Mate - congratulations! Have really enjoyed watching the build and subsequent racing footage. Fascinating about the physical demands placed on drivers in-race - had never really thought about it before. Great work; You'll be progressing up the field in no time :) Best of luck for the next race!
Great to hear. I'm hoping to get the aero together this year, I've got a rear suspension upgrade coming along and as long as it improves the cars balance to a point where I'm happy, I'll be able to switch over to these other jobs.
Do you have any clue how much difference the aero kit is going to make? I wonder because I haven't seen any other formula vee car here with such an aero kit on it. Really looking forward to seeing the car with the aero package finished
At 180 kph the CFD shows it produces close to 200kg of downforce over the standard bodywork. The lapsim showed this would improve laptimes by around 1.5 seconds (around this track) so it would be worth the effort. Most other Formula Vee builders don't have access to Aero professionals such as I had with JKF Aero. He did a huge amount of work to design the tray. He has a UA-cam channel, Kyle Engineers which you should check out.
Nice! I had never thought that far about physical activity while racing, and much less seen such detailed heart rate monitoring and comparison with MTB! Really interesting video!
+coscorrodrift yes I found it fascinating, I knew it was tough but my heart rate was much higher than I expected, close to my limit. It's just as high at Sydney motorsport park in fact, which surprised me because it's a less aggressive track to drive. Certainly a very physical sport.
I was noticing the camber and/or caster on your front tires and they seem to be opposite of what they should be. When you turn right the top part of the wheel seems to move left, which is counter-intuitive due to how the suspension should be set up to counter act the g-forces of going around a corner and the differential of the ride hight between the left and right tires. I really like your videos, these racing videos are awesome and feel more real than me playing gt6.
Not a huge amount I can do about the camber/caster, there's an adjuster on one of the ball joints but it only gives limited adjustability. Good to hear you enjoy the videos and that they convey what's going on so well, thanks. I'm hoping to find a way to increase the cameras visibility in future, I found it extremely limiting in this video particularly as so much of the action is missed, hence the little graphics. Hopefully things only get better.
If you're looking for an awesome first person view, there are people who vlog on motorcycles (aka motovlogers) who put GoPro's on their helmets. There are the side mounts, the chin mounts, the top of the head mount, and then there is the rare forehead mount. My favorite motovlogers are Do It With Dan, Motonosity, and WALTERRIFIC. If you want to check out their riggs, I do believe they have videos on how they set up their rigs.
The CAMS rules prevent us from attaching helmet cameras unfortunately - though I've seen others do it on occasion. It's considered a modification of the helmet and it would require re-certification if we were to do it. I reckon the first helmet manufacturer to include a camera in a certified helmet will make an absolute mint off it. It's too bad as it is by far my favorite angle.
Can you attach it to the visor? technically it's not helmet. I'm quite happy with my Replay XD Prime X, check my YT channel for onboard video of the ZX10R.
Well that's a quick bike. I actually did a drag race in the Stinger Formula Vee, there was more to it than I expected. I'd consider the visor an integral part of the helmet and I've no doubt the scrutineers would too. A properly integrated solution would be best and safest.
Thanks for the heart rate and force analysis/description!

Thanks. It's not obvious from the outside why it's so physical but it certainly requires a decent level of fitness.
Wow, that heart rate comparison infogram at the end is above and beyond
Very cool! Love the heart rate stuff. How long until the aero kit?

Found you via his channel, really enjoy his buggy build too. Sounds like you're going to have one of the fastest cars of the pack?
I'm sure it could be. It needs some development but I do believe it's got potential.
That's so awesome. I'm really loving your channel. When I leave University I want to do something like this.
Beautiful landspace!

Great race!
really nice bunch of races, these cars look tough to drive! u are battling the steering for traction
Loved It! keep it coming.
Best matt
Keep this up! Awesome content :)
