How long is this log!!!
We were planning on making fence boards out of this log, but we had some mission creep, and now we're sawing planter boards! It's a poplar log, so I'm not sure how long it will last, but at least they got some boards to make a planter!

How do we handle a HUGE UGLY cypress log??
Переглядів 68819 годин тому
Today we sawed the last of the Cypress (Cypress, not the country Cyprus....) logs my friend Juraj from Annapolis Tree gave us last year. It is unbelievably not round and had all sorts of limbs sticking out.... For us in the Mid Atlantic region (Annapolis Maryland) we have few if any old growth trees. There was almost no trees left from the Atlantic Ocean to the White House after the Civil War. ...

We're at the Anne Arundel County Fair getting ready for the fair which starts in a few weeks. Before we try to start the Detroit 471 we need to change the teeth or "bits" on this 56 inch blade. Alan and Tom work away on changing the bits while the rest of the crew clean things up. Thanks for watching.
How many tomato stakes this two logs will make?
Переглядів 97121 день тому
Today the geezers are making tomato stakes! Alan saws the first dirty rotten red oak and Wayno saws the Big Ugly White oak. Tom #1, Tom #2, Cody, George, Pete and Bob load logs and sharpen stakes. So how many do we get???? Thank watching!

Wayno Sawing a BUC! (Big Ugly Cherry)
Переглядів 532Місяць тому
Bob dropped off a few cherry logs last week, so we're going to make them into boards! This log though was not quite as nice as the poplar Alan and I have been bringing.... It's not very straight, it has lots of big things hanging off it, but in the end it works out ok! Please leave a comment on how you think we did.
We have a new Sawyer!
Переглядів 596Місяць тому
Alan's been watching carefully how we saw lumber, and with Wayno away last week he stepped up to the plate and ran the sawmill! While that sounds easy, it starts with paying attention and making sure we operate safely. We're all volunteers, and not everyone has the same level of experience, so the sawyer must watch all aspects of the operation. Thank you Alan for jumping in! And, nice job sawin...
Fork Lift Cody has talent and we saw cherry boards on the Frick
Переглядів 649Місяць тому
Check out the talent Newbie Cody has! In addition to helping the geezers at the sawmill Cody is a wood burner! While most of us burn firewood, Cody turns this wood into amazing works of art! And for sawmilling today, Bob dropped off a few nice cherry logs for us. Well, they're not that nice, but they will make nice cherry boards! Thanks for watching.
Making fence boards out of a really nice poplar log
Переглядів 766Місяць тому
The original plan was to make this into 17 foot long 1x6 fence boards. Due to Alan's unbridled enthusiasm to use his Stihl MS-261 Chain saw, this 17 foot long log got cut in half! So now we have twice as much fun making 8 foot fence boards. Sorry for the lack of videos lately. Paula and I were in New England at a funeral and wedding. (Separate events....). Hi to all the relatives and thank you ...

I had to watch the whole damn thing get cut up, and I don't even know why. Kind f therapeutic, for some reason. In the VERY old days this was the iconic Bad Guy scene- where he'd tie a woman down and threaten to send her through the blade, when, of course our Hero would jump in at the last possible second and free her.

My friend, The year is 2024. In the United States of America we do selective logging which enhances and improves forests, while providing a sustainable revenue for land owners, sawmill operators and lumber retailers. We don't clear cut entire forests. Logging is not done without oversite and permits. Thank you for watching and thank you for your watching but your comment is not based on facts or reality. Good luck in life, I hope we meet in person one day. Wayne
