Can I contact you about the RR CirKits Signalman install. I have 11 in place on my BNSF Montana Division and had one fail. Problems with Decoder Pro.
@@bnsfmtdivision sure! If you have Facebook look up my profile, Louis D’Rose, or send an email to Louis.dirosso@gmail.com
Just discovered this channel. Do you know your helix radius?
@@dafrog55 yes, the Benchwork is roughly 5.5ft wide, and the helix is around a 31.5in outside radius
@ConrailBostonLineHOLayout thanks for the response! My current design for a helix is very close to yours so this bodes well. I'm planning SP in 1995, so same equipment, grades and profile and this makes me feel good being able to learn from you.
@@dafrog55 absolutely. The only trouble I have is on real long trains, usually 30+ cars, and usually only if intermodal. I power all my trains with 3 engines and it’s fine. Most trains could honestly move with 2 locos, but it’s a mountain railroad!
Excellent video. I have a Mac Min that I use in two locations and have a monitor in both: ASUS VZ239HE 23 Inch, and sensibly priced: c£120, in the UK.
Very nice layout 👍. I model the Harrisburg Division of Conrail, Penn Central & Amtrak in the 70s & 80s in N-scale.
@@chrisbarr1359 awesome! Sitting at the Bridgeview Bed and Breakfast currently and watching Rockville Bridge
Really nice layout your building 👍🏽…
@@georgiasunbelt I appreciate it
Great progress! Well done
@@robertbraeuner2031 thank you!
Well done. You have a very interesting layout
@@hoscalemodeltrains1221 thank you
Thank you for featuring your section diagrams. That's a good idea and something I need to add, if for no other reason than to start having names for different tracks and directions.
Definitely! I plan to do a video shortly showcasing my CTC system which will show more of these panels. The panels are super easy to make. I just draw up the panel on JMRI panelpro, take a screen shot and print it out, then cover it in adhesive laminate plastic I found on Amazon.
Woohoo! We have missed you man. Great update! Tablets is a great touch sort of speak lol they work well and I've used them for op sessions. Makes it a lot easier to operate
Thank you! The tablets are so clutch. Makes operations much easier and a lot less work than building control panels. Thanks for the support!
Great video thanks, I will use to match ESU and Soundtraxx. Have you done that before? In the video you mentioned you only have ESU.
@@just4funTrains yes, works with all brand decoders!
Really nice job..
I am new to JMRI. I have an NCE Power ProR setup I'd like to use to speed match my locos. I have viewed this video many times and I think it is how I'd like to do my locos. I need to know how you set up your "master"? Did you use the basic 3-point speed curve to establish the start, mid, and high voltages/speeds you wanted and then use the speed table to set up all other locos?
Hello! My master just happened to be set the way I liked it. My master is an atlas C40-8W with ESU Loksound. I’m not sure if I made any changes to it prior to deciding on it!
Thanks for the reply. I've tried a number of speed matching methods and, I have to say, yours is the best I've found. Thanks so much for posting it.
@@dougkathydavies3024 I appreciate that! Most of these videos I posted figuring some where, some how, someone else will be in my shoes and wish a guy like me posted a video showing how!! Enjoy!
Looks like this has been changed in JMRI? Now it accepts unlit?
Yes! This was an update JMRI included maybe a year or two back. When I started, I had to use CSX masts because they had the option for unlit. Now after the update I moved everything to the BNSF aspects because they are much smaller and cleaner on the panel… and because I built and programmed my own logix I use whatever BNSF aspect lines up with the Conrail aspect I need
Great Video. Really helped me out. I am replacing NCE light-its with Signal man units. Then my friend (very large layout) will probably use them also.
Thank you! Great video! Is there any way to auto populate that value instead of having to enter manually the first time? I have a staging yard that is hard to see and I would like to know which engine is on which track, before, I run the train….. Obviously the DCC “network” has that information (from the decoder that is) I wonder how you can pull it out in JMRI without telling it.
I’m sure if you start fooling around with JMRI there is a way… I’m pretty sure in dispatcher you can create all sorts of stuff like that. I haven’t even got started on that whole side of JMRI - right now I’m still working through the hardware side of things
Who weathers your diesels?
Me!
Nicely done !
Thanks!
Nice project, what brand of carpet tape did you use? Great work.
Not sure, just whatever my local Ace hardware had. It was $12 for a nice fat roll
Nice work. They look great
Thanks Dave!
0:55 where did you get that northfolk southern high hood diesel electric?
