I used to go to Joe Nall with my late friend so Scott capps sounds very familiar to me just like Kirby McKinney.
Damnnn, i wish you were my instructor. Very informative, a great video/presentation. i am a 141 type, get it done fast :) Peace out.
Did you print the condensed version (400 ish pages) or the entire layout (800 ish) for your binder? Must have been a lot of trees either way 😂
I actually had 2 whole binders! One was all the ground material, and the other had all the maneuvers. It was definitely a lot 😅
I purchased a $60 asa book with online test and the authorization my FFA test.
I know it's been awhile but don't stress about this, your videos are helping me a lot for my cfi training, check ride is in two days. BUT, I have failed a check ride because of slow flight before (even after passing pwr off stalls). It's hard to admit failure over such a simple thing but you definitely do remember the small things after something like that!
Another thing I saw not regarding to the situation is that his rudder skills while flying is awesome to watch. Especially as a student pilot
Great job! ❤
Taxiate, navigate, communicate, did things in all the right order.
More right rudder 🤣🤣🤣
It always happens to student pilots....
Great situational awareness.
Beautiful landing man! I’m at approximately 20 hrs right now, and I’m still trying to get those down…
Great job! I had a radio failure on my second solo. Thankfully I had a backup radio.
I always carry a backup with me for this exact reason
Nice job!
did u pass
I did!
😂
Thank for taking the time to make this videos .Im in the middle of my cfi training and you really explained everything easy to understand. Keep it up you have a lot of potential on your channel.
Awesome thanks for letting me know what to expect.
Extremely helpful and informative video. Great presentation skills, and technical quality. Looking forward to viewing your other videos. Thanks for your guiding lessons. Hope it helps our new breed of upcoming pilots.
1st class medical is always a first class medical. However after it expires it's still called the first class medical, but you can only exercise the privileges of a second-class medical and then ultimately exercise the privilege of a third Class medical privileges.
Nobody mentions the student is going to have a check ride in an hour after getting a phone number and possible deviation. How did that check ride go? I would like to hear the controller tell the DPE on how to give a check ride.
I am a Professional pilot with 44 years experience. I have heard my fair share of rants over the radio. I found this controller took the issue a little too far. It was almost like he was trying to provoke the pilot to say something off colored back and then creating a bigger issue.
Hey Clayton! Great video. Super useful information, what type of camera do you use for your videos? Looks really sharp! Thanks
Appreciate this comment! Sorry for the delayed response. Trying to catch up on replying to comments! I use a Sony A7III. Before I began flight training, I worked as a videographer so I still have a lot of my equipment!
This is angry rob, he goes on these rants all the time, I fly out of vero and it’s like every other week he has one of these
So if I pass all the written before flight school, do I need to take ground school at flight school?
This depends from school to school. You'll have to call them up and ask!
Very informative! Loved this video!
Just started my journey here in charlotte. Thanks for the video!
Aviation safety is everyone's business. It is best to follow the rules.
Great video bud. Totally agree, always follow the centerline but also make sure you are clearing obstacles…I’ve seen other planes way to close to centerline that made my c-130 dev off of centerline and I’ve seen some really high plowed snowbanks that would clip a wing if pilots weren’t paying attention!
Thanks Clayton for your honesty and selfless example. That’s the kind of instructor anybody would want. Your Grandpa is just as proud of you for that as for passing the check ride. I struggle sometimes with honesty in a misguided attempt to spare hurt feelings. Doesn’t work. I’m scheduled for my CFI check ride this coming June with said DPE. Thanks to you, I will not forget clearing turns. 😂
This DPE is one of my absolute favorites. I've sent multiple students to him since passing my CFI. I hope you enjoy it with him!
Hickory Station is great
Glad I discovered your channel bro! The way you debrief feels casual and relatable. Breath of fresh air compared to other debriefs on YT haha
Appreciate it man!
I don't disagree with your suggestion to get the medical 1st. However, if there is ANY reason whatsoever that you think you can't pass a medical exam, I'd strongly recommend booking a "consultation" with the Airman Medical Examiner prior to completing ANY paperwork. Alternatively, join AOPA and ask to speak to their medical people. I'm a long-time flight instructor and Designated Pilot Examiner. I've seen too many folks who've completed the MedXpress form and gone to the AME only to have the application denied or deferred. The FAA is woefully behind on medical evaluations and it is common to wait a year or more for FAA approval. So, get a consultation FIRST if you think you may have an issue. Don't take a chance. Also, currently, private pilot test is 65 questions. 5 of those questions are questions the FAA is testing for validity and do not count toward your final score. Nice video.
