SPECTRE PRO SHOP SOFTWARE | Home For ALL Bowling Pro Shops!
Some of the shops in my area are apparently using Turbo bits to install JOPO. Had a ball come into the shop with JOPO outer installed 1/8" too shallow, and the slug I installed for him was cut down 1/8" short of standard depth JOPO because of this, which was only discovered later when I drilled a blank ball for him. Yikes! We really do need a some kind of a depth gauge that can be twisted into an existing JOPO outer to determine if it was drilled to standard depth.
I have looked all over and cannot find the exact span gauge tool you are using. Where can I find this if it is still available.
Contact Innovative. They remade one. It is a copy of the Jonell Span Gauge
@@spectrebowling Thank you
Great information. How would i find my PAP if i just started bowling? Would i put a generic PAP on a ball layout and bowl, Then go through this process to find my actual PAP?
This is where the 60 degree method would be a good starting point. Start with this generic layout on your first ball. It'll take you some time to develop your release to be consistent before checking your PAP. ua-cam.com/video/BkeUY16Gxw0/v-deo.html
Thank you very much!
I am 60-65 axis rotation, 10 degrees tilt so low tilt , I am speed dominant lefty , low to average rev rate, while pap is 4-9/16<- X 14/16^. And I like playing close to the track to the 1 board.
How do you do this with a symmetric ball ?
Same process. To identify the mass bias, measure 6 3/4 from the pin thru the CG.
What is the abbreviation of VAL?and VLS layout system 😅
VAL is Vertical Axis Line. VLS is Vector Layout System.
this is a nice channel for learning knowledge about bowling ball layout, i m still confused about the distance between PIN to PAP, PSA to PAP, VAL to PAP and the ball reaction difference. thank you very much~😊😊
Pin to PAP is the most important. It controls the ball flare potential. PSA to PAP will control the shape of the hook down lane. VAL to PAP isn’t a term since the PAP is on the VAL. The VAL is the line on which the PAP vertical coordinate is.
When going from one to two hands bowling do I need to measure new pin to pap or can I use one I have for one handed style ? Thanks in advance
no, you should check the PAP again using the two handed style. They should be drastically different from one another.
@@spectrebowling Than you for clarifying that for me.🤝
A+ video
Thank you very much!
Please can you tell me which camera and mic you are using for your youtube videos?
what if i dont have a pap is there base pap i should use or stanrdard for my first ball ever
In that case, for your first ball, we suggest doing a generic layout using a symetrical bowling ball. Here is that video. ua-cam.com/video/BkeUY16Gxw0/v-deo.html
He starts out by marking the symmetrical ball 6 3/4 down for a theoretical mass bias......why? Why 6 3/4? Ok.
Hi Steve. This is done on a symmetrical ball to get a spot on the equator of the ball. 6 3/4 is a quarter of the ball on the surface.
So the only way to know the pap is if the bowler knows what it is, and if they don't know what it is and you have them roll the ball on the lane and to find out what it is that does not mean that the person who drilled the ball actually drilled the pap to what they told the bowler or what you actually had measured on the lane, is that a fair statement?
Not sure I understand the question. PAP has to be measured on the lane, it is very hard to do this without having the bowler throw a ball down the lane. A bowler can know their PAP, however most bowlers won’t know it by heart. I recommend checking the bowlers PAP every couple of years for recurring customers. Hope this answers the question.
@@spectrebowling I had a Pro Shop drill my ball, but he never had me throw it down the lane. I'm assuming he just used a generic pap. I guess that's why it rolls like he guessed at it. I ordered a Amidillo can I do a full ball layout with it,... without using the Pro-Sect.... I appreciate your help... tks
How do you determine a half cut and how is this done?
Hi Jimmy. It’s hard to describe over text. Basically you see if there is a bump on either side of the thumb joint. If your total thumb move is v.100/h.100. Then the half back cut v.100/.050. Basically adding a cut at the end, at the same height but half the horizontal movement. I’ll shoot a video about that. Thanks for the idea.
