    Interesting how the more things change, the more they stay the same. Such as securing the foilage band with 550 cord. I still taught that with my soldiers as a squad leader in 2018-2021. Its the cheapest and most effective method for doing so.

    My most cozy setup was the jacket AND pants liner with a wooly pully over my skivvy shirt and then my utilities over that. The gloves and liners were surprisingly comfortable. I never wore the long underwear unless it was well below freezing.

    In West Germany in the early-mid 80's, a lot of GI's had either a wool blanket or poncho liner sewn into the rain jacket. They were referred to a Hawk or Graf Jackets. You could either wear them over your BDU's or Field Jacket minus the jacket liner.

      @@namenotfound8747 sort of, 60 pounds is kinda the general consensus throughout history or whatever the equivalent to a third of your body weight is. This goes for everybody from Spartans to Napoleons Old Guard. Since ww2 soldiers have started carrying drastically more weight. Now in with full ruck and with battle rattle the gear is 100 pounds or more depending on weapon system and if you have radios etc etc.

    If you were in the 82nd CIF would issue a kevlar helmet with the pad already installed (we referred to them as kevlars, - the term k-pot did not come about untiol the very late 80s or even early 90's). Also you did not need 550 cord to keep the "foliage band" on the helmet during airborne operations, never saw anyone do that.

  • @pilgrim42
    @pilgrim42 2 роки тому

    I was in the Division from '85 -'87 (2/504) and it was not uncommon to replace all the metal clips on the harness with 550 cord. This is not only more comfortable when wearing a ruck, but also more comfortable when in a parachute harness. Other than division review, we never had bayonets issued to us when going to the field (that may have been different in other battalions), but most 11B's did have knives of some type on their LBE's. I had one LBE for actual use and another for IG or other inspections.

    • @Jason-iz6ob
      @Jason-iz6ob 2 роки тому

      Other than bayonet training in basic I drew a bayonet exactly one time. We had a brigade change of command ceremony in Korea and we marched with fixed bayonets…..
