    I was just given a Pinky and I'm super interested in figuring out how to change colors. All the tutorials I've found for color changing involve an electronic component or an automatic color-changer, and all I have is the standard Pinky beds, carriage, and some extra eyelets -- is it possible to change colors mid-row manually on this old-school machine?

    Thank you so much for this video and the reassembly one. I only needed to change three striker plates, which were chipped, so only went as far as that (the machine had just been professionally cleaned). I thought I was very careful to keep track of the nuts we totally removed (only 2), but found a spring washer left over at the end. Cannot find anywhere to put it, as the nuts we removed had their washers in there (great tip about the orange tool). So, it's back together now and we shall see what happens.

    The painter's tape is a game changer. I thought I was going to have to take my Duo 80 over to DKnits and have Michael Becker help me put it back together because I couldn't figure out how to screw everything in. Michael doesn't tell you to do that in the Passap Mechanic. At least I don't remember him having that in there. You just saved me a 4 hour drive and a fair amount of money.

      I may have extra, but I have been out of commission awhile from various unserious but consuming issues. You may want to check in the Machine Knitting Deal or No Deal group on Facebook- just request what you’re looking for. It may end up being faster than me finding & sending one out for now. Good luck! Ps I believe the screw could be from a DM80 or e6000 too, as they should be the same. It’ll probably be easier to find it if you include those parts.

    hi, I am doing a 48 stitch child's sock, the heel flap was done over 24 stitches, I did 12 pairs of the repeat for the flap, when doing the heel turn part, I slipped 1, then knit 14 which is two more than half past the middle (which is actually ;needle L2), knit across, Then I put all the pushers down, so as not to get confused, on the second row, I slipped 1, then put up five pushers, took needles L6, L5 and put L5 on needle L4, L6 in L5 space, to do the ssk and put two more pushers up, one for the ssk and one for the k1, and knit across. But I don't end up with the same number of needles on each side. and the empty needles are off a bit. I did it so many times, still end up the same way. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. 😑. Hope you can decipher my explanation.

    • @motherofallcrafts54
      @motherofallcrafts54 2 роки тому

      Ok, so for the turn, the first row should be slip, knit (some number, past center) then a decrease, then 1 knit (you move 2 stitches over, forming a gap). Ideally you should be left with an even number of stitches after the gap- this is your first check. Then on the next row, it’s slip, then knit (some number), decrease then knit 1 (move 2 over). You should have the same number of stitches after the gap on the right as you had on the left- this is your second check. After those match up, you increase how much you knit in each direction by 1 stitch. Hope this helps!! Here is a hand knit pattern calculator that can determine the stitches to knit to establish the heel. There are many heel styles and no single one is more correct, just what fits you best. You could try “rounder” which gives similar numbers to what you describe www.dotsdabblesdesigns.com/heelturn-calculator/

  • @knit1924
    @knit1924 2 роки тому

    please tell me how you determined how many needles to put up on each side. I see 13 needles on left and 12 on the right. I also see some needles were put in work position on the back back bed. How did you decide how many extra needles to put up?

    • @motherofallcrafts54
      @motherofallcrafts54 2 роки тому

      It’s based on the standard heel flap pattern- one stitch per pair of rows on the heel, plus one more to pick up in the corner between the gusset and foot top, for each side. So 34/2 + 1 = 18. For the left side of the sock there were 10 heel stitches (20/2) and 17 (34/2) top foot stitches. So 7 (17-10) of the 18 gusset stitches go on the front bed to match up with the back bed, and the remaining 11 (18 - 7) are split between the beds- 5 or 6 (11/2 and we can’t have half stitches) additional on the front making 12 or 13 total on the front and the 6 or 5 remaining on the back. We can’t have an odd number of stitches on each side of the sock and keep the centers lined up, so the bed is racked one full rotation one way, to match the front and back beds. One side will get 12 on the front and the other 13- but there will be a different number on the back bed for each side to make 18 total- it doesn’t matter which side you pick.

    Hi, are the pushers up on the back bed, just as a reference to complete the decreases? I got confused in the beginning where you referenced the pushers in and out of the rail. Also, how do you know to move two or three over for the decrease, is there a formula?

    • @motherofallcrafts54
      @motherofallcrafts54 2 роки тому

      So the gusset decreases are the trickiest part to describe, as they change based on how many stitches your sock is. I used the pushers to make note of which were the gusset & which were the foot top- the foot top has no pushers because they were only used for knitting on the scrap yarn. The principle is that you want to have your decrease on the second needle next to the foot top. Each decrease can have a different number of stitches you move over, and can change which side you switch a needle from the back to the front.

    • @knit1924
      @knit1924 2 роки тому

      @@motherofallcrafts54 so you also move the far end pusher down after each decrease to make note of where you are, that is so clever!! You really helped me so much, thank you.

  • @knit1924

    Hi there, do I repeat those two rows 12 times, if my total cast on is 48 stitches, and my heel flap is 24 stitches? so I guess my row counter will register 24 rows, anyway, right? once the heel flap is completed?

    • @motherofallcrafts54
      @motherofallcrafts54 2 роки тому

      Yes, they are electronically controlled though, so act a bit different for selection- the DM80 won’t put the pushers down for you after a row like it does on the e6000.

    • @motherofallcrafts54
      @motherofallcrafts54 2 роки тому

      This depends on how many rows of the heel flap you did. For ever pair of heel flap rows, it is typical to have one stitch for the gusset, plus one. 34 rows of heel flap would have 17+1 stitches added on each side.
