British Lion live at The Redhouse, Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales 16 1 24
I saw British Lion at The Redhouse and was thoroughly impressed. Great to see Mr Harris up so close without being crushed to pulp lol
I filmed some but also thanks to my mate Art for some of the footage \m/

Iron Maiden - Back in the Village Bass cover
Переглядів 10 тис.7 років тому
The sequel to Maiden's song 'The Prisoner', Back in the Village is perhaps the weakest song on the Powerslave album, but it is a good rocker nonetheless .... a testament to how good the album actually is. Based on 'The Village' from the 1960s TV show 'The Prisoner', with Patrick McGoohan, this song doesn't quite have the charm that the first song had (from The Number of the Beast album), but it...
Iron Maiden - The Duellists Bass cover
Переглядів 20 тис.7 років тому
Somewhat of a hidden gem from the Powerslave album, I have always had a soft spot for The Duellists. It has never been played live for some reason, but has a great bass line - especially in the instrumental section. Stamina is definitely an issue on this one (if you are plucking with 2 fingers, as I always do). Just when you are getting tired (the tempo is deceptively fast), the instrumental se...
Iron Maiden - Flash of the Blade Bass cover
Переглядів 20 тис.7 років тому
The first of 2 consecutive songs on the Powerslave album relating to combat with swords, Flash of the Blade is slightly inferior to the track that follows it (The Duellists), but nonetheless is still quite a good song. The bassline is surprisingly challenging, largely due to the speed of the 2 plucking fingers during the verses, and also the fast cross-string octave work after the chorus. As in...
Iron Maiden - Losfer Words (Big 'Orra) Bass cover
Переглядів 8 тис.7 років тому
The third track from Powerslave, Losfer Words is actually the last time Maiden recorded an instrumental only track for an album. Which is a shame as far as I am concerned, as I like every instrumental they have ever recorded. In addition, Losfer Words was only played live on the British Tour of 1984 (maybe some European dates as well) and has never been played live since. Luckily, I managed to ...
Iron Maiden - 2 Minutes to Midnight Bass cover
Переглядів 18 тис.7 років тому
This was the first single from Powerslave, Maiden's 5th album, and what a great single it was - backed with the now infamous "Mission from 'Arry" (youtube search it if you don't know , but watch there are no kids listening lol). 2 Minutes to Midnight has featured on nearly every tour since 1984, remaining a live favourite. Speaking of 'live', this is one of those basslines that Harris has chopp...
Iron Maiden - Aces High Bass cover
Переглядів 8 тис.7 років тому
The opener from Maiden's 5th album 'Powerslave', 'Aces High' is full of adrenaline and a great way to kick off the Powerslave album. The bassline is not that complicated, but it does require both speed and stamina if you use 2 fingers on the plucking hand (as I always do). Remember, this was 1984 and Maiden did not use a click track when recording. the result being that this song speeds up noti...
Iron Maiden - To Tame a Land Bass cover
Переглядів 14 тис.8 років тому
This is probably the most difficult bass line from the first 4 Maiden albums .... I really had to strengthen the little finger on my left hand for this one! Based on the sci-fi novel 'Dune' by Frank Herbert, 'To Tame a Land' has a definite Eastern feel to it, really summoning up a desert atmosphere. The really tricky bit (at 4:06) is actually based on a classical guitar piece....something I onl...
Iron Maiden - Sun and Steel Bass cover
Переглядів 4,8 тис.8 років тому
Back in 1983 I remember hearing an interview with Steve Harris saying 'Sun and Steel' could be a good single .... obviously they went with 'The Trooper' instead, and ended up never actually playing this one live on stage in all these years. Sun and Steel is still a great track with some top notch vocals on the chorus, and a fast galloping bass line. This track is a pretty intense workout for th...
Iron Maiden - Quest for Fire Bass cover
Переглядів 6 тис.8 років тому
This track is often quoted as a weaker song on Piece of Mind, Iron Maidens 4th album, but I actually quite like it. On forums the lyrics specifically seem to take a bashing......"In a time when dinosaurs walked the Earth, and land was swamp and caves were home.....in an Age when prize possession was Fire, to search for landscapes men would roam". Yes....I know dinosaurs and man did not co exist...
