How to make a whiskey barrel into a drinks cabinet (WITH FIRE!)
Here i am using my woodworking skills and power tools to make a whiskey barrel into a drinks cabinet. This will be cut open with an angle grinder and jigsaw and held together with wood screws. I will show how to cut and install circular shelfs and tops. These can be made with double doors and hinges but these will be left with an open front.

These hardwood double doors with glass are crafted in Sapele (hardwood). The styles and rails are shaped on the Wadkin EQ shaper (spindle moulder). I will show how to join double doors, with the Festool df500 in part 2.

I restored this French polish by applying methylated spirits and lighting it, to soften the French polish and allow the water, that was trapped under the surface to escape
How to turn a £200 fire door into a £2,000 Bespoke Oak door
Переглядів 9747 місяців тому
In this video I take a £200 fire door blank and turn it into a £2,000 Bespoke door. I used my Festool track saw to cut the door and the Festool ks60E mitre saw to cut 4mm Oak veneered MDF for the styles and rails. I veneered the panels with 0.5mm paper back Oak veneer. I think you will agree that the outcome is stunning! (Well at least in my opinion).

I was asked to design and craft a bookcase, based around this whisky barrel chair. I constructed it in Tulip wood and stained it to give a deeper tone to the finished piece.

Precious antique wine cooler restoration
This is EXACTLY what im looking to build gor my office!
If I can assist in any way, let me know.
Could you cut the top arch by using a router, instead of cutting on Bandsaw? Great video !
I'm confused, where are the two coats? Title literally says two coats and you put down one coat. Why are you wasting our time? I need to know the time between the first coat and second. Yes, I know it's monocoat, but for walnut to look great you really need two. My search continues...
What did you say??!!! HAHAHAHA Great video. This was pretty cool
Very cool, I was just talking with a coworker about this very thing!
Just tried this on my coffee table and now you owe me a new house 🔥
😂😂
That's so rock and roll
Thank you Colin, it’s a great piece of kit. I would be loath to without it. Please subscribe to the channel, I have much more tips and tricks to share 😊
Beautiful work. I've seen multiple videos use the Festool dominoes but before today I had never seen it! Pretty sweet.
Thank you for your positive comments David 😊
I'm a big fan of cherrywood and these are great tops. I have made a few tables in cherrywood and finished them with Danish oil but I will now give Rubio a try as it looks even easier to apply.
Hi David, I love working with Cherry. The finish on it is amazing. Rubio mono coat is a far superior finish to Danish oil. It lasts longer and repels water. I would apply two coats to get the maximum durability. Let me know how you get on with it.
A great no nonsense video of how to use Rubio and get great results. Thats a lovely cherrywood table top - I'm heading over to your video on making the table now. Great job!!!!
Hi thank you for your comment. The video was in English (with a Scottish accent right enough).
I thought this was going to be in English. I watched the video anyway.😂 Very good work.
Not for use on varnish.
A-MA-ZING!!! What product was it that applied B4 setting the top aflame to burn off the old varnish? 👍
Hi Debra, I used methylated spirits, this softens the French polish . The fire softens it further and releases any trapped moisture under the surface. I then rubbed it with vey fine wire wool to spread the polish and restore the surface. I then applied a few coats of French polish to bring the sheen back and protect the wood.
Nice work again brother
Thanks again Mathew
What is the name of the oak you was using in another video? It was all laminated together?
Hi Davy, it was engineered clear faced Oak. I use it to make doors as it is more stable than solid Oak.
Kids, don't try this at home
Bro nice videos but please please fix your volume it's really frustrating to try extremely hard to hear you.
Working on it
@@breakthemouldfurniture VLC Media Player is free, and easy to use. You fix your audio, then import it back into the video.
Love your Scottish accent!
Absolutely brilliant mate..
Thanks John
Should have a disclaimer not to try this at home
Maybe he’s trying to weed out the dumb ones hahah😂
This is too much work for millennials so no need for a disclaimer
Magical
Damn! There’s no way i could sit there, there’s barely any legroom!
Thx for the video! Maybe next time do a close up before and after of the marks you wanted to remove with the fire
❤❤❤
This is what we have been looking for as well. great job!
How do you attach the glass?
I use a glazing tape, which is a double sided self adhesive tape made for fitting glass.
Thank you so much for posting this video, I have been wanting to build an arched entry door for my self built cottage. Which type of hardwood did you use to make this wicked pretty door?
Hi thank you for your kind comment. I used Sapele for this door. It’s a very dense hardwood that will last a life time.
@@breakthemouldfurniture Oh thank you for responding, I will have to look that wood species up. Have a great weekend!
I am cutting down an old door to make an arched door and looking for best way to build door jamb

Well….TBH….I’d be furious if I had paid for this “restoration”. That is a very bad patch job; not a restoration. It’s mostly wax, fillers, and glue. The new piece doesn’t even match the other pieces. It would have been faster, easier, and way more appealing if you had just replaced the entire top. Maybe the customer wanted to retain all the regular pieces? Sorry, Dude.
This is probably one of the worst restoration videos I've seen. :D
Georgian wine cooler needs careful renovation to keep its value. Crotch mahogany and French polish!
Have to love a ultra sharp chisel!!
There’s nothing better than when they are freshly sharpened !
Hi, I agree with you on the size of the power feeder that it is a bit small. But you can make it work. I noticed that you have all 3 wheels behind the knife and you have to much down pressure on the piece being fed. Lesson the down pressure and move the power feeder forward where your first wheel picks up the piece being fed prior to the knife. Also angle your power feeder so that it pulls the piece into the fence as it is being run. Power feed rollers can be bought that have a better grip that what is provided from the manufacturer. Reach out if you need any help. Thanks for your videos,
Thanks for the advice, I will give that a go and see how I get on. Great tip on new wheels, the ones on the machine don’t have enough grip.
@@breakthemouldfurniture Thanks for the reply, I forgot to also mention and I do not know if you have tried this already. Clean and waxing your table top and fence prior to using the shaper will also do wonders to sticky wood. Its all about friction and lessoning the effects that friction creates to get the piece to run smoothly. I am trying to remember but I use PETG plastic on my fences. Very low friction material.
A true divided lite arched top door in a jamb! Has to be one of the most difficult doors to build. Watching this video was total enjoyment to me cause this is exactly the way I build mine as well. I have been building doors and shutters for 30 years and you are a true craftsman. Thanks for the video!
Thank you, they are a challenge but I always enjoy curved work.
Sadly, it looks as though you have a long way to go! Please, I beg you, watch some veneer repair videos, before you load any more of your own attempts!
snot and finger 😏
Clamps would really help on the veneers!
Thanks, I might give that a go next time.
@@breakthemouldfurniture no disrespect, one craftsman to another, I appreciate your skills!
Thank you, I don’t do a lot of restoration work these days, but I do enjoy it.
Hmmm...
was it not to short?
Great shots of the elbow not so much of the restoration.
Wow the driver did well to get the telehandler in there. Congratulations on a fantastic buy. One of these best spindle moulders made👌👌
He certainly did. The spindle is different class, it has made such a difference to my work.
Great content, keep up the good work
Thank you Frank
This was not a good job. Looks kind of tinkerish. And the choice of veneer wasn't too great either.
Good job 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Should have moved the camera. Couldn't see too much over your shoulder
Very nice.
Amazing! Thanks for sharing !👍
Thank you 😊
