Armstrong A Wing XPS Review | Poseidon Watersports
hello beachstart is possible with the BSC 1120 ?
This wing is slick! Would be curious to see how the Ozone Fusion does. That would be the next logical progression in wings for me
My compare the XPS to the V1 and V2 Armstrong wings. I have a 5.5 V2 and a XPS 5.3. The handles are sooo good and stiff now. You have so much immediate control of the wing. The frame is so stiff you can make tiny adjust. And the shape of the air foil is sooo good going upwind. I just took out my V2 yesterday and every time I tried to go upwind aggressively, it would lose power. The XPS just keeps going and going. The V2 has more low end power but I’d attribute that to it bagging out and flexing. You can run your XPS at a lower pressure and without battens to add more curve and shape to get more power. But at 7PSI with proper wind, the XPS is a dream. My buddy switched to a DuoTone and wishes he kept his XPS I bought from home.
So do I understand correctly that for cruisy winging if you want a bit more low end / easier take off you should go for the 140, and if you only ride properly powered up at full speed wanting full control while pushing hard you should get the 141w? But that, when ridden in their sweet spot range, both turn equally well and with nice backfoot pressure?
Wow, that looks like fun. Cold but fun lol 👍
Lots of fun. Wear the right gear and it's all good
Great review and definitely cleared up some questions, thanks 🙏🏾
Welcome to call or take one for a spin anytime Frano
@ thanks mate, currently offshore heading to Antigua but will be back in Feb for a fortnight, catch up then
Prone and for winging , sounds like the perfect board
On a wave its pretty special. Prone it's the nuts, wing it's quite niche as all the back foot pressure isn't ideal for blasting back out and driving through tacks/gybes, it's a dedicated wave shredder!
Awesome video! If I could share any tips: If you are new to prone foiling, the board is key. You want a board that’s longer and wider and has stability. It will give you the stable platform you need to find your backed and get in the foil. A slower and more stable foil is also preferred. Don’t be afraid to start with used gear. You’re gonna learn quickly and grow out of it. But it’s often gear you need to form fundamentals and then you’ll know what to get.
Wau so inspiratatt…..
super helpful - thanks!
Very thorough.
Hi Chris...I have small / med sized hands...any issues with that flatter wider handle on the XPS?
So good mate!!
compared to the nova pro ? and the duotone unit ? i am looking for a wing with boom 😉
I have the sk8 and egale. But if i just Want to practice tacks ? Will the Steven seas 1100 be a choice ? Again love your reviews 😅
could you do a review on the v4 f-one rocket?
Love your reviews. How would you compare the F-One Swing v4 against the Ozone Flow? You were pretty enthousiastic about the Ozone, also for use in wave and freeride.
Can attest these are great kites to improve on. Their speedy relaunch and durability are especially useful as they give you more time riding after you inevitably crash practising tricks etc.
Maybe a dumb question, but would you rather run something like a 48L FG wing board or a 55L midlength? I know I could prone a ML. I might be able to wing it. I know I could wing a FG. I might be able to prone foil it.
Not dumb, it's a tough call as both are great boards. The ML takes off super easy and rides lively. You can do both sports well in all sorts of conditions on them. But being a jack of all trades it has compromise - the narrowness is very tippy and can be tricky. And the increased length means the nose can catch when turning or on a pitchy prone take off. Also the tail being long restricts hard turning in more critical sections. The smaller size FG boards is a more dedicated performance board, they handle touch downs very well and are very forgiving, they inspire confidence to push your riding harder in extreme condtions. However they don't take off as easy, and the 48L is possibly a bit too wide to paddle well for prone. For me - I'd always choose to wing the FG wing, over the the ML, but in reality I end up using the ML more as it's a guaranteed session. For prone again to ride a dedicated shape, but I really enjoy the ML for ease. I wouldn't choose that size FG for prone. Hope that helps
@@poseidonwatersportsukI tried a 50L FG and it’s been impossible every time. Just not enough wind when I’ve taken it. I’m kea I g towards a 55 or 65 ML I think. Thanks!
Thanks. It is very informative and helpful
Thanks for watching, glad it’s helpful 🤙
What harness lines do you use this wing? I bought a 3.5 and find the attachment points very close and different from other wings I am used too.
Yes the stock fittings are close together, but I find them very well positioned and balanced. Because they are narrow I’d recommend a PU coated rope harness line to help keep the loop open and easy to hook into. Because of the design you could even make your own. Alternatively you could attach a line into both handles using a harness line with webbing straps
Very nice test! Can you tell me the volume of your midlenght used during the test and your wheight? I've a 75 ML FG paired with a Sk8 950 and I'm 170 lbs. In light wind conditions (10/15 kn) do you think the 900 x could be a good option for me? or its better the 900x? Thanks
Hi, thanks for watching. I was on the 55L ML and weigh around 80kg. The eagle x is a weapon for speed and would be fun for blasting in light wind, don’t under estimate the speed it needs to work and the high stall speed though. 15kn on the 900 would be fun, 10 knots could be frustrating. If you want ease in low wind and dont mind compromising some speed - a big eagle could be wise choice. If you are happy to loose some low wind days a 900 eagle x will make you smile
How is flagging etc vs fone Swing?
