Synth lover, money spender, I play gear with my feet
SERGE Modular INORI // Making chords with Quadslope
Sometimes it's not about using ALL the patch points, going crazy on the modulations or whatnot.
A simple idea: INORI has 6 oscillators, even 7 if we count the filter, and today I wanted to use the Quadslope as a bank for chords.
What makes it quite lovely is the fact that the 1V/Oct goes only to the two left envelopes of the pairs, so chords are always accompanied by a droning voice.
The second oscillator of the PCO which can act as an LFO is going to the VCF frequency, and I am modulating by hand the frequency of the LFO and the amount of modulation of the filter.
The SQP4+ is criminally underutilized, but acts as a quick control over the chords, with A line going to the first pair of slopes and B going to the second one.
Sound quality is the most important aspect, and @serge-modular never disappoints.
Just a hint of @EventideAudio H90, for some simple (maybe subtle is better?) delay and reverb.
Now I just want to spend more time with this setup 🧡
Do you want to buy the synth you see in this video?
Perfect Circuit does not carry the 4U version, but you can now get the VC Resonant Equalizer in Eurorack form, minus the extra filter on the right!

SERGE Modular Siegfried (VC Resonant EQ) // Soundtrack for the end of the world
Переглядів 8462 місяці тому
Such a privilege to finally have a SERGE Modular (or Random Source?) Siegfried in my system. This is definitely just a first test, but I was immediately captured by its raw beauty, there is something that makes it feel alive. Yes, it could be the presence of VC (Voltage Control) in the name, so that I can use the 4 slopes on my INORI to modulate different bands (which actually behave more like ...
Meng Qi Wing Pinger + Eventide H90 // Shadows and Lights
Переглядів 6413 місяці тому
The Wing Pinger is not easy to process: it sports two outputs which are... double mono? Not really, and I will show you why soon in the upcoming tutorial (long in the making, I know). But that's also why I decided to keep one pedal, and that pedal is the H90, which allows for extensive customization of the inputs, and it's modular in its own way. I created this new preset for the Eventide H90, ...
Random Source Serge INORI + Chase Bliss Mood Mk2 // Pings & Drones
Переглядів 9085 місяців тому
Just a little xmas noodling with the INORI panel and the infamous Mood Mk2 by Chase Bliss. I wanted to try the pedal with the best-sounding synth I own, and the result was good enough to post, so here we are! A bit of sparkly pinging, and some good ol' drones (mostly because I don't have another panel, but also because the INORI is so good at producing them) Enjoy! Do you want to buy the synth ...
Buchla by TipTop // Buchla Serenade by the Lake

When I got invited to the amazing Buchla event held by @ModularWorld, I knew I had to do something special. So I went out and bought a power bank capable of powering my modular system, and I sat by my favourite lake, duetting with the birds around, the Buchla system and my OP1 Field. The system is fairly simple in its parts, but I am very proud of the deeper complexity I was able to reach in th...
SERGE Modular INORI & TKB // First study on the use as a synthetic clarinet
Переглядів 1,8 тис.7 місяців тому
Little snippet of my first exploration of the Pressure output from the Touch Activated Keyboard Sequencer (or TKB) and the INORI sound module, both from Random Source. I am using the filter as a VCA, running one oscillator through the legendary Wave Multiplier (the middle one), while using the top one as a VCA for the vibrato amount, given by the second oscillator used as an LFO. Very simple pa...
Meng Qi Wingie 2 & Synthstrom Deluge // The process IS the performance!
Переглядів 2 тис.7 місяців тому
The Wingie 2 by @MengQiMusic changed my musical approach (for good). It made me embrace the environmental noise, it made me start thinking a bit outside of the "synthesizers are for synthwave" box, and its portability, its cuteness, made me more willing to open up and breathe a bit more. It's hard to explain, but after getting a Wingie I started to reconsider microphones, I got an Arbhar, I got...
Meng Qi Wing Pinger & Chase Bliss Mood mk2 // Meditation through pings, an intimate process
Переглядів 5 тис.9 місяців тому
Playing with the Wing Pinger by @MengQiMusic is a meditative practice. 🪷 While it looks simple (and beautiful) on the outside, the balance required to achieve something to be proud of is considerable. That’s the reason why, even though I play frequently with this instrument, I rarely record with it, because it feels like being naked and vulnerable. The right output (the lower note) is going bac...
