- What a fantastic addition!
As a beautiful homage to Rob Hordijk's legacy, Meng Qi has just released a new firmware, featuring a recreation of the Blippoo Box.
It sounds incredible, it will provide hours of sonic exploration in the ultra-compact, battery-powered Wingie form factor, what could we ask for more?
Can't wait to see what other firmware will come for the Wingie platform!!!
In this video, you will find a bit of a demo and a rough tutorial.
Hope you'll find it useful! 🧡

Great sounding little black box, much bigger than meets the eye! Thanks for sharing!
Couldn't agree more!
Thank you for checking out my video 🧡
OK So I mapped the Blippoo to a 16 dial MIDI controller and that makes it a lot easier to play with than the buttons on the Wingie 2.....btw output is in stereo , that's cool, but one of the really best features is the ability to SAVE and RECALL presets....so explore until you find something nice and save it , explore some more and you can always get back to that previous sound , way to go MengQi!!!
EXACTLY! A lot of unexpected, super-welcome, goodness!
Way to go for real!
that sounds very interesting. So far I have only glanced at the device and find it a bit puzzling. Where do you guys find information on the midi mapping? How is the physical setup? Also @dexba where did you find the info on the knob functions? The manual of the device is rather limited in that respect.
Mind you, I respect MengQi's creative work and dedication very much but I do have a Blippoo myself and that interface is so much more intuitive!!
@@MrEarlabs I agree completely 😁And that's the exact reason why I decided to make this, and the previous video, about the Wingie 2!
The manual is super minimal, so I had to try to "reverse engineer" the instruction, comparing them with the Blippoo itself (which I don't own, so I hope I didn't go too far off) and, marginally, the Wing Pinger too, which borrows heavily from the Blippoo, as a concept at least.
All things considered, if you have the so-called real deal, it's definitely better in every aspect, especially the tactile interaction.
I am pretty sure that with a proper controller, the Wingie could get almost on the same level, but I see the whole project more as a love letter from Meng Qi to the engineer who inspired his work heavily, rather than even a marginally selling feature of the Wingie itself
@@Dexba I think you're right. It IS a love letter. I bought my Blippoo (And a Hordijk System) from mr. Hordijk himself and am completely dedicated to his legacy. I produced a compilation of Hordijk composition (released by Flag Day Records) and another one is coming up. But I degress. I think the Wingie 2 is a nice little pixie brother/sister for live performances with the Blippoo. And adding a midi controller (I have a midi fighter twister) would very much improve playability.
@@MrEarlabs the MIDI is documented pretty well on the firmware page and manuals , it only is 14 CC controllers, 1-14 ,There is a TouchOSC template you can see in action here

Fantastic!!!
Thank you so much 🧡
Oh my God, didn't see this coming, I couldn't be happier 😯😯😯
I also didn’t see it coming! And now I can’t stop thinking what else could come from the platform, especially considering the sound quality that came out of this rendition of the Blippoo!
Lovely! Reminds me a bit of the Bastl Softpop as well.
The Bastl Softpop seems great, when they had the super aggressive discounts a few months ago I was really, really tempted.
But boy, is it pricey! So I guess we are trading a bit of control for a cheaper price here, but the sound is great nevertheless 😁
what an awesome surprise! Christmas came late this year!
Couldn't agree more! Unexpected and more than welcome! ☺️
bonne démo _ merci pour cette vidéo
I am glad you've found it useful, thank you so much ☺
thank you. Your video made me buy a Wingie! So much fun te oxplore.
Do you know if there is a easy way to switch between the Blippoo mode and the original (resonator) firmware?
What an honour! 🧡 And yes, a lot of fun exploring it, with both firmware.
Unfortunately, I am not aware of any way to quickly switch between the two, and that's why I resorted to getting a second one 😁
That said, connecting it to the PC, the change is a double click away from any of the two FW, so I guess the only way to make it faster would be to add a sort of bootloader in the Wingie that lets you choose at the startup, but I suspect the hardware is not capable of this
I can't wait for some genius out there to make an overlay to help decode this
I thought I would forget and get lost, but after you memorize white - down, black - up, you’re almost ready to go!
Plus, the Blippoo itself is not really for precise explorations, so…
But yeah, if even just a third firmware comes out, some form of standardization or overlay will be kinda necessary 😄
Nice ring.are u married to Laura Palmer?
Ahah thank you a lot! And I've to watch Twin Peaks yet, so no spoilers 😁
I don't know if you should watch the movie fire walk with me first or the series.the movie was down after the series but takes place before the series.
@@jasonmcgary Watch them in the order they were made: Season 1+2, "Fire Walk With Me", then "Twin Peaks: The Missing Pieces" (important), finally Season 3.
