Two thougts here: 1) I wouldn't mind of you just cut your fall colour clips together and release them as a loose collection of fall moments. I like to shoot fall colours, too, sometimes the same type of motive several times just because I like the colours and the scenery. Would watch this nevertheless. 2) Sony's 28-60 is really strange. In comparison to the old 28-70 kit, it is strangely superior in IQ, however as you pointed out, I hate that you have to "activate" it before starting. Still, I am considering to re-buy it as a smaller, more portable option to my Tamron 28-75 G2 which has become the prime killer for me. I don't find any prime lens I can afford that rivals it enough so I would unmount it from my camera. Even though it is not "heavy", on the go it gets heavier and more uncomfortable to carry around. Problem is, there are not many small lenses that are lightweight, have good IQ on a 43 MP sensor and are weather-proof.
One of my favorite small underrated lenses is the Sony 2.8 20mm pancake. The ttartisan pancake is garbage in comparison. The samyang/rokinon 35-150 is incredible with great autofocus.
@@SneakyCaleb 35-150mm is massive and heavy! I bought it a few months ago and returned it right away because I could not find myself carrying it around for longer than an hour 😅
Great video! First one I’ve watched. Subscribed!
Love that the UA-cam algorithm brought me to your channel. Love your content, your voice, and yes aging is definitely a privilege!
I also had problems with Samyang's 18mm. It's a great vlogging focal length but the autofocus made it unusable. it sits in a drawer now.
😭😭😭
youtube NEEDS that autumn series.
Coming right up! 🍁🍂
Samyang 35 f1.8 needs a firmware update. (all of them do, I have the 24 f1.8,35 f1.8, 35 f1.4, 24-7- f2.8 and they all sucked before the update.) It was unusable before that on my A7II, A7CII works fine on my a6400, ZV-E10 after the latest firmware the autofocus works great.
It’s obvious you know gear well. Maybe introduce interesting manual lenses, or your perspective on specific photography concepts, like B&W, ICM, or idea focus, sometimes I go out with a specific style in mind, a color, like finding objects that are blue, cars, clothing, lights, etc. You can always find unique perspectives.
@@RoyAlf thank you for the ideas and encouragement! I just struggle with assembling the ideas into a tidy video people will watch and engage with meaningfully 🙈
@ I understand. Like having writers block. Maybe POV videos, if you’re already out there, have an action camera with you, talk about your perspective, what you look for, what do you find interesting.
How much for the 135 f2?
I once had to sell an expensive camera to a guy I arranged to meet in a shopping mall. Just to be safe, I brought a friend with me as backup. Well, apparently, the guy thought the same thing and brought his brother with him lol. It felt like a gangster scene from a movie because we were sweating over the camera/money so much and both had "bodyguards" just standing there awkwardly XD
I love this 😂😂😂
Wow, still using a DSLR?
@@maxidrivemaxidrive4330 yeah it’s great you should try it, it’s like shooting film, except it’s digital 🤡
Got this recommended by the algorithm. Apparently UA-cam thinks you're similar to Camera Conspiracies, and I can sorta see why :D Love the sincerety!
That’s so funny! I’m a big fan of his, so thanks for the compliment! 😊
Just found your channel, I like your explanations - especially with the sony 11mm as I sold mine for the same reason
Ive heard it said that its best to keep to a certain theme when posting on insta. Well, I tried that, and realised I cant, its not me. I post on various themes (photographically, that is). Seems thats the nature of what youre needing to do with your channel. Ones creative flow cant be stifled, if it is to flow 🎨🖼 I enjoyed your presentation. I love that scenery. I dont get to see much snow here in this part of England ☹ 😊
The problem with sticking to one style is that it pleases the followers, and does not necessarily serves you or your creative journey. And where's the joy in that? I want to make videos and take photos for me. So if it means people don't care for my inconsistency and my channel doesn't grow, that's fine with me. I'll accept that! There's lots of snow where I'm at, and very happy to share some with you :)
@@BadSloucher Please send me a few buckets of your snow. Ty ❄❄ 😁 Yes, well said about the insta thing, exactly. When you 'shoot' for yourself, your work is a lot more authentic and life is simpler 👍🏻
First time on the channel. Always love gear chats. Looking forward to more videos! I put photography on hold for so long so this is putting me in the mood to get back into it. Rocking Fujifilm X-Pro
I've been a long time admirer of Fujifilm X-Pro cameras. One day I'll get one! One day!