Neutral Labs Elmyra 2 - Drone Synthesizer // Demo, Tutorial and Opinions
Переглядів 7 тис.10 місяців тому
SUBTITLES AVAILABLE (in many languages!) I've had the lucky chance to be able to check out the Elmyra 2, by Neutral Labs. It has a very interesting approach to performance and sound building: it looks easy, but it can get way deeper than you think. After playing with it for a long while, I decided to offer you a tour of its functions, plus my (unrequested) opinions, all in this desktop configur...
Korg Monologue & Chase Bliss Mood Mk2 // End of the year!
Переглядів 3,6 тис.11 місяців тому
I got a bit emotional, with my internal (and external) Monologue, both the instrument and the thoughts. Plus, since 2023 has been very frustrating in all of its parts, even this video has been compromised by everything that could go wrong: dead batteries, bugs in the Mood (first time ever), the camera shut itself off in some other recordings, and so on. Two years ago I was playing with a $2000 ...
Instruo Arbhar & Lubadh // Everything started with a resonant filter!
Переглядів 2,7 тис.Рік тому
All did indeed start with a single ping from the Instruo I-o47, and then through the magic of recording many of them at different Lubadh's speeds... we got to this chirping forest of layers upon layers of magic! Arbhar came last, providing some substance under Lubadh (and the reverb too!), so I could easily tweak the two decks without having moments of silence. I left this going for hours, then...
Buchla TipTop + Strymon Starlab // More than just blipblops
Переглядів 8 тис.Рік тому
I wanted to be more regular with the uploads, but it turned out life always gets in the middle. But here we are: the most analog waves coming from the Buchla by TipTop Audio lineup crashing against the digital Strymon Starlab shore. The setup is comprised of a double 258t (oscillator), one of which is producing the chords you've heard at the beginning, while the other is on modulation duty. The...
Polyend Tracker // An undercover ambient machine
Переглядів 6 тис.Рік тому
I mean... it was on sale, how could I resist? First day with the Polyend Tracker: this jam came out spontaneously while browsing the manual and familiarizing with the instrument (and the manual was mostly to double check before clicking something that could have destroyed the whole project!). I've never used a tracker before, but everything came natural to me, with the modifiers, the lovely Fil...
Meng Qi Wing Pinger & OP1 Field // Welcome to my synthetic dojo
Переглядів 1,5 тис.Рік тому
I finally managed to bring the Wing Pinger to the new house, and as soon as I plugged it in, I remembered why I got it in the first place: its range from mellow, realistic birds, to harsh and complex territories, in a single twist of a knob. This time it can also make friends with the OP1 Field, acting as a recorder and FX for the Wing Pinger, in a somewhat small and portable experimental setup...
How to recreate the Hologram Microcosm in Eurorack (for just 10x the price)
Переглядів 2,2 тис.Рік тому
Do less with more! Wasn't that the saying? With this patch I wanted to recreate a simple two-voice setup, using two different sequencers but the same oscillator (the Instruo Cs-L), and then run them through a sort of Hologram Microcosm remade in eurorack. As for the PROs, a little tune at the beginning, then the patch demonstration/tutorial/patch breakdown/something else I don't remember, and t...

Huh?! 😅
Fantastic 🎶
Funny to read the description as I'm dumping my Sub37 in favor of Matriarch as well. Compared to it, Sub37 sounds like a toy. A profound one, but a toy nonetheless. Matriarch has everything I could ever dream of in terms of sound and even coordinates nicely with the modular combo of Mother32+DFAM+Subharmonicon if needed. Stay analog.
First demo that didn’t start off with random sounds. Actually really love the sounds u achieved and it sounds so dreamy
Nice work. I was looking for input on keeping my PRO3 or sell it... You got me playing my PRO3 for an hour in a completely new way :-) I'll stick to it for now. Thanks for the inspiration!
Very nice tutorial, thank you !
Thank you so much 🧡
Watching this in December 2024. Hoping that this year has been better for you... I enjoy watching your videos.
