This makes me feel better, i've got some ash growing, and I was worried they were growing too slow
Trying this again for the 2nd year. Had zero results last time. So im hoping for the best. Today i separated the seeds in bags with soil and put them in fridge. I made sure air was squeezed out. Does it matter if bags are flat, laying down or standing ? Any other tips you can give me?
Thank you for this generous video! What type of dirt is in the stratification bag? Is it soil or turf? 🧐
It's probably a stupid question :) I cannot think of a reason why put turf into a fridge. Am I correct? :)
I don’t know what got into me but I’m obsessed with gather as many oak acorn types as possible. Ready to start planting
Hi i started my acorns last nov started them in the fridge in moist vermiculite worked fine i grew them inside under a led plant light until april then put them in a pot and put outside now there about a foot tall.
Hi, I have black walnut seedlings like what you have in your video. I live in Ontario Canada and trying to figure out what to do with them for the winter. Should I keep them in pots in my greenhouse over the winter, or should I wait a little bkt further into the fall and early winter and transplant them into the ground to their permanent location?
Hi thanks so much for the video can I wrap the acorns in a moist paper towel and get the same effect as the moist soil?
Super !!!
I’m starting about 20 Mexican white oaks today
Thank you so much for this video and info. I’ve planted some white oak trees acorns and didn’t see anything for a month and thought to throw them away. Now I’ll wait . ❤
How much did you water them during that first 2 weeks?
Thanks! Keeping a tree and plant super basic personal materia medica (herbalism notebook) plus I just want to be able to identify the trees (used to think the pointed leaves of the Red Oak was a freaking maple 🫣). When I have my own home I want to plant oak trees and other trees so I'll add this lesson to the notebook.
I live in the Baltics and our city was built out of the pine and birch forest to support a nuclear power station (2). No Chernobyl just 307, 9 billion kWh of fossil fuel-less electricity. There are many red oak trees planted along the streets but very few white oaks and they all suffer from a fungus growth on the trunks. I want to gathers acorns this year (it is the good year of production) and after they sprout like the video beginning I wish to transplant them into a gash in the forest that was never replanted with pine. I don't have many years left but I hope my grandkids will one day visit my work.
What’s the soil mix you use for potting trees from seed? Almost looks like there are some wood chips mixed in at the top.
What do you do with the plants in the winter? Do you take them inside and under a grow light for the first year or two?
I grew a black walnut tree in Edmonton, Alberta from a nut I picked up on the ground in Manitoba in 1991. The tree grew quickly and 30 years later it is well over 30 feet tall. Zone 3.
Can I plant a green acorn? Or do they have to be brown?
white oak are the easy ones, you dont have to do anything just plant them. the red oak varieties are the tricky ones
Yo did you ever make an update. I got 500 of these on some property myself for two years now and was wondering how others have fared.
I was just curious whether this tree can grow in my place which has a tropical climate, and it has been proven that by sowing ginkgo seeds it can grow well, although slowly. Now in care of its growth.
You didn't soak them long enough.
Bad practices
What exactly do i need in my dirt? Is regular dirt and miracle grow ok?
I was told they don't grow well from seed. I'm glad I found your video. How long r the seeds good for. I have had mine since the end of last season.
Way to stick with it and not give up as I’m sure it was tempting to do.. thanks so much for the video helped me id the fruit
Can we grow Oak in Moderate climates? If yes then which variety. Please help. I am planning to plant Oak in Goa, India.
i like silver maples, i planted several seeds in pots this spring and they came up so fast! they are about a foot tall now...gotta figure out where im gonna plant them!
I collected them and stripped them and froze them. They won’t grow now. What did I do wrong?
Silver maples are weak trees. I curse the person who let this tree grow to 70+ feet tall. Such a nightmare three seasons out of four. I can't believe anyone would purposely grow these trees, especially if you have a choice!
I know they have a tap root. I plan on planting some. The Burr is in our area.
Great video. Thank you for sharing.🎉
Need the next steps to growing it.
I wonder can this tree be planted in a hot country like Philippines
What type of trees are the ones in the end pf the video i have some that just randomly started growing and couldn’t tell what they were
I actually found one in my pot a couple weeks ago because I pulled out my hydrangea tree because it had no leaves on it. Now I know why. A squirrel must have planted that nut.
How do you best transplant them
Adding garden lime to the soil will make ginkgos grow faster
Very interesting. More professional if you would eliminate the word "guys" from your presentation, as well as the phrase "go ahead and..."
What to use if I don't have peat.moss? Will.common barrow Soil do?
When are the large enough to be planted in the ground?
Just found the channel and subscribed, looking forward to more videos
I did, from 'helicopters' wintered on the tree, spouts out quickly but ALL after few months became weak and dried to death. I used different soil and fertilizers.... Is it important not to mess cycle winter/summer for ashes? What a mistake I did? Or just seeds bad or infected? The same with oaks ((
Seedlings are very sensitive to fertilizer, just plant em in soil and leave them alone until they're like a year old
With the correct season i just planted them outside into pods... exposed... i figure it should still work ...
Growing up in WI and moving to the south ive NEVER seen a magnolia tree seed pod. I thought it was the coolest thing.
They look so much like Buckeyes.
Hey man, just noticed you haven't uploaded in 2 years? Would love to see more tree germination videos if you ever have time!
I grow weed and had a bunch of oak trees pop up in my pots inside under my lights. I keep my soil mix outside in a kiddie pool under the shed so I guess the squirrels must've buried acorns in there. They're doing well under the lights though, and I want to take them to the park to plant after I harvest this weed. Maybe my new obsession will be growing trees
Iwant seeds
I just took my White Oak acorns out of the Frig, there all floating, is this normal and should I wait 24 hours to see if they sink, and then plant? Or are these Bad acorns? Thank you
