I would do a call back on phantom hourglass, hourglass has a wonderful soundtrack, except for the dungeon theme a great DS game but unfortunately has the worse soundtrack for a dungeon, even worse since it is the same theme in every dungeon, doesn't give them uniqueness. Good thing they fixed that in it's sequel spirit tracks.

Ok wow so I mentally ranked all the 3D game stories before starting the video, and we have them in the exact same order. TotK < BotW < OoT < SS < WW < TP < MM

Unpopular opinion I don’t really ALTTP or ALBW. Yeah they sort of break the Zelda mold in that they are non linear but they both kinda suffer from the same flaws but in different ways. 1. The dungeons are meh 2. The wall merging and dark mirror mechanics feel a bit shallow at times 3. Lots of the bosses are meh 4. Some of the puzzles are meh Like they are both good games but they feel like the most bland Zelda games. Like I consider BOTW, TP the worse Zelda games because they both feel shallow too. But ALTTP and ALBW to me feel mid. To me peak Zelda games were the more metroidvania Zelda’s games, like Links Awakening, Minish Cap, Skyward Sword, Majoras, lesser extent OOT. I dunno Dungeons to me are the core part of Zelda, along with dungeons and bosses and the ones that get the sacred cow treatment are always the “it has the best exploration/Zelda is primarily about exploration” type Zelda games.

Idk why but I to have always loved the forest temple. Ever since I was a kid I loved the forest temple but at the same time it was always the one dungeon i get stuck on bc of the first key in the first room I would forget all about it and never go back to that room and spend time looking for a key I missed. But even forgetting the key and getting stuck multiple times i still loved this temple more than any other dungeon in any other zelda game. I just don't know why

I don't much like Wind Waker's gameplay but the Hero of the Winds is by far my favorite Link because he wasn't some destined hero by any means, he just took fate by the balls and said "this is my story now boyo"

Great list! I agree with a lot of your choices, especially in the Top 10. I'll never forget how the Forest Temple impacted me when I played it for the first time, and I wasn't even a kid! The twisted halls were so unique, and the Wallmasters scared me to death! What could be scarier than Navi, out of nowhere, warning you about the shadows of monsters hanging from the ceiling, and then watching this growing shadow of a massive hand follow you everywhere you ran? Terrifying, especially before I learned I could kill them! Then, there was the music! It sounded both like a song and like wild, unseen beasts or ghosts were howling and barking. I specifically remember being spooked when the music got louder as I ran through some of those rooms; I thought I was about to run into whatever was making those sounds! You talking about your experience made me remember mine. Thanks!

I gotta disagree with that take on totk about Zelda’s draconification. I really don’t feel her being turned back by a combination of Sonia’s and Raru’s power is an asspull. We’ve seen throughout that both of them have a great deal of different powers and that the secret stones can grant all sorts of powers, heck we see it turn ganandorf from a buff gerudo man into a reincarnation of dhemise. So it’s not far fetched to believe that a combo of secret stones can undo a process caused by another. Although her sacrifice didn’t mean less because she was “changed right back” she was an immortal mindless dragon for thousands of years.

Small note, the albatrawl and crow are not the same. The albatrawl is a straight attacker, the crow has a (divisive) special mechanic. The crow can collect rupees which are automatically added to your wallet, and the first time an enemy is hit by a crow they will drop a handful of rupees, usually green or blue. This is amazing for making a lot of money quickly, but the downside is crows will prioritise picking up rupees over attacking, that means that you can summon a flock of crows and they'll fly off to the other side of the screen chasing a random rupee that you missed over attacking the enemy right in front of them.

Play the original Majorah's Mask before complaining about the remake. What the remake does for the most part is replace obscure mechanics, that were only used in Majorah's Mask with more common ones - so if you played another 3D Zelda you would feel at home, it also makes some boss fights easier, and adds ingame hints. This results in a game that is actually beatable without memorizing online guides. The complaints about it mostly boil down to "Git Gut!" and "Different Bad!" arguments. You should check the game out before agreeing with the claims of it's superiority - especially since folks who aren't knee deep in the Mask fanbase will gladly admit that the N64s gameplay was tedious and borderline impossible to beat. And if you do, tell how much you enjoyed the original Water Temple specifically.

from the sounds of it, it looks like the things you dont like are the things you are terrible at. Going back to your comments about the original Zelda from '86 as to using word of mouth and magazines, yes some but mostly trial and error, e.g. there are hints in the game, and then you work it out from the hint, e.g bush burning we go around burning all the bushes to find out, and we didnt care if it took ages, because we had more patient, there were less games to play, and we would invest time in playing this, months etc.. not 5mins and this was the only game like it at the time.

YES! I was SO ANNOYED with the Dragonification plotline in TotK! When I found that plot point out I was actually gobsmacked. Nintendo had the BALLS to basically kill off Zelda just so she could save Hyrule. The story had real emotional beats! But NoOoOoO, the power of friendship or whatever-the-fuck brings her back at the end and there were no actual consequences for her actions. It pissed me off so much that I tried not catching her at the end just to see what happens.

Long intros are the OPPOSITE of being good on a replay. That's why some of the most popular mods for Fallout 3 and 4 and Skyrim are all about skipping the intro. A long intro is fine on a first playthrough most of the time, but it makes the game feel like a slog on repeat playthroughs. I definitely did not mind TP's intro when I first played it, but when I replayed it in recent years I went "Oh man, I gotta go through ALL THIS before I get to actually play the game?"

The thing about Forsaken Fortress is that it feels like I am playing a bad mobile game. That plus bad music makes it worst dungeon for me. As bad as totk water temple is, its main issue is that it's just non-existent. It's not just plain bad like Forsaken. And the music is amazing. Great Bay temple is far better than all the non-traditional dungeons at the least. It's far superior to all BotW and TotK dungeons.

As someone who will die for Wind Waker and Ocarina of Time, I recognize that if Skyward Sword’s glaring issues were minimal and the controls weren’t *that* , it’d be the best Zelda game of all time.

I'm so glad this in chronological order aside from the section where you talk about the online games. Not many people talk about the Zelda games in chronological order. I also king of like the Triforce Fetch Quest in WW. It gave me an extra adventure to do before ending my journey because I do absolutely everything possible before beating the final boss in a Zelda game. When I got one final thing to do, I got happy. It meant I didn't have to put the game away as fast as I expected. I also fucking love Tp. It's my favorite Zelda game and the mailman is the best part.

For the first take, i don’t think botw first time is the best gaming experience even in zelda or open world games, my first skyward sword play was better and elden ring was an even better open world
