Challenging flight! Flying the TBM 960 from Richland, Washington to Bend, Oregon!
Join me on a thrilling flight in the TBM 960 as I navigate from Richland, Washington (KRLD) to Redmond, Oregon (KRDM) through dense wildfire smoke!
In this video, I take off VFR into challenging conditions, battling low visibility and moderate turbulence. You'll experience the "fun" of piloting through smoke-filled skies, and see how I adapt to the ever-changing environment while trying to locate the airport.
Watch as I share insights on flying in less-than-ideal conditions, and enjoy the breathtaking views (when we can see them!) on this unforgettable journey.

    Hi. Just waited to see if you made the comment about why you Tap the Breaks after take off, and what does that intail. That was an awesome landing. Why would you want to fly somewhere where there is heaps of snow and ice. Cheers from Down under.

    • @mkleczynski
      @mkleczynski 5 днів тому

      Tapping the brakes stops the wheels from rotating and possibly causing damage in the underbelly.

      @ I managed to nut that out. 😂 and I think it is a vital part of an after take off check list , especially when you hear them say tap breaks, gear up. you do not hear many pilots say or do for their You tube Videos. Thank you so much for your reply. I have a Question. L.A. To Australia via the Pacific in a Turbo prop. Is it possible. 🙏👍

    love your videos one question why did you choose a TBM over something like a Honda Jet or Citation ? lastly could you make a Q&A live video

    • @mkleczynski
      @mkleczynski 7 днів тому

      Thanks! I like the TBM because it goes close to jet speeds, jet altitudes, and is extremely fuel efficient. Also the familiarity with avionics coming out of a Cirrus.

    Encouragment alert!! My dude... making and editing videos isn't the most glamorous, but I sure hope you're getting out there and flying. We love to see your vids, but I also think it's great that you've followed a passion after the hard work you've put in to be able to do it. I'm an IT guy that didn't get as far as you and only dream of doing what you're doing. (Private with 200 hours and not enough free time to enjoy it). Keep the wind behind you and the rubber side down. You're crushin it!!

    I think automation increases pilot work load with too much information, the old steam gauges are safer and have been proven to have a lower accident rate, and are far cheaper.

  • @Themheals
    @Themheals 2 місяці тому

    This is a childs plane. It requires no skill to fly. All the information is fed to the pilot who doesnt need to know anything. When the computers fail they will become a passenger. Im not impressed.

    • @mkleczynski
      @mkleczynski 2 місяці тому

      Which computer?

    • @Themheals
      @Themheals 2 місяці тому

      @@mkleczynski The Garmin is a display for computed information from sensors. The issue is that as you get better at reading data displayed this way you become a worse pilot when it all goes away. The GPS is a computed time signal from space. There is all sorts of computation being done for you. The TAS you see on the PFD is computed for you. You are becoming a shit pilot if you arent already one, if ever you werent one from the get go. Try not to get killed.

    • @mkleczynski
      @mkleczynski 2 місяці тому

      Bold to assume that a pilot is bad based on the aircraft they’re operating. I learned on gauges and paper charts and practice emergencies and failures of instruments often, including in annual 3 day SIMCOM training required by insurance. I also hand fly, especially when in a two pilot situation. That said, while your point of view is extreme, especially considering that nearly every aircraft manufactured in the last 20 years has some level of this automation, I understand. And that’s why I do all the things I just said I do. In the end, I firmly believe it improves safety if handled with respect for all the things that can go wrong.

    Nice video! Question: wouldn’t it be better to pick up the IFR clearance on the ground?

    • @mkleczynski
      @mkleczynski 3 місяці тому

      Seems like you’re a pilot so you know how difficult that can *sometimes* be. If cloud clearance were an issue, I would absolutely pick up on the ground. In this case, I could have flown VFR so elected to pick up in the air. That said, I wasn’t expecting it to take so long.

    I'm wondering what those continuous CAS messages are during the engine starting? I've noticed that they pop up in every of your videos.

    • @mkleczynski
      @mkleczynski 3 місяці тому

      There's a variety. You'll get the ignition CAS warning message, sometimes a low fuel left or right message, etc. Sometimes there's no rhyme or reason either.

    • @philip54073
      @philip54073 3 місяці тому

      @mkleczynski Thank you for the explanation. Triggering CAS when there is no rhyme, as you say, could eventually lead to ignoring real one. Meaning, resetting the CAS buttons constantly might lead to not pay attention to a possible real one?