Iron Maiden - Still Life Bass cover
Переглядів 4,4 тис.8 років тому
Still Life is one of my favourite tracks from Piece of Mind, Maidens 4th album. I liked this track on first hearing it back in 1983, and I am really surprised that it has not been played live more often. It was a set staple on the World Piece Tour and then only brought back briefly for the last part of the 7th Son Tour in 1988....then nothing! I really thought this track would have been resurre...
Iron Maiden - Die With Your Boots On Bass cover
Переглядів 13 тис.9 років тому
I didn't realise there was a gallop on the intro until I studied this song, but it is definitely there .... although when played live the gallop is dropped as the song is often faster. Track 4 from Piece of Mind, Die with your boots on is a great rocker and has been played on quite a few tours over the years. Some obscure lyrics (again!) from Bruce, with references to the Frenchman (Nostradamus...
Iron Maiden - Flight of Icarus Bass cover
Переглядів 14 тис.9 років тому
Even though Icarus was the lead single for Piece of Mind, it was only played on 2 tours (World Piece Tour and World Slavery Tour), so it has not been played since 1985. What a shame, as with the faster live tempo I felt this song really took off when I saw it live in 1984. I listened to the bass only version of this song on youtube, and was quite surprised to hear the 16th notes during the vers...

Great job! Thanks for sharing
@@marcelotomim thank you mate :)
I don’t know how anyone else feels about it, but I for one actually love Harry’s playing on the first two (more punk) albums! Some of the weirder timings and such can still catch me sleeping.
Absolutely. Steve's bass is way more interesting on the Di'Anno albums for some reason
No more bass vids?
One of my favourite maiden tracks
Perfect! Wow, thanks for sharing this.
Thanks for watching! :)
one of the most underrated Maiden's song..an amazing bass line
Duuuuude hell yeah🤘🤘so good spot on.
Cheers mate. Yeah, Harris has some amazing basslines on the Killers album ;)
Wow!!! Definitely the best out there. I was starting to believe no one can hear the intricacy, difficulty and speed in those last 3 riffs in the last verse but there you go , you’re playing it flawlessly. Freakin awesome man !
Thank you very much mate :)
This song is one that you really need to warm up your hands up before attempting. If you are not properly warmed up your hand will cramp or and tendons will become stiffened. Steven never made his bass parts exceedingly hard, but his technique can take years to perfect. I know, I've been trying for 34 years now. LOL
The glory of Iron Maiden dwells in those bass notes, which add melancholy to their most kvltik songs BUT this magick song is 70% bass. Great cover by the way.
Nice Bass, Nice tone, Nice play
Nice comment! Thank you :)
I watch all your iron Maiden videos n struggle to keep up n I love every minute of it
Wow! Thank you so much, I really really appreciate it :)
I love love love your bass. I've been trying to get one but all they have these days is his white signature P-bass with the West Ham crest on it, which is garbage. A heavy unplayable block. If anyone has an idea of how to get this beautiful blue Made in Japan version, please let me know.
Yeah I agree, the blue version has better hardware as well as looking nicer to me. The blue one brings back all my memories why I started learning bass in the first place. Best suggestion is to try ebay etc ;)
Phenomenal playing. You captured Steve Harris' playing and feel perfectly
Thanks you mate, so glad you enjoyed watching :)
Fraco
Muito fraco
Did you get to meet Steve?
Nah, I didn't hang around, I had work the next day. Met him and got some vinyls signed back in 1986 though on the original Somewhere in Time Tour :)
Excellent,you nailed it dude.👌
Iron maiden with Paul DiAnno was so different from iron maiden with Bruce Dickinson
Absolutely, but I like both :) Thanks for watching mate
Impresionante
Hey Welsh man! Is any of that improvised? I noticed the choppy part at 3:17 was that intentional or a flub? Asking cause I am learning the whole song using your video.
