Thank you for this excellent video! If I were installing a 3 wire fan in a piece of hi-fi audio gear and was concerned about the tach wire sending noise back onto the 12V rail, what would be a good way to isolate that?
Great video presentation, too bad not more videos posted. A perfect way to explain lessons. You have a gift for that in the presentation technique.
Designed with planned obsolescence...!! We shall ignore and boycott these brands which always show reputation for failure due to thermal cycling. The products were not engineered to last.
thank you for the video. I will buy this one to learn how to use an oscilloscope for automotive. I will upgrade later if necessary. gread job!
Thanks for sharing....Useful, for me...
My Hanmatek DOS1102, which I bought new a few days ago, does not have a built-in power supply. There is only a cheap external mobile phone power supply with a USB connection. This causes some interference and you do not get a clear display on the oscilloscope.
Very ugly repair! SMD caps should be replaced by SMD caps. The through hole caps you used are also "aluminium" type and electrolitic. They don't loose power but capacity (here in microFarads). However, this gave me an idea and I'll try it on my ONKYO TX-NR616.
No, that's wrong. If you want to have the same problem again in a few years, then replace the SMD components with SMD components. In the meantime, google planned obsolescence. Unfortunately, you have no idea.
@@RepairUpgrade, let me show the obvious here: 1. The SMD caps you removed are the same type as those you placed: electrolitic polarized capacitor in an aluminum capsule. The ONLY difference is the way the component is fixed on the circuit board: SMD goes on the surface, hence the SMD - Surface Mounted Device, those you use are through hole components, classic way to mount them. Both types have specs as capacity (microFarads in this case), working voltage (from 3.3 to 63 Vdc for these sizes) and maximum working temperature, usually 85°C or 105°C). 2. The problem in these ONKYOs is the design flaw regarding the heat dissipation. These receivers will get very hot even if playing quietly or in standby. So, the electrolytic caps will eventually fail, no matter the type used: SMD/through hole, or even older tantalum type. 3. The repair shown here is unsafe and ugly. Dangerous because those long wires might twist or touch any part of the circuit nearby. Short-circuits and sparks everywhere! Since these caps are for filtering/decoupling the terminals are connected to ground and any of the powerlines in that device and this is dangerous. Also, the way you removed the failed caps by twisting and pulling instead of desoldering can damage the solder pads and circuit traces. So, who is wrong here?
Thanks, that was helpful.
very detailed & useful video Thank you!. I used your info to understand why my reciever shuts down - The reason shows up as VOLTAGE. History: I radomly get static noise out of any channels especially when there is no I/P signal & the volume is above 20. One day the Static noise came too high & it has since gone to Protection mode and shutsdown. The intresting thing is that if i reset the receiver it would come back good for a few days and then the static reappears back(not restricted to any particular channel). I also lost a Tweeter due to this issue. Any idea where could the fault lie at ?
sehr vielen dank, genau das was ich gebraucht habe!
HDMI out isnt spiting image on Tv, I see nothing , it says no display ..model Tx NR 656 , is this the capacitor issue?
Thanks for this overview and review. my Hanmatek DOS1102 inverts both channels CH1 and CH2 at the same time even though only one channel is selected. Is there perhaps new firmware for the device? I have version V3.1.0

Please do an teardown, VERY important to know what ADC and FPGA are used.
I was looking for a cheap DSO oscilloscope capable of doing a decent XY Mode, because I have seen many that have a crappy XY Mode with a few hertz refresh, really far away from what you see when they display data in normal mode. Unfortunately you have not tested it on the DOS1102.
hi please have you firmware v 4.0 for oscilooscope HANMATEK DOS 1102
Oh man, warum nicht auf Deutsch ?
Thank you very much. I had the same problem with my Onkyo tx-nr676. I have changed the capacitors and it looks like everything is working again 🙂
Thanks for your feedback. Glad to here I could help!👍
Which capacitors did you change for the tx-nr676 ?
What the fuck kind of way is that to remove the capacitors? pure hack......
