Conan is what got me interested in comics. Great all around stories that are unique.
❤❤❤❤❤
It shows the only story you read was the first one. Should have read all the book because those other stories are just as good or better, no doubt.
Thanks for the add
☺️
I think you would like Gary Gianni! He also does highly detailed black and white art.
Omnibus editions are so tempting! I used to wait and get the Walking Dead ones. Big regret when moving house 😂 great review
Thanks for watching and commenting, Pugwall! Those Walking Dead books are beautifully put together. A fantastic series, overall.
I love how you guys share your love of comics and go for some ones I need reminding of or have never heard of! It’s really appreciated.
Thank you so much for your kind comment, Pugwall! We're trying to strike a balance between the more obscure comics versus the more mainstream ones. For example, we've showcased superhero comics but also books from smaller publishers as well. I'd like to continue that trend for as long as possible.
That "cocky" forward by Stan Lee, was par for the course. Stan was a shameless promoter, and like most promoters he inflates the brand. Nothing new there. Most of us, back in the day, just brushed that stuff off as "Stan" being "Stan" and were more interested in the stories and art... not Stan. Excelsior. That 3 pager of the TV - is a "Cold War Era" event. In the case of the Nuclear Attack the Emergency Broadcast System would be televised nation wide. That "eeeeeee" across the page is the warning sound that goes with the Emergency Broadcast when televised and the spread is the devastation of the Nuc.
Thanks for watching and commenting! In Lauren's case, Stan's personality is very new to her as she's never read any of the Marvel Comics that he wrote (including the Bullpen Bulletins). However, she did very much enjoy his Silver Surfer story (that she read after his introduction). I love the Epic magazines and I hope to have more reviews in the future (Marianna reviewed issue 2 in a prior video).
@@toddchristian7555 I was a total fan of "Epic" - Unlike Most other "mature" comic magazines, the sex and violence was not what defined it as mature, content and context where the order of the day, with top tier talent. I remember that Epic actually got a little shade from the Heavy Metal fans as Heavy Metal "Light". I just thought of it as the kind of mature stories that Heavy Metal wouldn't do, cause part of their schtick was kind of "soft core" pieces and without that component Heavy Metal wouldn't be so interested in it. It was nice to see an outlet for mature work that wasn't so beholding to that low hangin fruit all the time. By the way, I wasn't doing anything put pointing out to her that all that "Stan Bravado" was part of the Stan package. It was interesting to see youth engaged with media of the past.
@@totallytomanimation I absolutely agree with you about EPIC being superior to HEAVY METAL. The stories in EPIC were just more interesting overall. Like you mentioned, EPIC didn't have the limitations of HEAVY METAL, with its focus on "soft core" content, and was more experimental as a result of that. Just wish that EPIC lasted a lot longer than it did. As to your second point, You pretty much summed up why I created this channel. I want to put these comics and magazines in the hands of those that wouldn't normally read them (or are even aware of their existence). Yes, I do focus on mainstream superhero comics as well. However, in the future, you'll see more issues of EPIC being spotlighted (as well as comics from Eclipse and Pacific).
@@toddchristian7555 I wish they'd print a hardbound archive collection of all the Epic issues, like they did Creepy and Eerie.
@@toddchristian7555 omg... how prude... neither was Heavy Metal a softcore mag nor was epic illustrated superior. The opposite is true, Heavy Metal had the superior stories and also the artists were better. You had Corben there, a matured Frazetta, Enki Bilal, Moebius, Giger, Druillet.... Epic was lame compared to Heavy Metal. I was disappointed to see how limited the art and how average the stories of epic illustrated were. It wasn't even a "Heavy Metal Lite", it was just indecisive and boring, nothing anarchical in it. It must have been because of the same personnel that produced Marvel superheroes. Just like Elvis didn't dig Heavy Metal music. Everyone loves Elvis, but for god's sake, don't let Elvis try to sound like Deep Purple. It only would lead to an epic desaster.
Great analysis! Cool comic! I’m gonna put it on my to be read list. That art is awesome. Tim Sale is one of my favorite artists. I love his art on Batman: Dark Victory. I have a Dark Victory vid on my channel. Cavalier seems like an interesting character. Have a super day ✨✨✨✨✨
Thanks for watching and commenting, max! I definitely agree with you about Tim Sale. He's one of my favorite artists as well. He had such a unique and distinctive style. Speaking of Dark Victory, I'm probably one of the few but I prefer DV to The Long Halloween. The storyline was more appealing and I liked the inclusion of Robin (especially with how Sale drew the character).