3218 is an Athearn RTR that I added all the LEDs to. 3278 is a Kato that has a Canon cab and high hood conversion, plus the LEDs
Nice work on the backdrop installation. Where did you purchase your backdrops? I need to add some to my layout soon. - Brian
I bought these on eBay from seller AmandaJane. The seller is in the UK. The shipping on the first one is a bit steep but if you buy a few it evens out, and the price is definitely right
@@ConrailBostonLineHOLayout Thanks for the info - I believe I have seen these on eBay, then.
@@brian102256Amanda Jane is the eBay sellers name. I like these, very simple and relatively inexpensive compared to more commercial options!
@@ConrailBostonLineHOLayout yep, that's the one!
Good job ...... VERY good job. Commentary was spot-omn as well.... keep up the good work
Thanks! Your comment makes me sound much better than I actually am LOL
Nice work and weathering. Love the SP unit !
Thank you very much!
cool layout
Great looking engines.
I think so too!
You're correct on it being the pioneer valley rr in westfield at cp108
Brain fart!
Excellent weathering on the GP 40-2. Layout is really looking nice.
Thank you!
Looks awesome Lou marry Christmas to your family I been working my layout I getting done and besides that life been getting in the way
Thanks Taylor, merry Christmas to you! Life certainly does get in the way!!! I had this exact talk with Dave Abeles (Onendaga Cutoff) and I asked him how he managed to get as far as he has on his STUNNING layout, all while working full time, raising 3 kids, life etc. and he told me… every day, just do something. Even if it’s just planting a bush. Great advice from a great man. I was beginning to get discouraged because my time to model is so limited, but it really put things in perspective!!! Plus, I’ve learned to enjoy my time running trains with the kids, even though secretly I wish I was “making progress.”
@@ConrailBostonLineHOLayout I don't blame u I been there to my girlfriend alshea we celebrate 10 months someday be married we will have a family my layout my club take time
Excellent Sir ! In case you are curious, Five CR GP40-2's (3275 - 3279) came from the Reading RR. All the others (3280-3403) were ordered brand new and received in 1977-1978 by Conrail. The prototype for the one you have (3293) had that style of classification marker lights. Good stuff ! Brings back tremendous memories. I look forward to more of your layout videos. Merry Christmas and be well, Vincent Zablocki
Right, I knew a few came from the Reading with the small tanks and drip strips on the roof… I had a brain fart and almost said PC but remembered those were straight 40s. I didn’t realize these early CR 40-2 lacked the markers, ground lights etc until I started the model!
Great job with you helpers
Thanks 👍
Looking great!!!
Thanks!!
👍🤠👍
I wasn't aware the Housatonic crossed the Boston Line at CP107, doesn't it just run south from Pittsfield?
You are correct! It’s the Pioneer valley that crossed the diamonds. Duh!
Just curious who sings that song at the beginning of this video?
The Gas Light Anthem
Good to see you back
Really nice scene your developing 👍🏽
Glad you like it!
You seem to be living the motto "Model Railroading is FUN". Looks great!
Interesting take. I grew up there and used to take a day off every now and then and railfan anywhere from Westfield to Palmer. My dad worked at Lane quarry in Westfield so I would get rides on the Westfield local and get tours of West Springfield yard. I was lucky enough to go up in the yard tower in West Springfield.
Very cool! All memories that unfortunately the next generation of rail fans won’t get to experience!
@@ConrailBostonLineHOLayoutI was a kid when Conrail took over. I remember Penn Central going through Huntington with miserable looking power.
Do you have any of the old yard Housatonic uses modeled?
Yes, I have a small 5 track yard in Pittsfield. You can see it in my “Pittsfield local” video! Thanks
My railroad interchanges in Pittsfield although off my modeled portion.
Tedious but it’s worth it. Looking good. Can’t wIt for part 2
Thanks brother!
Those conrail engines are sweet.
Thanks Mark!
Having a good chuckle right now. Wish I could be a fly on the wall when you take finished basement space for your expansion. We all dream, but our wives usually see things just a little differently. Layout looks great!
You said it! Wifey doesn’t bust my chops much when it comes to the hobby… maybe I’ll start punching holes and building bench work and see if she notices??
Looks like you can move the door to the bathroom to the short wall.. that will give you the whole corner of the kids area...
So I actually thought about this… my current plan is to leave 2.5ft isle to access door. I’m not sure moving the door is worth gaining 2.5ft, especially if you consider you can walk around the end of the layout in that 2.5ft isle VS the layout going straight to the wall and losing access there. I plan to have Palmer interchange yard wrap around there like it does at the current end of the layout, and I would love to gain the access to the yard instead of working it from the current isle, if that makes sense!
The cost of an expansion will be 1 mink coat, 2 diamond rings, and a new Porsche.
And a 2nd mortgage LOL
Looking good Louie!
Thx Johnny!