They are both great flagged out. The swing is a dedicated wave wing so behaves impeccably flagged. The flow behaves very well flagged and due to it's versatility has a wider wind range of use (wind strength and riding style). Neither would disappoint. If you ride different styles in different conditions or run a minimal quiver I'd recommend the flow. If all you care about is forgetting about the wing whilst on the wave, I'd point towards the swing. The handles are a deciding factor for some people
@poseidonwatersportsuk Thanks ❤️
Epic guys what a froth fest!!!

Epic edit guys! Great few weeks to remember!
Yeowww, so much fun, and so good watching back the clips of you shredding
Many vendors are providing handle/boom options for their wings. Smart move!
Heya!! I am looking for a foil for low wind winging in gusty inland lakes (8-12 kts). What would you think comparing this to the seven seas series?
Great review, as your others...!!! I came from Gravity 1800 to Phantom 1280, wingfoiling, and think about adding a 7Seas 1100 as next step, with 70 kg, and favouring mediterranean swell riding with some easy carving and pumping... Do you think the 7Seas 1100 makes sense, or do you see alternative fits, maybe Phantom S 940 or Sk8...? And if 7Seas, which tail would you recommend for the intended use and regarding a good high end...?
Thanks for watching. Nice foils. The seven seas will feel like a nice step up from your phantom as it's slimmer section allow it to ride faster and carry a better glide. I would say that foil tech has developed fast and you'd probably find the 1100 has a similar lift to your your 1280, so i'd almost look at it as a replacement instead of an addition. The DW tail will give the most efficient pump and glide, 170 for ease, 145 for better top end. If you want a looser roll check out the "W" carving tails - the 161 would go with the 1100 really nicely. If you wanted to stretch yourself a little further (keeping the 1280) i'd look at the sk8 or eagle. both will ride even faster and more lively. the 990 eagle would be a super fun addition and you'd love it's speed and glide, it has a great range. Or if you want loosness - the sk8 in 1050 would be a nice next step. We've recently put out a couple of overview vids on the f-one front wings and tails - if you havn't seen check them out and welcome to give us a shout anytime
@poseidonwatersportsuk Thanks a lot for your comment...! I will see how my feeling of control will develop by using the 1280 Phantom, and then probably decide for 7 Seas or Eagle... I also appreciate your comment about the tail options...!
Great video thanks!
Thanks, hope it’s helpful
How would you compare the eagle x to the Code R series?
ooh, good call. I havn't spent enough time on the Code R to give a fully fair response. Initial feeling is that the code-R lifts easier and has a more forgiving range, the Eagle X has more top end speed and rides more aggressive. Will come back to you after spending more time on the R-series
Thanks appreciate it
Thanks for the review. I only prone and would say I am beginner / intermediate - just starting to link waves. Surfed for 35 yrs but only started foiling 12 months ago. Weight is 87kg. Am considering the 45L but a bit concerned about the thickness and how narrow they are? Would you recommend if you are only interested in prone?
Thanks for watching. I feel it's an amazing prone board and gets you paddling into much fatter lumps and for sure increases sessions. I'll always want one in the quiver, but i do still choose a shorter, more traditional shape when the wave quality is good or I'd want to push harder turns. It's a good 2nd board - which you'll use a lot. size wise - at 17" wide the 45L is very narrow and take off not so easy. With your experience you would adapt, but I'd only recommend the smaller 2 sizes for intermediate-advanced riders, where as the 18" wide 55 more user friendly for most levels
beautiful wing, beautiful location and wow what a great review, will jump straight from V2 to V4 as I heard V3 is not so great.
thanks for watching, the v3 is still a good wing, it's just very stiff and weighty on the tips so it needs a different technique and likes to be ridden hard. For all-round versatility it's hard to fault the v4 strike for anything
Love the content. Super helpful. Are you planning on doing any board reviews or comparisons? Like the KT Ginxu 2 or F one Rocket mid length? Thanks!
Thanks for watching. Always keen to do more reviews, comparisons between brands can be more tricky but definitely on the agenda. Like and share, access to kit and support from brands makes it easier for us for do them 🤙
hi, where's this spot? Nice surf, looks cool
Newquay, Cornwall, UK. Theres some glory spots round here
Epic guide guys - really helped me out and answered a whole bunch of questions!
awesome, thanks for watching, glad it helped, enjoy the prone journey
This is great 🤙🤙. Can you do the same with some other foil brands. Cheers.
Always keen. Like and share, the more the brands support these the easier it is me us to do them 🤙
It is easy to jump with ? or it needs more technique (compared to Evo or Dice Duotone) thank you
Easier than the previous model enduros - it’s more open - like the evo, so less whip is required to the send. It probably sits between the evo and dice in terms of easy jumping. Overall more versatile than both, but less specific than the evo for sending
Chris is time I'm searching confirmation on this point, in the wave setting the new Enduro V5 sits further forward in the wind window right? this lead or not to better upwind ability and less likely to suffer gusts?
Yes, it tightens the front/centre of the bridal so makes it pinch upwind and turn more pivotal around the centre strut. Not sure its more stable or better in gusty winds in this setting, but you definitely notice it creates less power through its turn and behaves smoother
@@poseidonwatersportsuk Thank you Chris! yes I was supposing that a more farther forward position of the kite in the wind window could make it less exposed under a gust, in any case I have recently tried a V5 13m and it's very stable under gusts probably mostly thanks to the 16 points bridles!
Excellent review thanks!
Thanks for watching!