@@spectrebowling thanks for the reply. Can’t wait for the video.
Ok
I’m getting an arctic vibe and I’m lefty. What layout do you recommend?
Sorry for the late reply. We would need more information to help us make that decision. You can watch this video on how to identify the necessary data for your bowling style, those 5 points will help us make the right decision for you. ua-cam.com/video/756caMQ2zj8/v-deo.htmlsi=UtE1j8bM3KQ50ahX
I really hate when people use slide powders. It should be banned by every bowling alley.
Agreed, during play it isn’t recommended, however for bringing this pair of shoes back to life, it’s an important part to do off the lanes.
What kind of wire brush? It’s hard to see exactly what the brush looks like.
any proshop should have a shoe brush in stock. Most brushes are made of brass if i'm not mistaken. You can also find some made with vinyl bristles that will do the trick just fine, i show it at the 1:05 mark, that is the Brunswick branded brush.
Would you recommend the .05 bigger drill bit to allow for the clearance
Those oversized bits are for slugs, not for interchangeables. I do recommend them, if you watch out ‘how to cut an oval’ video, I mention that.
What additional work is necessary to line up the insert correctly on a second ball to ensure an existing thumb insert is directionally correct on subsequent balls? Is there a "true" line on the sleeve?
Yes. At 4:07 you can notice that there is a line on the outer and I line that up with the center line.
Me and my dad have the thumb sleeve glued on to the slug it and it works for me.
How big of a difference is the off hand ball speed to the ball speed on the score monitor ball speed difference.
could depend on many factors, lane pattern, lane surface, ball surface and core could have big influences in how the ball slows down during its journey towards the pins.
Why did you attend the pro shop training school at innovative? You seem like you could be hosting your own classes.
We’re a dealer for Innovative in Canada and I’ve always wanted to see how John and his team run the class. I had the privilege to be part of the instructor team with Cecil at he class and look forward to working in the future with them. I’m presenting at the IBPSIA conference in Denver on Sunday as well.
And I do host the IBPSIA HOTS classes in Montreal Canada. We do 4 classes a year.
@markbuffa5840 Good to know. I hope to attend one of those classes. I have a question. If you're drilling an oval, would this eliminate the pitch you would put in the ball? If not, how would you drill an oval with pitch?
@@electrician240 watch the video again, we mention it at 3:57. The example uses 3/16 reverse as a starting pitch. Basically your first step is that you put the pitch on the machine. Everything is relative to that starting point.
does this work for symmetrical cores as well or just asym?
Both
I like a round thumb hole. I know that my thumb is not round, but my thumb is flexible enough that it seems to adapt to the round hole, and I get a suction that I like. If it's too snug, I use a dab of Chap Stick on sides of joint and works perfect in getting out of ball. I also am a fan of a tapered thumb slug. Almost like a molded thumb. Keep it simple.
If you have to pound it or force the slug in, the ball with split down the line.
Thanks for making the video it was really helpful I was able to fix my son’s shoes using your instructions. Thanks.
One note about the Storm Mix and Roto Grip RG: The Riser Pin is actually the center of the Puck/Top Weight, not the CG. So if you put the CG in the grip center the riser pin will act as a weight offset on the ball. You could then rotate the Pin/Top Weight around to produce static imbalance and thus create different ball dynamics on a small scale. If you want to have a fairly neutral balanced ball like a normal plastic ball with only a CG, then put the riser pin in the grip center instead of the CG and move the CG placement near where the ball track would be.
What model surface pro are you using.
We have a surface pro 3 and 4. I kept an eye out for anything refurbished, since the shop is an easy place for the device to get damaged, we didn’t want to put new devices on the drill presses.
This video was awesome thank you for the detailed but quick to the point instructions and explanation of each number and what they do!
Excellent. Can we do the same but for 2LS?
Of course. Follow the same steps. Just the last step for VLS would be changed to measure the pin to center of grip distance for 2LS.
Absolutely fabulous 😊 great explanation especially the dual angle system cos I just leant that recently 😂thanks for sharing !