great video, i checked out your channel do you guys work at like a comic book store? interesting stuff!
Thanks for checking out the channel and commenting! We don't work at a comic book store and filming actually takes place in a library (for a variety of reasons). That being said, we actually have a sizable comic collection. So, if there's a character or series you want to see spotlighted, let us know!
Great analysis! I’ll put this series on my tbr. I haven’t read any Kyle stories. Ron Marz is awesome. He wrote some great Witchblade comics. Nathan Fillion is playing Guy Gardner in the upcoming Superman movie. And Mr. Terrific is in it. Photos are online. I show Green Lantern with Scooby Doo in my latest vid lol! Have a super weekend ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
Thanks for watching and commenting, max! I'm a big fan of Ron Marz's writing, particularly on GREEN LANTERN. He did a great job developing Kyle's personality. I saw those photos of Guy and Mr. Terrific (their costumes look fantastic). I'm actually really excited for James Gunn's take on Superman. Green Lantern and Scooby Doo is a very unique combo. I'm going to check it out!
See hulk age of monsters by nick klein is top the return of incredible hulk savage ❤

@@toddchristian7555 good weekend for you and hulk age of monsters is the strongest there is
Great analysis! I’ll put this series on my tbr list. Thats cool that it deals with real world issues. I want to read his Starman and Earth 2 comics. I love his Wonder Woman volume: Children of the Gods. I showed it in my Wonder Woman Rocks video. I remember enjoying his Spider Man Family Business and Shade comics. Have a super day 👍🏻✨✨✨✨✨
Thanks for watching and commenting, max! Robinson's STARMAN is one of the best comic series I've ever read. The writing, along with the artwork by Tony Harris, is the pinnacle of superhero runs (along with Moore's SWAMP THING). I read some of his EARTH 2 but I've always meant to finish it (I liked what I read, however). Robinson's SHADE series is also excellent and a perfect companion to his STARMAN run.
i love this issue
Thanks for commenting, bexiexz! I agree that this was a fantastic issue. Besides the ALMURIC story, I also really enjoyed Jim Starlin's METAMORPHOSIS ODYSSEY (really incredible artwork in that story).
@@toddchristian7555 ❤❤
Great review! Unique and cool artwork! Wow 1980. At first, I thought it was probably around 1990. Wow P Craig Russell! I love his work on the recent Norse Mythology series. Roy is great! I’m on Team Roy concerning the creation of Wolverine. Facebook has been on fire for weeks about Wolvie’s creation lol! Mark Waid and others are saying Roy is stealing credit. But Roy literally said: “guys, create a character from Canada called Wolverine. Make him very short. And fierce.” He co created Wolverine!
Thanks for watching and commenting, max! Very much appreciated! I absolutely agree with you on Russell's Norse Mythology. Very beautiful work. I also agree with you on the Roy Thomas Wolverine situation. Everything I've read on the creation of Wolverine points to Roy being heavily involved. He deserves to be listed as co creator. Speaking of Roy, I love his work on Conan (one of my favorite runs in comics).
What a great take on the devastation of Hulk’s actions - I see that incisive analysis clearly run in the family.
Thanks for watching and commenting, Pugwall! BANNER is an excellent mini-series and well worth checking out (if you can find them out in the wild). The series was reprinted in the HULK: DOGS OF WAR hardcover (think it might be out of print, though). I'm actually not related to Ashley but thanks for the compliment! Actually, Ashley is part of the "guest host" format I utilize on my channel.
Great analysis of this cool issue! I’ll look for the Startling Stories comics. Corben was a great artist. I love Azzarello’s writing on Joker, Moonshine, Batman: Damned, and Wonder Woman. I read some of Punisher Max. That was great. I want to read some Nick Fury Max. Have a super day 👍🏻✨✨✨✨✨
Thanks for watching and commenting, max! I'm with you on Corben. He was such a talented artist with such an unique style. I need to read BATMAN: DAMNED but I loved his WONDER WOMAN run (made some very interesting changes to the character). The MAX line was great in the early 2000s. The imprint put out a lot of interesting books.

