I'm really into this TTArtisan 27mm/f2.8 lens. It's so tiny that it's like a little secret weapon for my photography. The weight is almost nothing, which is amazing. The pictures are sharp and the color is just right, with a bit of a film - like tone. The slight vignetting and swirl make the images more interesting. The autofocus is convenient, and the build quality seems good. The aperture ring is a great addition that gives me more control. It's a great lens for shooting my everyday life and for some creative portrait shots.
Excellent video, love how relaxed it is! I completely forgot I had this lens, which I used to pair with the zve1 as my travel video lens due to the dynamic stabilization's crop which took away most of the vignetting. Yet, for some reason, I haven't tried it on my A7Cii... until now! So thanks for this inspiration
@@BadSloucher that's true, the hunting noises do sound like a robotic rodent trapped behind the glass, so worth having a wireless mic instead of a shotgun. I forgot about that too
I liked the inclusion of a special guest at 1:18 lol (btw, beautiful pictures in the forest and nice soundtrack). I think this video matches more your style.
This was a wonderful video, and you captured some amazing images! I love this lens and the character and swirly bokeh that it produces. It's my everyday and travel lens for my Fuji.
My opinion on primes is simple, you never have the thought "shit do I have the wrong lens on" when you only have one prime on you, you'll make the shot work. If it doesn't, at least you will explore and find another shot that does. Enjoy the process.
I guess this can more easily be turned around in favour of zooms than in favour of what you said. 🥲 You are right about the aspect "you make it work" but with a prime lens, you are so heavily restricted that you will (even with an HQ lens) have your moments where you are just cursing about your choice. 😆
Nice video :) My style of photography usually means I can't use primes, but honestly I think I should start thinking of like a 35 or a 28/27. Photos are beautiful :)
I prefer Sony 20mm f2.8, also APSC, which is 30mm on full frame. It a lot more compact than the 27mm. But probably the main reason for me is because it’s closer to 28mm equivalent rather than 35mm. Give it a go, it’ll make your setup even more compact.
What an overall beautiful video Justine. I know this is not really a GEAR channel. Just sayin..I have a Leica Q2 and with your skills I think you'd SO fall in love with that camera...The EVF vs the Sony is like night and day plus on steroids ...the lens which starts at 1.7 is just crazy silky and sharp. I am NOT a Leica person...but prices for used Q2s have dropped a lot since Q3 came out. I could not agree more, with a smaller overall camera like what you did here, it's a pleasure to have with you and you WANT to shoot much longer vs carrying a tank around.. I recently went to Yellowstone National Park. I was lugging around my Nikon ZF with a 28-200 zoom. Took great pictures BUT it was so darn heavy it put me in a bad mood. I also was lucky enough to grab a Fuji x100vi first day it came out. I had that too and IT was such a pleasure to carry all day vs the heavier Nikon... Too bad I guess due to physics and sensor sizes, you cant find a decent bright zoom for Full Frame that is TRULY small. .....Eh!! Love your videos!!
Lovely video. I've got a 16-55 on my Fujifilm xt4. It's an awesome lens but it's just so heavy for me. It stops me taking it out. I'll have to look for a pancake lens. When had an X100s I took it everywhere.
I shoot Fuji and Sony. With Sony I just never bother with jpegs because I just don’t like how they look, so I convert from raw and the images are amazing (you can do anything with raw anyway), but jpegs if I’m lazy or on the road I just use neutral style and import into iPhone and play with some adjustments in Photos app and the images look great too because there’s so much latitude in Sony’s jpegs. I love my Fuji for jpegs but Sony raw is a lot better than Fuji. In my personal opinion of course. So it really depends on what you’re looking for.
I don't know how to describe "how big" the viewfinder is but I'm sure you could find some specs on it online. It's a rangefinder style camera so the viewfinder is smaller and less dots than the non-compact full frame cameras. I used to shoot Canon (2005-2021, had the Rebel XT, 5D Mark III, and mirrorless R6, and heaps of lenses still). I hate to admit it, but I do prefer the colours on Canon. I got sucked into the Sony world because I really like the smaller form factor of the a7c ii.
@@BadSloucher The reason I asked about the viewfinder is because I use a Fuji XS-20. The images it produces are amazing, but the viewfinder is only 0.36 inches in size and it's a strain to look through it.
It's kind of shocking that no one has made a full frame pancake lens with autofocus for Sony E-mount. Surely there's a demand for such a lens. Nikon and Canon have already made their own first party options for their younger mounts. We'll ignore Panasonic's... I started viewing this video thinking: "Oh, dang, someone finally made one!" But it's mainly for apsc. Which is fine.

I thought your 'quick zoom' demonstration at 1:58 was clever. Good photos. Keep up the good work!
Haha literal zoom with your feet 🏃♀️
@@BadSloucher This is why landscape photographers use zooms - it could take hours to walk closer to a mountain :)
This was so peaceful omg
Thank you, Hunter! So funny, I was just watching a video of yours probably at the exact same time you were watching mine 😂
i really vibe with how you present photography, especially on youtube. very refreshing amazing work!

I tried it for video but the autofocus sounds can be a bit loud if you’ve got a shotgun microphone trying to capture ambient sound

Justine...that sounds like a GREAT/ fun idea if your friend is ok with it....Happy shooting..:)😃
Love it! Seems like a cool lens. Wonder how it would work on my FX30 that is an APSC camera. 👌🏼
Isn’t it sold as an apsc lens? It works on a full frame???
All APS-C lenses will “work” on full frame cameras. It just won’t use the whole sensor on a full frame camera
Sorry, I saw later on the video you talking about it 😊

How big is the viewfinder on the a7c ii?
And do you find the colour output on the Sony cameras pleasant? I find them to be less than desirable.

There is totally a market for them. I like having the image quality of a full frame camera without the back pain :)
Sony FE 35mm f2.8 Zeiss is kinda a pancake lens, perhaps more like a semi pancake
Nice video and photos

get a samyang pancake AF FF lens