Very informative
I have a wine u dot urethane and it has the pancake weight block so the cg that has the u is where the core is and I want to get the most out of the ball motion . And the cg heavy spot is right beside the u so what should I put on it to lay it out .
One of my favorite urethane balls!!! The ones i really liked I simply put the CG 1/2" positive side and 1/2" positive finger at the time. It has such a small bearing on what you can get out of ball motion. At the time, I had also tried the plastic ball layout that Mo Pinel had come up with for the PBA plastic ball championship, however that needs a weight hole and in today's standards can't be done anymore... and to be honest, I didn't like the reaction. Hope this helps.
@@spectrebowling What about for 2 handers, can the same logic be applied? And do you think the 2LS layout would work on the Fab Hammers?
I have been experimenting seems i have a problem and like to do everything myself... 😂Well, i messed up and got my vise thumb interchangeable stuck somehow i didnt drill all the way thru yet i was excited i got it and have been practicing drilling on broken balls. I wasnt thubking and before i had it fully drilled i put the It in my ball 🫣😑 just checking everything out.. i believe its suctioned in there because it will spin all the round around for a couple turns. Could i put a tiny hole diagonal thru to help for releasing air? Mistakes are ok thats how some kf us learn. 😂
I don’t think it’s succion. Did you do the proper steps with the ‘ball-it’. Did you knock it down with the push down rod and also install the expander?
What to do when the inner didnt steady and move easy?
Check the tabs of the inner, maybe they are worn out. Is it the same on another ball?
@@spectrebowling i put some paper and glue to the inner, only that has the problem, and it solved hehe thank you
i absolutely love these
Might want to edit this one. Jimoos email and phone number are shown.
Great video, never thought to try and refresh them. I always just replace them. Will give it a try.
powder is illegal in competition
Agreed, however we wanted to educate bowlers on how to care for their shoes if they are in bad shape. I get too many clients that come in with black soles and don’t do anything to their soles, so we felt the need to do a video to explain how to bring beat up shoes back to life.
You should talk about brush direction: Front to back, back to front, side to side..
I always liked going front to back in between shots. But this video was intended for just general shoe care, we have so many clients come into the shop with black soles and never clean the slide pad that I felt we needed to shoot a short video just for that and put it on our monitors in the shop. But yes great comment, thank you.
What about a slide stone?
Yes slide stone would be a great in-game replacement for powder. However, for recovery maintenance, similar to the example of my son's shoe, we needed to do much more than just hit it with a slide stone. Thanks for the comment and it is a valid point, thanks for sharing that.
How much deeper do these go. I onow switch grip is pretty deep and just wondering how much more core is coming out with these
Its 3.22”, so it goes go deeper. If you check the installation document on the Jopo website that’s where I got the depth number from.
I want to learn about pitches. Performance fitting , spans etc. Can they help with rotation or getting my hand to stop coming iff the top of the dang ball. Thankyiu for all you do..
Is that Simoo?
Thank you for all you do!! I appreciate you!! Hugs
Wow. I haven't seen these. What a great channel you have. You are awesome. Thank you for your time, sharing.. hugs
Great video
Hey Mark! Just had this installed at your shop the other day, but I cant for the life of me get the thumb out (I didn't get the key) Is there any way to make it "looser"? Thanks
You’re going to need to wear out the clips a bit. Basically lock, unlock a bunch of times to loosen up the clips. If you wanna bring it back to us so we can double check.
@@markbuffa5840 Hey, just saw your reply! Is there any way we could set up an appointment? I also had questions about thumb hole size/shape
Yes there is a booking page on our homepage and also you can call the shop to Book some time or simply walk in.
Since the Armadillo ribs are marked in inches, I usually just use the the ribs to measure the distance from the PAP to the first oil line, subtract that distance from 13.5 (distance from PAP to NAP), then divide by 2 to get the arc distance across the NAP. ie: 8" distance from PAP to first oil line; 13.5 - 8 = 5.5"; 5.5 x 2 = 11" arc distance across the NAP.
