    at 4:25 when you add relief, are you touching the 12th fret or the 13th? Do you do this until fret 12 or 13 up to 21 are totaly leveled? Doesn't that create a low 12 or 13th fret? Do you need a fall away after this? thanks!

      Hi many thanks for your interest, no you don’t necessarily need to have a fall away. In fact the guitars I make don’t have one. (In my opinion ) if the the guitar is well made and the fretboard and frets are dead level then there is no reason why you would need a fall away. Some would argue tho that a guitar with a fall away is better to play. I’m in no way shape of form a shredder so I wouldn’t really know. I would say that none of my instruments have come back to be modified. Having said that I’ve never made one for a guitar God 😊

    I just finished leveling my frets and noticed that they all got touched by my 10" leveling beam, and there's no rocking with a fret rocker, but there are still gaps with a notched straight edge. Is this because the plane that spans 3 frets with the fret rocker is different than the plane that spans the neck?

    • @VintageRadius
      @VintageRadius 3 місяці тому

      Sounds like you leveled the frets with the neck not straight. That won’t necessarily affect playability

    Is it wise to wet sand with frets removed? My thought is that water will fall into the fret slots and penetrate the neck.

    • @NickRogersNJRCustomGuitars
      @NickRogersNJRCustomGuitars 2 роки тому

      No unfortunately it was pretty loud. The sound was turned down when making the video. However a later upgrade was to install a 1.5 Hp air cooled spindle. This was a lot let’s say less noisy! However even tho the running of the spindle was quiet you can’t change the noise the cutter makes actually removing material. You could possibly incase the CNC in a sound proof box. Or better soundproof a section of your loft. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do.

    As gently as I've removed the frets,i have some tearout from the sides of the groove that meet the side of th e fret itself. Will the Titebond close the gap so the fret is snugly in place or are there other glues or fillers to fix this ??? Thanks

    • @NickRogersNJRCustomGuitars
      @NickRogersNJRCustomGuitars 2 роки тому

      Thanks for your message, tearout is a pain. If the tearout pushes back down then yes the titebond will be ideal but if the material is missing completely (nothing to push back down) I have repaired issues like this using superglue (with no activating spray or it will turn white in colour) built up slowly in stages. It’s not invisible but you would have to look hard for the repair. Hey but please seek further advice as this is just how I do things there may well be better alternatives.

By filling this space with glue it adds the the guitars sustain and protects the guitar from having any so called dead notes.

    Hi. What glue do you use?

    Thanks for taking the time to put this video together Nick. I found this because I'm thinking about buying a set of Tonerider Generators but wanted to know if they sound good clean as well as overdriven. Your playing here is really articulate and tasteful plus you did a fantastic job building that guitar 👍👍

      James hi, thanks for your kind comments, yes the tone rider generators are great all rounder pickups. I’ve used them several times now in building guitars. However I also like and can recommend rolling mill pickups from iron gear. Not much in the price between the two but I think if I had to choose the best all rounder it would be the iron gears however there is not much in it. Best of luck with your project. Thanks nick

    Great vid, thanks! how does using the sanding paper to remove the build up not scratch the finish? also any reason you chose the titebond vs CA?

      Thanks for your feedback, yes ca glue could be used. I choose to use titebond simply for the ease of clean up. The wet and dry paper is very fine and in turn will scratch the polished surface, but the small scratches will polish out with ease.