Sorry for the delayed response! Yeah at 3.17 I was meant to play 4, hammer to 5, slide to 7 (on the D) but was not very smooth! Well spotted lol
@@welshphantom8964 That's ok I was listening to the song in the dark and I heard it. Yours is the best one up beating out Jeff Monaco's cover because you got that part right while he missed it completely. I thin it's less choppy tho. I just put mine up. ua-cam.com/video/d2P9IIjIWq8/v-deo.html
Wow your Rush is just as good as your maiden!
Thank you SV :)
Do you give bass lessons bc you are damn good
He totally nailed it!
Thank you mate :)
You just showed me how to play a fantastic song. I've almost got it down all the way. I'm 57, self taught and having fun. My other favourite band is Thin Lizzy. Thanks!
Thanks for watching mate and glad it helped. Yeah I am a big Lizzy and Lynott fan also! \m/
Good cover, great bass lines, félicitations 👍
Thank you mate! :)
I love how much the bass shines on this song. You can here it so clearly
Nice playing, nice choice for inspiration and nice choice of a "B side" Maiden song. Bless you.
Thanks mate :)
👊
Thanks I have learned these songs from your videos and have had a lot of fun playing them.
Great reaction but you should listen to the song instead of cutting it off all the time. Bruce held 3 long notes and as a vocal coach you should have addressed them but you were more focused on how much you talk.👎
Eh? Vocal coach?
very impressive. Lots to memorize
Thanks mate. Yeah, the early Harris basslines were technical \m/
SCREAM FOR ME LONG BEACH!!!!!
I loved it. Nice work!
Steve Harris it's a beast on de bass, great cover bro!
Awesome Cover. You really nailed it...!!!
Thank you very much! ;)
@@welshphantom8964 fuck, you're still alive! I'm relieved!
Hi. What strings and pedals are you using ? Thanks.
Hi Nuno. Strings are Rotosound Steve Harris flatwounds. I am playing through a Sansamp Programmable Bass Driver for the tone. Hope that helps and thanks for watching ;)
Hello!!! what song key is this song?
Really good!
Thank you :)
Great job! I'm trying to learn this song, this is so crazy and tough bass line. Greetings!
Thanks mate. Yes, I found this one tricky too.... probably would struggle to play it after so long!
Opening youtube and seeing you uploaded a new video is a great surprise! I remember watching your Iron Maiden covers even on your old channel that got taken down so your uploads always bring up memories from the old youtube days :D Hope you're doing well mate!
Those bass covers were epic
Hi Mario. Yeah I am all good thanks. I actually uploaded this a couple of years ago but didn't realise it was marked as private until yesterday ha ha. It was only to get gigs, so I just used to send the link to pubs etc. I intended to finish doing the Powerslave covers after my back healed, but never got around to it. I picked up my Steve Harris Bass last week for the first time in a couple of years and realised it needs a full set up. I have a version of Powerslave and Rime on my computer but the mix was off so I wanted to redo them. I had loads of songs to learn for a covers band and also a DIO tribute I was in so it got put on the back burner. Thanks for watching and I hope you are well :)
@@evans5172 Thank you very much mate, I assumed everyone forgot about them! :)
@@welshphantom8964 not at all fella
killer song great playing.
Thank you!
Excelente digitación!!! Hermoso bajo! Felicitaciones!!
Thank you!
This is so much harder than phantom of the opera. Idk how people say that’s the hardest maiden song
Phantom is def not the hardest Maiden song Duellists is pretty tough in places for sure. I would probably struggle now not having played it for a while.
Thank for a great cover. Top notch. Now I can get started to learn this killer song. BTW. Highly appreciate all your maiden covers. It has helped me a lot with all tricky fills. Feels like you really break it down correctly 💪🏼 Super well performance.
Cheers mate :)
Great cover. My favorite song of Iron Maiden.
Thank you :) Yes, a great song, full of atmosphere and a lovely bass line by Harris.
Good work! Thanks a lot!
Thank you very much mate :)
Awsome!
Thanks SV. Been so long since I watched this one.....totally forgotten how to play it lol
@@welshphantom8964 with few exceptions all my video covers I have done if called onto the stage witht the artists who recorded and then invited to play the song with them I'd not be able to do most fo them without brushing up.
Perfect !!!