The "Elite" followers of Vlad's Dream. At least i find a user that is not afected by the "inner circle delirium" of Russian "R" in the depiction of the Synth. Vlad is a mastermind of Sovietical University heritage, grandson of Piskunov and the Cience Academy of the 60's. The problem i have with Soma users is their pedancy and "mystic mood" they express, while playing basic patches and sounds that, OK its Vlad's geniality, but why Mushroom talk when we are dealing with Harmonic Progressions of Pulses and Voltage. Interesting is that Russian users are accurate and objective, while Americans or British are to subjective in their reviews. Its like Vlad's deity, yes..."not for everybody not for everybody..." yes yes dude. Good Video 🧏😁🎛🎚🎹
Not just blipblops. Also bleeps!
Those are my favourite 😍
Hi awesome work is it possible to get this patch ? it will be really helpful to understand the modulations thks
Dont apologize for your accent, you are speaking better than most rural Americans.
🤮
lol
Now I want a Lyra8, too. So far I got the Soma Cosmos, which does a similar thing you describe under the video… it catches me for minutes or sometimes hours, no matter what I feed into it.
Thank you. I keep coming back.
Thanks for the great tutorial. I’ve also been reading the Lyra manual, especially interesting is the Vlad’s philosophy on the Lyra8 design, an important read.
The first chord hit me in the chest just like Berlinist soundtrack for GRIS 🖤 Looks like I need to take closer look on OpSix
best ever title ! abo !
With this new firmware can you switch between the blebpoo and resonator modes on the device ? I’m very tempted to pull the trigger on this little gem
Wow so nice. What is the sound source here?
Thank you a lot! I just sent a saw wave to excite the filter, but the result sound is 99.9% the Resonant EQ self-oscillating ☺️
Thanks! I return to this a lot. So you are just sending an enveloped saw tooth into the VCFX? What are you controlling with the keyboard pitch? I’m having a really hard time getting such beautiful sounds from my VC res eq. Any tips would be incredibly appreciated.
@@ritosuckerino6763 The sawtooth is mostly to excite the Resonant EQ's feedback on the verge of self-oscillating! The VCFX is mostly there to make it more "spacious" while taming some of the harshness. As for tips, I'd say that with the VC Res EQ is more important than ever to use ears before anything else: I've noticed different bands react differently to feedback, and at high levels they start to interact with each other, so any visual clue is quite useless, and it's a delicate act of balance done by ear. Careful with the feedback in general, I rarely go past 1 o'clock The keyboard is controlling the other sound (a flute sample) layered with the Serge output, sorry if that was misleading!
Great video! Thank you for the tutorial. Quick question, you mention that midi and sound are coming from the Digitakt; are we able to send just midi notes to the Wingie? Or does it need to be excited with sound?
Thank you a lot! It needs to be excited with sound, with white noise obviously being the best option! As for midi though, you can send a lot more than just the notes, and you are also able to independently address the two sides
Your playing is also great. Do you know who made these green patch cables? They're nice.
Thank you so much! They should be Nazca braided, but I'm not sure, since I got them as part of a trade :)
Very nice
Thank you so much 🧡
Ok this is fucking sick ❤
mr dexba did you coffee before this amazing record
Ahah, no I didn’t, I actually rarely drink coffee: I’m too lazy to make the moka for that tiny outcome 😄 Why this curious question?
So it’s a water synth pretty much
I admit my ignorance: what is a water synth?
This should be the video to watch as soon as you open the box and get a Lyra-8. When companies neglected to even explain how their products really work should be punished by not buying from them in the first place.
Huge compliment here, thank you so much! 🧡 Heh, I suppose with SOMA it's part of the allure, that aura of mystery around their instruments, but I don't like mysticism getting in the way of being able to become proficient with you piece of gear, so that's why I made this video. Also because just going full chaos is probably way too easy; fascinating for sure, but when everything is modulating everything, it's not like it is predictable what the outcome will be, so there is no real need for "control" ☺️
I just installed this firmware and plugged it into the trig inputs on a norddrum 2. Bliss! If you have a drum machine with a very dynamic response to the trigger signal, do yourself a favour and let the blippoo trigger it!
That's a great advice, thank you! I really need to try it :)
I forgot to mention that the most ”rhythmic” results are achieved at low rate and speed settings. And that I use the left output to trigger one drum sound and the right output to trigger another.
So beautiful!
Thank you so much 🧡
Man, you and that Serge... always pulling out some wild, unexpected sounds. Love how you just dive in and make it your own... no shortcuts, just pure creative grind. Keep pushing, it’s always a trip listening to what you come up with!