Absolutely love this advice.
Thank you for sharing with us in this manner .. Nothing but love and respect for you Clayton please know that we value your honesty & efforts so deeply and completely . Your grandpa is indeed looking down proud .
please dont give up on these cfi training videos, these are so useful
I appreciate it! It's hard to find time to do these nowadays but I'm gonna try to make more!
You should do a video on "special issuance" medicals. It is an adventure to get through it.
So,you cannot do it being permanent resident?
Yes, you can, but you still need TSA approval.
nice Guide to quikstart ! thanks
Good video my man - thanks and love from the UK!
Can't emphasize enough that you should start your medical early! Great advice. Don't get halfway through your training and then find out you have to wait a year for a special issuance from the FAA.
Great video, Clayton. The only thing(s) I would have went into more detail is about the validity of the FAA written exam - which is 2 years. That is very important to understand. If the training is not completed by that time, the test will need to be retaken. That translates into more money being spent, of course. Now, in my instance, I started flying before 2020, however, as everyone knows, Covid decided to do an unwelcome visit which caused delays, then financial hardship set in among other things. I decided not to take the written exam because along with the aforementioned with me, I find it easier if I can apply some things now, so that when I take the exam, the test questions will be more visual understanding. To each their own in listening / learning aspects, I'm sure. So, my theory is, make sure the financing is readily available, get some idea of what it will be like to fly (discovery flight), BEFORE spending the few hundreds of dollars only to find out that either A) you couldn't complete training during the 2 year period meaning taking the test multiple times, or B) as you mentioned with medical, you find out for whatever reasons, cannot be approved to fly in the first case. So, all that being said, I'd take the discovery flight first, then medical, then ground school (I used Sportys also), then the exam....only with after having about 5 hours logged in. Continuing with my case, I have to pause my training because there are some medical issues that are being looked into that could potentially disqualify me from my training. But, I'm staying hopeful in that if I cannot get the Private, perhaps I can at least receive Recreational. Thank you for your thoughts and continue doing the great work of training the rookies😊 Take care. -- Matthew A
The info was very helpful, and I like the way you explain the different steps in detail!!
I wish I saw this! I should've started Ground School before flying but well!
Прикольные звуки чоткий монтаж
given that they were landing and seemingly practicing something how likely is it that they didnt ignore the controller but were busy flying the plane? you know, aviate navigate then communicate.
Oh I have no doubt that this is probably the case. A good lesson though to keep those ears open and always listen for your call sign from ATC
Pilot has ultimate authority. Full stop. Didn't answer ATC? Fly the plane first. Aviate, navigate, commuincate. ATC is paid to serve the pilots, and manage the world to best serve the pilots. Unable is a very strong word that usually won't be challeneged.
Didn't he cross 4/22 to get to C5?
There's no law against being an asshole, so it's ok to be an asshole.
What hood / foggles are you using?
Viban IFR Hood. Someone left it at our school and after it siting for a month and no one claiming it, I decided to take it lol. I love it! Foggles tend to make me motion sick, but this doesn't. Here's a link: www.amazon.com/ViBAN-IFR-Hood-w-Nosepiece/dp/B00UESHF4M
Great take. Nobody had a good day here. Instructor demonstrated poor situational awareness and communication. Controller overreacted to a minor mistake while the pilot was actively apologizing. A point I would add is that the VASAviation animations aren't perfectly synced with the audio. We don't know for sure where the aircraft was when the exit instruction was given, how fast it was going, or whether he was still riding a wheelie as he passed C4. These details matter, since if C4 couldn't be taken safely, the pilot was under no obligation to do it. Of course he should have said "unable", but again - not anybody's best day. All the bickering about 4-3-20 is totally academic. If the FAA ever touches this, it will be resolved with 5 minute phone call reminding the instructor of all the stuff you said, which the instructor clearly already knows. I'm no expert on how ATC handles personnel issues, but I'd imagine the supervisor is going to encourage tower to worry a little more about ATC-ing, and not disciplining people on frequency.
Excellent info the add!