50 degrees should be nothing It's not temperature controlled you would need a thermostat
I've a onkyo tx nr 686 with main hdmi out port don't work. Do you think maybe is the sarebbe problem?
Any word? I have the same problem.
How you get in your troubleshouting that the CAPs are the problem and not other part of HDMI Board? I have the same problem in TX-RZ810 that suddendly no picture on TV.
Did you figure it out? I have a TX-RZ710 that has no video out. The sound still works, and the TV still detects the hdmi cec data, just no video signal. Thanks.

This scope is the same Owon SDS1102. I bought one for Us$170 dollars, for this price is one of the best scopes in the market.
I want to adapt a new fan in a circuit where it has a faster fan but the same amount of airflow. This circuit has a protection that trips because of the lower speed of the new fan. Can I make a circuit to multiply the pulses sent by the fan's tach?
Is there a way to change fan theshold temp? It start way too late
Instead of opening up the receiver and soldering in the power supply cables, buy fans with USB power supply and plug them into either the USB power on the back of the receiver or an AC to USB transformer plug. Then just place the fans on top of the receiver. That is easiest and cheapest, plus it doesn't void your warranty.
Onkyo have warranties......?🤣
Hi, first, congratulations for the video. It's very detailed and guide me to understand the problem with my TX-NR797 (Main HDMI Output not working). Unfortunately, I didn't find any Service Manual in the net for my model and I can't find the correct capacitor to exchange and see if it fixes. Do you have the manual or someone else from a similar model or any other tip to handle this?
What about firmware update ?
Thank you for this video, it is the only clear and concise one available that I could find, that has shown me how to use the scope. When I bought it I had no Idea how to use one, but thanks to you I now have a basic understanding of it's operations.
Thank you for your comment! :-)
if u dont know how to use one u dont need one
hello, when an amplifier of any brand works only with the multichannel outputs, can it be saved or does it have to be discarded?
Before I do this how do I know it’s definitely it’s the capacitors that need replacing? It is only the main HDMI out that doesn’t work the secondary is fine. When I scan thru the chips the K one gives me the ?????????. The rest are okay. Thank you kindly for any advice!
What is the max vertical sensitivity of this scope?
For technical details you have to ask the manufacturer
Hi.
Voltage deviation can easily be calibrated. If you open housing and look from the back onto the front panel, the very left blue Potentiometer can be used to make the display Match aktualisiert voltage.
Hi there, thank you so much for this video. I have a Onkyo TX-NR609 that is broken with this exact problem. It is in quite a remote location in another country. If I would to order the same capacitors would it work, or would I have to hunt down the wiring diagram to check ? I can solder, but from an electronics standpoint, that's about my limit. Many Thanks Ian.
Hi, excellent explanation. Can you explain the use of black fan and when it works.
Mine has a sheet metal case. Plastic front panel.
Is a service manual available for the TX-NR757?
I know this is 2 years old, but I'm curious. Do you need the resistor to control fan speed or ca you just adjust the power cutting the yellow wire? I'm thinking of using a septic dc to dc buck boost converter to control speed of 5 fans. Any thoughts?
The third wire is a tachometer, to measure the speed. A 4 pin connector is the one you're looking for, where it has speed control.
Great video, in deep explanation, good cost-performance ratio. Thanks a lot
Hi, Hello, I’m writing yours in Turkey. We have a ONKYO but somedays ago we met new problem about HDM card. I asked all province ONKYO service and then I couldn’t find it. I am wondering about if you have a hdm card, I’ll buy it. I’m waiting your answer.
Good morning and sorry for the question, is this modification good for all ONKIO equipment? I own the TXNR 905
I would recommend the modification in the following cases: 1st the receiver generates a lot of heat and 2nd there are known technical problems (malfunctions) caused by the high temperatures in the inside of the device. You can find these technical problems e.g. in internet discussion forums.
@@alexanderh1980 Thanks, I don't currently have any problems, but I've seen several UA-cam videos with pan modifications that help a lot, any forum addresses? Thanks in advance
hello, that black plastic container in the ads for the modification you made What's in the description what is it for?
