Magic: The Gathering vs Yu-Gi-Oh - Freedom or Self-Expression?

I've played Yugioh and Magic: The Gathering for over 20 years and I LOVE both games. But There is something that I feel Yugioh does MUCH Better than Magic - and that's player connection and self expression. The one where I keep my money.
You want some absolute psychosis, Dark Depths + Dark Ritual + Mutated Cultist + Ulamog, The Ceaseless Hunger. (or omit Ulamog for whatever 10cmc colorless spell you have) Turn 1) Dark Depths Turn 2) Swamp -> Dark Ritual -> Mutated Cultist - [remove all counters from Dark Depths] Your next spell now costs 10 less to cast -> Ulamog, The Ceaseless Hunger Your opponent now has ONE TURN to deal with a 20/20 indestructible flyer and a 10/10 that IMMEDIATELY exiles two target permanents on hitting the field and exiles 20 cards off yor library everytime it attacks (not damages, ATTACKS) Turn 3) scoopy doopy doo. for the YuGiOh fans: That's a 8000/8000 that can't be destroyed by battle or card effects and can attack directly (barring keywords Flying or Reach) and a 4000/4000 that banishes any two target cards on the board and then banishes 13/14 cards directly from your deck anytime it declares an attack.
I rarely play mono colors. However I don’t play commander anymore, because I have felt like for me commander is too limiting. Cause some of my favorite combos requires multiple copies of a card. However I have always loved playing decks that takes a bit to build my board and then all out attacks. Ik ik I’m weak to early game aggro decks.
Fucking incredible lore video this is perfect for a before bed chill sesh. Would you ever do a lore video about Mirrodin? ( before the Phyrexian invasion?) or how about Thunder Junction?
I play eldradrazi all colors.
I know a Bant player
What color pie? Everyone is a card drawing creature color now.
bro didn't menton rakdos when covering rakdos
I like to go life gain in boros so i can use that as card draw for the well of lost dreams and cards like that
I bought a premade green/black deck, and discovered I like playing footsies with death and my own health bar to get ahead in the game. It was for a bunch of commander games and each time I was able to run away with the game by just ignoring the effects of board wipes due to having so many ways to pull creatures back from the graveyard and go for face with lots of big monsters. Twas a fun time.
My favorite archetype of card after clerics. Lovely
Bummed we didn't get Kiki as a card, or more skunks in the set.... Also wish we got a three color Jund commander, maybe focusing in Exile, could be a good Cascade-Exile based commander and a great way to tie in the Raccoons, Lizards, Badger and skunk! Kiki could have been a great defender card with a toxic ability, maybe when she would use defender the attacking creature would get a -1/-1 counter or the creatures controller a poison or "toxic" counter
Always found the eldrazi lore interesting while also one of the worst things to play against due to theier op abilities sucking the fun out of the game.
I constantly battle with home much I love eldrazi and how much I hate annihilator
Break open is not a terrible card, it was also in the top 30 worst cards in MTG. But after the mechanics of Manifest Dread, it's good, Hello Omnistence. If she were in the standard now, she would be playing, since there is no Instant card flip in the standard.Only sorcery
also Im not seeing a time stamp for Premodern which is my favorite format by far
I stopped playing Modern because the card pool was too big and I was tired of getting killed by crazy combos and guys playing solitaire. moved to Standard and now it's getting to where Modern is. too big of a card pool. they should make a format that is only 2 years worth of cards and doesn't have Universes Beyond in it
I fell out of magic just as Nico Bolas was revealed. Jesus christ what happened 💀
several decades passed, mostly.
The story of this set really was the downward turn for the game. Loser Red Planeswalker, bastardization of the Vampire. Just bad writing.
Please do more of these for each block. Very interesting.
I find it very satisfying that the colors are true to not only connotative meaning but also literal meaning. White is the combo of all colors, jack of all trade master of none... Black is devoid of all color and has abilities that none of the other colors have except for maybe a few specific cards.
What I most wanted was the difference between brawl and commander lol
I assume brawl is 1v1 and comander I'd 1v1v1v1
No brawl?
This was a really well put together video and I'm really impressed by how well you articulated the different formats. I've been playing a while but I have been trying to coax commander players out of their shells and get them to try standard or pioneer with me. This is literally the perfect video for me to show them, thank you for making this easier for me.
In Boros I run Livaan with the flaming fist background to do burst commander damage. I use enchantments over equipment in order to speed it up. I have fun with it because the swings in value/danger of my commander keeps me alive with the other players providing juicier targets. You just gotta one shot one or two people, and take the game. While not the most powerful deck it is fun to do 22 damage, gain 22 life, and take out someone in one turn with a base 1/3 creature.
A community format that my friends and I have been getting into is premodern (it's literally any legal card before Modern with a sensible ban list). It's a very fun format and we all got competitive decks around $40, and the more expensive decks are normally just cool and not strictly better. I would recommend looking into it if you and your friends like older cards and slower magic because some of the good cards got reprinted in the last few years and making it even easier to get into.
