  • In this video I talk about breaking up with a camera system I thought I would take to my grave. The reality is, you can change your mind any time.
    Filmed with Sony a7C ii + 20-70mm f4 G lens. Some B-Roll clips shot with:
    - 50mm f2.5 G
    - 70-200mm f4 G OSS ii macro
    B-roll of the Sony a7C ii shot with the Canon R6.

    I completely agree, I myself am a Canon shooter since 2016. Ever since I got myself the Canon 80D, I would rarely take it with me on a trip or for casual photography, and I mostly found myself using it for client work only. Considering that A7Cii, A6700, and ZV-E1 have far better video specs than the 80D, and have a wide range of lens selection to choose from, I've been thinking of getting either one of these three cameras.

      @Wildridefilms 7 місяців тому +1

      All of those cameras you mentioned are prone to overheating, which can be a pain when doing client work. I would recommend looking at the FX30 over the a6700. Or the S5IIX over the A7Cii

      @Animalinfotainment The A7C II doesn't overheat. I have it. 10 bit 4K 30fps 4:22 is no problem for hours. The A6700? Yeah

    I just did this the other day. Selling all my Fuji gear and picking up a second Sony camera the Sony A7cii to go along with my Sony A7RV. Using it with the 40mm and it’s so light and nice to carry.

      I enjoy collecting gear :) That box contained Canon EF, Canon RF, and Sony lenses. 17 in total.

    I'm getting the ac7 2 in a few days so the research I've been doing led me here and a few other of your videos. I Really like your approach to videos and can totally relate to the anxiety you feel. Subbed to see the journey!

      Thank you for the kind words. My future videos will be made with the Sony a7C ii so hopefully you'll be able to assess if it produces the kind of footage you're looking for.

    I resonate with this a lot. I went from a bigger Sony body and lens to a smaller one, and I found myself carrying the smaller gear with me a lot more.

      I'm glad! If form factor is what will help us shoot more and create more, that should be enough to choose the tools we choose.

    Love the snow shots! Agree with you on Canon and the size factor. I’ve shot Canon forever, but I now like picking up smaller gear, and find myself using it more & more.

    I used to shoot canon, then I discovered a love for making videos & changed to Sony. I still have my 5D2 as it’s worth nothing and it’s still fun to take out and use from time to time.

      Same. I really like the look that 5D cameras produce. I had the 5D3 and sold it, but I miss it so much that I might re-purchase a used one some day.

      Do it ! I've initially kept the nifty 50 lens just as its nice and small and doesn't take up so much space (cause the camera itself is such a unit) but I'm actually tempted to buy a few more back.@@BadSloucher

    I'm in the same position. Have an R6II with 24-70 and ordered the A7Cii. I can't think about selling it. It's been so good but I want a lighter setup that isn't a chore to take around.

    I am considering changing systems this year. I have been a Nikon user for almost 20yrs now but i have given up waiting for them to release a mid/top end body with an articulating screen and a native 70-200mm F4 lens for the Z system. So i am looking to move to Sony with the A7RV along with the 20-70mm and 70-200mm f4 ii, those 2 lenses will cover me for my landscape images. I know how you feel about letting go of old systems, back in 2022 i finally sold my Mamiya/ Phase one bodies, lenses and film backs etc that had been sitting around doing nothing for almost 6 years. However in my case those items were becoming rarer so i actually made a profit on them when i sold them.

    • @BadSloucher
      @BadSloucher  7 місяців тому +1

      I can attest that the 20-70mm f4 and 70-20mm f4 are a great pair. They'll have you covered for sure. My next video will feature a lot of footage taken with the 20-70mm, so stay tuned for that if you are still researching. My friend recently got the a7R V and he loves it, but probably too much resolution for my needs (I'm not at the level of skill where I'm printing posters of my work).

    That's a strong coat choice 👌🏻 gorgeous broll, love how you just used those for the first part of the video. I feel like trying that but I've not been brave enough too yet! Totally agree with the narrative here, I'm honestly tempted to let go of my Sony system at times (and I probably would if my work didn't require it to the degree that it does!!).

    You're right, I just got the Canon R5C and its very bulky to carry around but I'm in love with the picture quality. I have been looking for a point and shoot camera that I can just fit in my pocket like a cellphone but with better picture quality.

    • @BadSloucher
      @BadSloucher  7 місяців тому

      I do like the picture quality of Canon R6, don't get me wrong. The insides and the technical aspects of Canon cameras are still good! It's more of a user experience reason for me to switch to Sony - I shoot every day when something is small and portable!

    0:14 The guy shoveling snow is like "Why are you just sitting there while I'm shoveling show in the freezing cold?" This was a short video. It could have been broken up with B-Roll. So paragraph, then b-roll, paragraph, then b-roll then outro, then 20 second b-roll that has the end screen videos and subscribe circle over it. It would have been a solid 10 to 20 minute video. This was a quickie.

      I do plenty for the household to sit and supervise 😉
      Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll take them into consideration. I haven’t been feeling inspired lately and just wanted to put out a message that’s been on my mind for a while. It’s more a reminder to myself than anything.
      But also, I’m not confident enough to put out a 20 minute video yet 😂 I live a very simple/boring life

    • @carlb401
      @carlb401 7 місяців тому +1

      I disagree, the video was short and to the point. It conveyed the reasons for changing systems, without any waffle. I have seen too many videos where they decide to change systems and waffle on for 30 minutes about how good the old system is and then spend five minutes explaining why the new system is better for them.

    • @surfntrucks
      @surfntrucks 7 місяців тому

      @@carlb401 I agree with you about the waffling. But what I explained avoids the waffling, delivers her message and increases the production value. UA-cam loves long form video to keep users on the platform. So the additional cinematic video of the woods will increase runtime and give the audience what they want. More of a creator they like. I mentioned Kraig Adams who does his hiking videos and then talks at the end. I recommend a similar style for this channel. I've been on UA-cam for a long time and spoke with other creators. I've gathered what works and what doesn't. More runtime is necessary. More scenic (cinematic) video of the woods will go a long way, trust me.

    • @surfntrucks
      @surfntrucks 7 місяців тому

      @@carlb401 Also, one last thing. No one likes taking advice, especially publicly. I know you will come up with reasons why you're right and I'm wrong but I feel experience is more valuable than random suggestions. Public conversations on social media is tricky. But again, I agree with you on "Waffling."