Great analysis! I’ll see if I can find a collected edition of this series. I love Bruce Jones’ writing on Ka-Zar 1-27. Bernie Wrightson was awesome! He and Barry Windsor Smith had The Studio in a loft in Chelsea. And Frank Miller and Butch Guice had a studio in Chelsea. I moved into a loft in Chelsea when I was 14. I’m trying to find out if I lived in the building that they were in. That would be cool. But no one seems to know exactly which building they were in. Bernie did great work on Swamp Thing and Frankenstein. Have a super weekend 👍🏻✨✨✨✨✨✨
Thanks for watching and commenting, max! I need to check out Bruce Jones' work on Ka-Zar. I loved his writing on the Hulk but I never got the chance to check out Ka-Zar. I know there's an omnibus of his Ka-Zar run so I'm definitely going to pick that up soon. That's awesome about the loft in Chelsea. It's amazing that all of these legendary artists worked so closely together. And I agree about Wrightson's work on Swamp Thing and Frankenstein. One of the greatest artists ever to grace the comics medium.
Great review! That art looks very cool. I’ll put that comic on my tbr list. I’ve heard of Epic. Cool info. I love EC reprints. William Gaines! I recently enjoyed Hellraiser 8, starring Henry Cavill. Fantastic movie. And I recently enjoyed Pumpkinhead 3 and 4. Have a super day 👍🏻✨✨✨✨✨
Thanks for watching and commenting, max! I'm with you on the EC Comics reprints. I've actually been rereading them the last few months. William Gaines and Al Feldstein were an awesome writing team! The Hellraiser comics, from Epic, are fantastic! I Most of the series contained short stories so each issue is very accessible to new readers (Neil Gaiman even wrote a story for the comic). I still need to see Hellraiser 8 but I've heard good things about it. The Pumpkinhead franchise is a guilty pleasure of mine.
Good review !!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Good review! I’ll put that book on my tbr list. It sounds good. And the artwork looks awesome. Lex is a great character. Gene Hackman was brilliant and unnerving! I’m going to read more Otto Binder Superman stories. Otto wrote some kooky ones. Krypton is on Tubi now btw. Great show. Tubi is free. Have a super weekend 👍🏻✨✨✨✨✨
I agree with you on Gene Hackman! He was a great Luthor and really tapped into the sinister nature of the character. Those Otto Binder stories are a lot of fun, max! I've never seen Krypton but I plan on checking it out (looks very intriguing). Thanks for watching and commenting!

The 80's... The time of the hippies
I agree with you. Lauren made an inaccurate statement. That's one of the reasons why this channel is going in a new direction starting in the new year
@@toddchristian7555 it's an understandable mixup. She's not a million years old ... Like... Me...
That statement was both charming and funny.
📼😎📼 you did Great Review👍I like Spawn comics & the 90s film 🎬 need new Spawn movie🎥
Thanks for watching and commenting, Matthew! I actually think the 97 SPAWN film is under rated. It's a lot of fun. With that being said, I do prefer a more horror take on Spawn. There's actually a new Spawn movie in the works. Blumhouse Productions announced they're planning a new feature film (with Jamie Foxx set to star as Spawn).
Great overview and analysis by Lauren! I hope Todd makes a cool Spawn movie. He said he’s currently working on the script. My real name is Todd McGorry. One day, the worker at the library was like: your name is like that comics dude! Lol. Image is awesome. No editors! I’m staying independent, just like them. I’m currently writing a comic starring my original characters The Mystical Gumshoes. Happy Halloween to you and yours! 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃👍🏻🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇
That's a funny story, max. Lol. Todd McFarlane is one of those creators that's so well known that he almost represents the medium itself (Stan Lee and Alan Moore are two other examples). I'm also a big fan of Image. I love the 90s superhero stuff but I also really enjoy the current titles at Image. That's awesome about your creator-owned comic, max! Keep me informed about it when it's close to getting published, I want to check it out! Thanks for always commenting and supporting the channel! It's much appreciated! Happy Halloween!
Great analysis! I’m gonna look for this comic. I didn’t know Moore did some Spawn. I’m not a fan of all of Todd’s art, but that art looks great. Have a super day 👍✨✨✨✨✨✨
Thanks for watching and commenting, max! Yeah, Moore wrote a couple of issues of SPAWN in the early 90s. He also wrote a SPAWN/WILDC.A.T.S. crossover. I agree with you that Todd's artwork on this issue of SPAWN is phenomenal!
Alan Moore did Spawn?! I didn't know 😅
yea same. gotta check it out
This was my reaction too
Good analysis of the artwork! Very interesting! I’ve read a few Epic issues. Stan definitely had a lot of confidence and bravado. I met him at a comic store in NYC. His personality was epic! I almost fainted when I went up to him lol. There’s an extraordinary Stan autobiography with great art by Colleen Doran. Have a super weekend ✨✨✨✨✨✨
Thanks for watching and commenting, max! I agree with you 100% on Stan's personality. He was definitely confident in his own abilities. That personality trait of his served him well when he was promoting Marvel to the media. That's awesome that you got to meet him! I'm definitely going to check out that Stan Lee biography (Doran is one of my favorite artists).
Awesome 👌 ❤ Let's go 😂😂😂

She did a good job with the review! Tom King can be awesome sometimes! And there’s so much great art in comics. I mostly buy collected editions these days. I was a teaching assistant, and a lot of the students read collected editions from the public library. I popped over from Sean’s channel ✨✨✨✨✨✨
Tom King is definitely an interesting writer. I loved his work on VISION and BATMAN/CATWOMAN but I'm lukewarm on the rest of his work. However, I really enjoyed the first two issues of BRAVE AND THE BOLD. I also very much agree with you on the artwork quality in comics. A lot of great artists working in the medium. As for collected editions, I'm definitely an omnibus guy. That's great to hear about the students at your school reading collected editions! Very cool that you popped over from Sean's channel. Sean has a great channel, love his horror film hauls and watchalongs. Thanks for watching and commenting!
