to that? I wanted to make an undertray for the rear area of my Honda Civic

I think a HANS is useless and not worth the price at that level. A neck brace is largely enough. Remember, in the 80s turbo era and during the wing cars era in F1, racing drivers had nothing around their neck but miles and training for some of them.

In terms of getting started on design, I am trying to hunt down some CAD for the stock VW parts (engine, front suspension, brakes, steering assembly). At the end, you say that testing at the track is not as cost effective. I disagree. Academic calcutions only need one error to render them valueless whereas actual real world testing is where every dynamic is present and correct. It's also a lot more fun at the track than on a spreadsheet!