Honoured 🙏🏻 I love the clean slate feeling the Serge transmits, it kinda brings me back to the beginning of my synthesis journey, when everything was wonder: opening and closing a filter, discovering what a knob turn does, and so on. Thank you so much again, there will be a lot more to come 🧡
This is amazing. Are you using the resonant eq for anything?
Thank you so much! No, in this recording I didn't use it, but the previous one was all about the VC Res EQ! I wanted to keep it clear and intelligible, but now I am curious how chords sound like through the resonant eq ;)
Simple and beautiful. Simply beautiful.
These panels are making me rediscover the beauty of raw synthesis, building one step at a time, instead of chasing the fancy module that can do everything
Very noice.
Thank you so much 🧡
I'm looking at purchasing my first synth, and your patch here is exactly what I need. I'm intrigued by the Opsix as an ambient tool, but a bit intimidated for it to be my first synth. I'm also eyeballing the Minifreak as my first, but I keep coming back to this patch here. I want this sound. It's what I hear in my head. It is just so damn beautiful, and you do it incredible justice with your playing. As a noob, is it best to start with something like a minifreak to just get a basic footing underneath me?
FM and the way it is handled by the OpSix can indeed be a bit intimidating. Obviously, we are nowhere near the level of some older synths, like a DX7, but still, messing with the algorithms and the modulations (which are handled so-so here) as a new-comer to synths will be challenging, and ultimately probably frustrating. Minifreak is great, and it could provide you with two things: a more varied sonic palette, and a more thought-out interface, which never hurts. Having more range also means being able to keep it for longer and resist the urge of looking at other synths for other musical duties. If you are more into sequencing and less into keys, you could also consider the Elektron Digitone, which, especially if found used for the canonical $500, is A LOT of synth for the money, but I wouldn't say it is better or worse than the Minifreak, just a different approach to synthesizers. TL;DR - the Minifreak is an awesome starting synth, more than the OpSix ☺
@@Dexbathank you for your insight!
Mesmerizing..
It has something deep an magnetic to it 🧡
Love the sound, very soothing composition! Well done, thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for checking it out 🧡
Nice
Thank you!
hello from a fellow op1+serge phreak! sounds amazing. ❤
Before filming this I never even imagined how useful this combo could have been! Now it is probably here to stay, to layer Serge over Serge and maybe even some further sampling + easy and portable FX! Thank you for checking my video out 🧡
getting lost in listening too
If you want, you can even download it for free on Bandcamp, to take it with you 🧡 Thank you so much!

Honoured 🙏🏻
Love this!
Thank you so much 🧡
Very good thanks
Thank you for checking it out 🧡
very good jam👍
Thank you so much 🧡
Can yoh just plug this into an amp and play?
I admit I am not sure: most people always recommend using bass amps because guitar amps could break or something like that. I've honestly never dared to try, and in general, I'm always been more worried about not being able to hear properly the whole range of the instrument rather than breaking the amp
Hands down the best tutorial I found yet regarding tuning the Lyra! Love your approach and presenting style
My pleasure! I wish I could do more of these tutorials
Gonna need u to drop the download link 🙏🏽 a di da phat!
You're right! I need to get back my recordings at least on Bandcamp, and maybe some other streaming 🤙🏻
great video. loved the breakdowns
Thank you so much, I'm glad you liked it 🧡
Hey are you still planning to do a tutorial? Would love to know how to do this with mine
Check out Dexba's Pulsar filter tutorial for how to work this way 🙂
Great suggestion! Unfortunately, life got in the middle, and I had to sell the Pulsar, so that filter tutorial will (probably) be the last one I make on this beautiful instrument, but never say never 🧡
So tasty! Blippin' and a bloopin its way into my weird heart, lil Wingie 2 is! This demo is legit.
And it sounds SO good! People always talking about analog/digital/whatever, but wow
This was amazing. This side of the Pulsar 23 is seldom seen on UA-cam. The Pulsar 23 is capable of some serious beauty. It is incredible.
Thank you so much! I almost never used it as a drum machine (even though I bought it for that), and when I moved to a different country bringing almost only the Pulsar with me... I really had to get creative, and I am very pleased with the result of those explorations!
Gorgeous tones... excellent demo Dex !
Thank you so much! I would be curious to check the new Solar42f out, and see how it compares!