@@ricardojaimes6604 I do street photography using Fuji cameras. Their lenses are beautiful. The one I seem to use most is the Fuji 35mm 1.4. Lovely bokeh. I hope your spark continues to ignite 👍🏻
@@BadSloucher Fuji cameras are another rabbit hole though (especially with their built in film simulations) 🤭
@@BadSloucher Haha, I made the switch from my A7III since I wasn't doing photo / video for work anymore. The X-Pro seemed liked the perfect balance between a camera that's a bit more fun to shoot while still packed with the same pro features. Plus it's the X-Pro 3 so it kind of forces you to shoot through the viewfinder with how the LED is stored. Changing to a smaller sensor / mount is a bit of a pain though. I definitely recommend it!
@@Genesis_3v15 Thanks! You too. That's mostly why I got it. I wanted a camera that encouraged me to shoot more. Film emulations are nice as I don't really enjoy editing photos as much as I used to. Your favorite lens is the Fuji 35mm? Right now I only have a 28mm, and a Helios 58mm. So I'm definitely looking to get something in between at some point.
Noo not the 11 F1.8. It's my darling when on FX30 doing POV walks. But that's actually all its good for so fair enough righteous kill.
A fixed wide angle is just not for me :( I really wanted to use it more.
Me with my 2 lenses looking at you right now hahaha (I seriously only have two and only use one of them, the 35mm fuji)
I crave your simplicity!
I also sold the Samyang 18mm f2,8, however just because I bought the Sigma 16-28 f2.8 AND the Sony 14mm GM - so that replaced it for a better. However I did not dislike the lens. It was good for what it was. Low price, small, compact, light and the autofocus and the optics did not let me down. Also I sold the 35mm f1.8, cause I got the Sigma 35mm 2,0 - not because I did not like the lens - it had great AF and optics, but because it felt less premium and the sigma has an aperture ring, which i really like playing with... I ALSO sold the 28-60 f4 cause I didnt like the feel of it and I didnt like that it was f4... But AF and optics were great, too.
You're one of the lucky ones who got good copies of Samyang lenses. I've had lots of people tell me they had issues with their Samyang lenses and this lack of quality assurance is concerning. Great that you've moved onto other gear, hope they're working out!
leaving a random comment for the lao gan ma chili poster in the background
Haha thanks for noticing. It's sick, isn't it?!
Hey! I was wondering how the picture quality is when you put the teleconverter on the 70-200 f4. The converter is actually not meant to be used on that lens, only on the f2.8 version of it. So, how do the pics look? Is it usable?
Excellent question! The photos look great and sharp, but probably because it turns f4 into f8. I'm a hobbyist so maybe my discernment is not the best one to count on 🤷♀ I'm not out here printing billboards, just posting photos on Instagram that get half a second of attention 🙃
@ I’m not printing billboards either 😅 But maybe some larger prints. 🤔 Hm, I guess I just have to get one and try it out. I was a little bit disappointed when I read the converter is only meant to be used on the f2.8 version since I also have the f4 version. Thanks for answering though!
“Don’t go back and watch it, it’s just a bunch of footage of me falling over” ma’am you clearly do not understand your audience
💀💀💀
Interesting as I had the same findings with the same lenses
I've had a few of those Samyang lenses too! And I feel the exact same pain you did with autofocus, I also had the 85 mm Samyang and it was just slower than I needed it to be without a focus. I think you're making a great move moving away from those.
I really wanted to like them. Repeated purchases meant "maybe this next one will be good....?" but I need to give it some time and distance to forget how much they've burned me 🥲
I am a pro public speaker and a super confident person. Yet, I too, lack the confidence to take a street photo of a stranger. However, I also don’t really get street photography, as I don’t understand why a photo of a complete stranger makes my image interesting.
I think people are fascinating; especially when photographed just doing their thing, as in street - facial expressions, style and texture of clothing, the capture of micro-expressions and other moments. Combine all that with the play of light, shadow and atmosphere, the artistic potential becomes huge. Add b&w to the mix, and youve entered another world; a world of grain, texture, simplicity, shape, shadow and contrast. Sometimes a little tweak in how we are seeing, is all thats needed to give us a new angle.
@Genesis_3v15 Thank you for making the time to share your thoughts. Much appreciated 👍. I appreciate your comments and will think about them a bit more when I have my camera in hand. 🎉🎉🎉
@@petermcginty3636 Hi, thanks for your reply. I hope you make some nice discoveries and pictures in your own photographic journey 😊👍🏻
You had me at “cozy”. I am pretty relaxed about the lenses you mention, since I use MFT and Nikon APS-C. Snickered at the “we measure distance in hours”. 😂

All in all, you gonna miss that 135L later on
I'll buy it again if I really want it 😄 better in the hands of someone who will actually use it
I came in defense of the poor little boys, the Samy's :D I have the 45 1.8 and the 18 2.8, both fantastic tiny lenses, optically and fast autofocus. They both have the original firmware, using my "somewhat" old A7R3... they work perfectly. I can compare theses lenses to my 16-35 2.8 GM and SZ Planar 50 1.4, while they are superior to the Korean optics, the latter ones hold up very well in a really small and light package. I love the possibility of using small screw-on effect filters too :)
You’re really lucky! I even have the lens station and keep on the firmware updates and I still don’t feel good about them
To each their own. I have FE 24-50 and few primes, and just added FE 28-60 specifically for that compact form. The additional twisting to use/stow the lens is cumbersome but it works if I need to travel light with few primes.
