African architecture and methods have been devalued because they're African. Simple. Giving credit to us for anything isn't an option. And, because Africans built structures WITH the earth and ecological system. That's not a good business model for capitalism, which requires corporations to build things for you to consume. Then they fail, and you buy more.

4:36, so what do you then? How about stop robbing each other? How about stop killing each other? How about stop making babies you can't afford to feed? How about building up the country instead of fleeing from it? You can't get rid of white people, no matter how hard you try, so you might as well try those.

Lady, this is absolutely instructive!! I truly resonate with this position and this exhortation of our people to reach back and learn how rich we are so that we launch ourselves with our own expression of class and quality... And with confidence!! Ahsante sana kwa kutukumbusha vile tuko na utu wa maana sana!!! We have a valuable heritage!!!

When we was traveling through Nigeria, we came across a village that had built its mosque out of mud and clay right by the river. They told us that it would be destroyed twice a year when the river flooded. When we asked them why they would intentionally build something that wasn't meant to last, they said: “So that the village can repair and rebuild it together.” I believe that it is this sense of community that is slowly being lost not only among Africans but among people in general. We are no longer proud of our community, are way to selfish and our architecture, especially brutalism, is suffering as a result.

The european dominated the whole Afrika right after domesticating bullet manufacturing from Chinese! why did Roman Empire not conquered Africa, while they were mighty in powers and they stayed there for so long? In deed, they waited for the Islam to invade northern Africa, before they realize that they can benefit from the rooting too!!!! but the game changer was the gun powder innovation.

After the Third Punic War in 140 B.C. Rome had conquered northern Africa along the coast and held it for 500 years. Why didn't they invade further? Mostly due to the Sahara Desert. While the north was extremely fertile, they did not see the point in continuing into the desert and taking what they viewed as unsustainable land. Also malaria wasn't very fun.

Many people in Western world do not look up to th UN etc. They ate. merely tolerated. What people should do more is asking people. You get probably two kind of answers. Maybe three. The polite advertisement, that is mindlessly recite what everyone hears. The honest brutal analysis, or the we don’t know what to do about it, just ignore them variant. There’s too much talk in this world and so little listening. Especially non verbal behaviors.

  • @helengrives1546

The irony is that the trsditional living is exported to the outside world as luxery resorts. Traditional can blend with modernity. Smart manipulators tell you thst land is nothing. I say land is all. The best land is that with minimal infrastructure of the bad kind. Only laid down to extract money. If you take a long term view; you can create garden cities that are both tourism friendly and traditional respectful. But then you need architects who really want to experiment, not just copy ugliness from somewhere foreign. Just because you can, and you don’t want to use your creative brains.

Actually we have mud houses in the Netherlands, Limburg region. I love these traditional buildings. I always imagine someone working hard to build it. They are very expensive and protected. Traditional houding is also better for climate and spread accross the landscape, avoids the drawbacks of overcrowded cities.

Most , if not all of african infrastructures were taken and destroyed by white monsters, i also ask myself, if karma exists, why not for them?, they do not receive it so nobody should, they were wicked before and are still wicked and still be wicked in the future, yet nothing happens to them, their economies are doing great

  • @claymarzobestgoofy

10:30 I think it is okay to understand that some building practices are more developed as a result of history. European countries adopted Greek and Roman architecture styles and methods after being invaded by the Romans. If you look at germanic or britanic architecture before the Roman empire it was not very impressive (on average). But centuries later they embraced the conquerors style and most buildings took a classic (Roman) appearance. It is fine to grow and absorb different things. I do think African architecture can be beautiful and inspiring yet it is also true that a vast amount of technical advancements already exist and it's worth using them all the while continuing your own architectural traditions. Great video and message though, but I think it's not always justified to think everything Europeans want or do is malicious, especially nowadays. Peace :)

This is a important topic that’s been overlooked but just to approach the subject of “ Modern “ housing they look at it from the perspective of access to water and electricity within the home flooring very dirt floors I look at it the same but a step future as to stability from invasion and land structure regardless of industry But if you could look at it from one more aspect as to symbolism what do those designs mean? Yes infusion of cultural art and design into the door’s windows flooring walls curtains ceiling is amazing but what do they mean So that the story of the history and reason as to our use is not convoluted

The erasure of high African art and culture for the benefit of a blood-thirsty western elite (which isn't the same as the common western folk) is abominable. Without it, the atrocities of the past could never have been committed. The world needs the understanding of the inheritance of its ancient African roots back.

Gurrrl, I don't know where you come from in Africa, but as an old chap; I could die comfortable that common sense is now beginning to be ventilated by fellow Africans! When you spoke of making our own things based on our cultures, I was sold. How absolutely stupid to think we can build the West into our landscapes? Imagine if we, humbly, modernized our traditional methods and designs for building; environmental construction, and more? How much new employment, and ways of matching up with our brothers and sisters around the world? Please keep waking our slumbering minds up. Thank you.

Regionalism is a very good thing in architecture. I guess I was searching for a more rigorous analysis of African Architecture as inspiration. There are a few images but I would like to learn more about how they were made, how they are used, how culture affects the expression of the architecture etc. As an example Dami Lee Arch does a great job at explaining Japanese architecture from a cultural perspective. And David Adjaye has a very inspiring documentary about architecture in Morocco.

It is scary how quick it takes to erase years and years of history and culture all the blink of an eye. Once we were colonized, i think the children who saw just how their parents were tortured and robbed by the white supremacist mentally bowed down to their power and forced to abandoned their parents ways of living and conditioned to be like the white man an adore all his ways. Not gona go into details but good news is Esau's agenda is at an end as 400 years have passed and the house of Jacob will rise again