So I hear comments are good for the algorithm.
standard 60 cards, so fun and 10 games in the time 1 commander deck take ... win

wrong. wrong as f@%k. all of it. 1. white. sucks. just sucks in every way. cannot do anything that another color cant do better. 2. black sucks and can only ressurect and destroy. but green is allowed to resurrect now and red destroys more efficiently. 3. green. overpowered and allowed to just completely encroach and take over everything that white and black are supposed to be good at every card, every set, all the time. all that in addition to having the best mana ramp which, along with card draw, is the literally only way you can win reliably. 4. red. only good at burn anklebiters and destruction. all are absolutely worthless cause commander is mtg's only format now and by the time you use up all your burn or anklebiter cards you havent even gotten close to knocking out even one opponent. and red's destruction is almost always one target at a time. 5. blue. wizard's darling. their favorite child. literally mtg's last viable color. only color that can draw extra cards reliably and efficiently (which ALREADY makes it far far far too broken), can bounce opponent's cards, counter any other card, discard opponent's cards, ect.. basically everything you need and nothing you dont. also allowed to CONSTANTLY rob all the other colors' entire identities and specialties whenever it d@mn well pleases with absolute immunity and impunity. can summon tokens. has the biggest stompiest creatures. excellent removal. alternative win conditions.. can heal, burn, ressurect, ect. its got it all baby. BONUS RAVNICA GUILD COLORS White/Black - tokens and taxes, so trash White/Green - tokens and healing, so even more trash White/Red - burn and healing, trash White/Blue - fliers and lackluster card draw, trash Black/Green - graveyard recycling, trash Black/Red - edgelord, trash Black/Blue - milling, trash Green/Red - Big burny stompy, trash Red/Blue - Low mana instant spamming, trash Green/Blue - Card AND mana ramp, literally the ONLY viable double color archtype. So massively overpowered that NO OTHER DECK has any chance in hell.
1. this while vid is wrong 2. you sound like you have a sinus infection get off youtube
0:44 oops
I wonder what would happen if the eldrazi came in contact with phyrexian oil 🧐
I used to play I was usually the death faction.
Green is my primary color, first _GOOD_ deck and all that, but man do I love mixing it with other colors. My GU deck had the highest win ratio of my play group regardless of who played it (cheating out Stormtide leviathan on turn 3 is just painful... worse still if Archetype of Inspiration just grounded everything and Archetype of Endurance made them both that much harder to get rid of), My GB deck ran fun shenanigans with zombies and sacrifice, and my GW deck was a thing of unfettered beauty. Life gain, +1/+1 counters, tokens, land search, and draw. Cards like Mycoloth really should never be introduced to things like cathar's crusade, soul warden and angel of thune.... or sunbond lol. increasing the number of counters on all my creatures and Life by N×21 every turn was stupid. Also indestructible, hexproof, deathtouch, trample saproling land tokens... with power and toughness at a minimum of 5+N×21 That deck singlehandedly made sure everyone in our group ran at least one form of board wipe or mass bounce.
54:02 if you look down at the bottom of the alexander card it says “custom card”
I respect the wildfrost soundtrack. Underrate game for sure!
Looooved wildfrost
Braids is fun. In an MTGO vintage cube once upon a time, turn 1 swamp, sol ring, lotus, braids was game over for the opponent as long as I could slightly stay on curve
The Eldrazi will show up again in aetherdrift and drive racecars
Oi
Red, White, and Blue, cuz 'Merica!
I'm new to this, have watched 3 videos on this subject. Nobody likes blue
I recently built a fast Naya tribal deck. The commander is Voja, Jaws of the Conclave. I call it "Counters Matter" deck. Fast land ramp, fast creature ramp, and fast card draw.
That was awesome
You did a great job with this one
ive never played magic the gathering but HOLY SHIT IS THAT HOLLOW KNIGHT MUSIC that city of tears music is so quiet that i thought i was literally imagining at it lol
Hollow knight theme song goated 🙌
I love how the Eldrazi cause even the most evil of creatures to become heroes. “Us or them” being a massive equalizer
I'm an Azorius Esper kind of guy. No one plays the game. We stay there and look at each other and everyone tries to wipe my board so I just counterspell them. Also I play cards for free with my bullshit enchantments. Imagine paying mana lol. My favorite esper combo is Alela and spirit sister's call in my enchantment deck, where unless you have a board wipe that exiles all enchantments like farewell, I'll just return anything you remove back. Plus it can easily control the field with it's own removal. Last time I played it against my friend's rakdos and my other friends other esper token deck I absolutely steamrolled them as they were desperately trying to remove my things and even boardwiped but I just brought my things back and resumed total control.
For Gruul commanders you should check out this precon deck around Faldorn the Dread Wolf Herald