I have the 28-60 as well. While I don’t use it much, when I do, I am impressed that it’s sharpness. I am going on a short trip in December and will take it along beside my 50mm and 90mm instead of the 35mm Zeiss/Sony I took last year. (I also travel with my Ricoh GR3 for 28mm)
I’m curious which of the two you use more? They seem to be very similar in focal ranges
I think it's interesting to hear your thoughts on photography ,love to hear more ! I know Nikon pretty good but I don't know much about Canon .
I have my eye on the Nikon Z f so you might see more Nikon in the future 😁
Have you tried de 40mm f/2.5 G? I have the 20-70mm with the a7cII and its very versatile but i am thinking of getting one of the small primes to take the camera out in travel scenarios where i usually dont bring the camera for the weight and size (especially at night, going for a walk and stopping to eat somewhere). Thought about the 24mm and the 40mm small primes but cant decide wich would be more useful considering i alreardy own the 20-70mm. Do you find they could be useful or they overlap too much? Or between the 2, which would you choose?
I have the 50mm f2.5 G and I really like it so I’m a fan of lenses that belonged to that f2.5 G release! I think the 40mm might be the more versatile of the two you mentioned. I’m biased though because my personal shooting style leans toward anything >35mm. 24mm feels too wide, but only you know if that is a focal length you’d reach for
Declutter! Sold my a7iv + 35mm 1.8, 85mm 1.8, 24-105mm 4. Downsized to Sony a7c ii, sony 24mm 2.8 g (edc), sony 50mm 1.4 gm (portraits) and have been happy with the downsize.
@@momohmart good kit! 👍
keep it up
I love the Canon EF 135mm f2L. When I switched to Sony it was basically one of two I kept (the other being the 100MacroL). I use it on a Sigma MC-11 adapter for portraits. That adapter sucks for video though. And the biggest reason I kept these two lenses? The used price I could get. Basically $600 CAD each. For mint copies. Don't get me wrong, $600 is $600 but still, look at the price of the Sony versions of these lenses? Yikes.
Same! I just don’t use it enough. Better in the hands of someone who will love and appreciate it more

My Samyang 35mm F1.8 Worked perfectly on my A7cii After a firmware Update

@BadSloucher I almost tossed this lens in the garbage can because of the focus issues. Hopefully a firmware update will help your Lance soon

Hi! 👋😂
@@shX.ebuTuoY hey Swen 👋😂
@ hi Justine 👋😂. And remember: don’t buy Samyang! 😂
Interesting discusssion. Thanks for the information on those Samyang lenses. I had been tempted, but for 24mm, I bought the Sigma 24mm F3.5 from Sigma Canada on sale. Worth checking their website from time to time. I also found your discussion about 135mm and also the heavy Canon interesting, because I am lusting after the Sony 135mm F1.8 whcih is fairly heavy, and which I probably don’t have much use for, but it renders so well:)
Thanks, I'll definitely look into Sigma. I've been aware of their offerings but some time but never got around to testing them out. A fast aperture 135mm lens by any brand will be heavy and yes, very limited in use cases. You really need to know that you'll always be X amount of distance from your subject, or have a clear idea of what kind of composition that would produce. The only use case I can think of is figure skating or sports stadiums where your subjects stay within a specific area and you're constantly positioned a certain distance from them.
@@BadSloucher I really recommend you try their 90mm F2.8 dg dn contemporary. It is one of my favourite lenses of all time. Although I also have the sony 85mm F1.8, I prefer the Sigma. Despite its being slower, I really appreciate its aperture ring and small size, and I love the way it renders.
Love not knowing where the next video is gonna go, definitely keep it up
I still use the Canon EF 28-70mm f2.8L 😭 It's my "always on" on my canon
Oh wow! 😮 I didn’t know anyone else who had it too! You must’ve bought it from an eBay seller in Japan 🇯🇵?? 🙃
Congratulations on cleaning out the lens cupboard. It's a nice feeling to de-clutter. I personally like the variety in your videos.
