Teenage Engineering OP1 Field // Sound quality I can finally trust!

- Yes, no, overpriced toy, saviour of all the portable jams, we will probably never know (and to each their own opinion).
I got one, I was sceptical, because I already had four original OP1 in the past, and I was always tempted more by the idea, rather than any particular characteristic other than the portability.
The sound quality on the previous iteration was risible, the output used to hiss like a cat, it lacked dimension, character (other than being toyish) and practicality.
OP1 Field changes almost everything: it now features control over the quality of the tape and some other parameters, different projects we can save and recall, and sound quality is now at least up to par the job of not sounding like the Casio common ancestor, the new Mother Reverb sounds like a reverb and the Spring has become useful! WOW, and I am not sarcastic.
I would have never imagined a jam on my huge speakers with the previous OP1, and now here I am, with one track of the new Dimension analogue-ish synth through the cow (yes!) and the other three tracks coming from Strings, with an increasing number of overdubbing, always through the Grid effect.
Yes, it still lacks some features (I am not talking about the Undo, but for example the possibility of recording on tape while recording the master: it would have been handy to push the overdubbing even further), and the maximum sample length is a bit... old school, but I am so happy I can finally welcome an instrument I won't sell out of frustration in a matter of weeks 🧡

Sounds absolutely incredible! I'd grab one immediately if I could afford it!!!
Thank you so much 🧡
It wasn't an easy purchase, and not even an immediate one, but when the occasion arose... eheh
more op1-field videos please! Would also love tutorials on how you composed tracks such as these on the Op1-field!
There will be definitely more to come!
In the meantime, this track was made with 4 tracks, one of bass, coming from Dimension, and another 3 of Strings.
All the three Strings lines have the same base, but then the second gets light overdubs after 8 bars, the third gets more overdubs after 16 bars, and the fourth gets a lot of overdubs after 24 bars, for an increased tension (both in the total amount of Strings and amount of overdubs per track, getting more and more intense).
In the future tutorials will come for sure, and if you have any question or idea, I will gladly cover it in a future video 🧡
yes please do tutorials especially showing your overdub process as I do not fully understand it (but hear the builiding tension which is awesome)
@@Dexba where are the strings coming from?
@@NealCaen the strings are coming from the internal engine, named appropriately Strings :)
I enjoyed this very much. Will watch/listen many more times! Lovely! Cheers from Long Beach, California!
I'm glad you enjoyed it, thank you so much!
Cheers back from Trento, Italy 🇮🇹
Beautiful song!
Thank you a lot!
Damn this is stunning..!
Thank you so much 🧡
Subscribed in hope for more op1f vids:)
Thank you a lot! 🧡
There will be more for sure, especially in the near future, since most of my other instruments are going back into the boxes while I renovate the house.
OP1 will keep me company in the process ;)
Nice clean setup 👌🎼 beautiful mood.
Thank you so much for checking it out 🧡
here we go again.. with another reason to love op-1 field :D
Humbled! But don't you dare tempt me again with Ciat Lonbarde stuff, or I will be broke before the next video 😁
I already hit the 👍 button before watching it 😍
Thank you so much for your constant support, I mean it 🧡
Bellissima Giorgio ❤
Ti ringrazio moltissimo 🧡🧡🧡
Beautiful! What is this sound system? 😮
Thank you a lot! 🧡
The speakers are KEF Q, but I have no idea about the specific model (I got them from my father, and he got them in the 80s, he wanted to throw them away, so I now use them as TV speakers 😁)
The amplifier is an Audiolab 8000A, same story as with the speakers!
bellissima!!
Grazie mille! Mi ha ipnotizzato, mi fa sempre piacere condividere questi momenti
Wow! That's sounds huge and really high fidelity. Did you add any post production? I can't believe that that is the sound of the OP1 field only.
Absolutely no post production, and that was actually my main goal: it would have been so much simpler to take out the stems and put together this, without the fiddling with resampling, overdubs, EQing everything and the final gainstaging to mess with the sound (in a positive way)!
And yeah, finally some audio quality from the OP1! FINALLY
