The downside of this HDMI connector is that I can’t use my Side handle anymore on the Side of my cage. Any suggestions how I can solve this problem?
What sucks about the live view is you can't flip the image. If you're trying to take a selfie, you want the image to be flipped.
Hey do you know if there is a way to make the F-log more quickly accessible? This would help me a lot for high contrast situations like windows
Quickest way is to add it to the My Menu section, that way pressing the menu button takes you directly to that menu item. Spanner>User settings>My Menu settings> add items>F-Log/HLG Recording.
@kimfarrelly I will try!!!
Hey it worked! Now F-log is much more accessible, not at the end of a long tunnel. T best would be to add it to the Q.button, but I guess that is not possible. So I'm happy with what I've got. Thanks a lot!!
Iso changing would be great, just for night time photography
Thanks for sharing your setup. I also use a GfX100s and tried using an iPad for a similar use. The problem is that I could never get capture one to initiate shooting with the focus bracketing function on the Fuji, that’s completely automatic. Only single shots were possible. I might have been misting something but after days or research and testing I finally ditch the iPad (and Capture One) and trigger the camera directly and use a video monitor as a way to preview the shot.
Nice review, thank you, I ordered this lens now (used). Hu first thought it was James Hetfield 😉 Best regards form Germany

Premiere does this internally...
Sure, if you pay and use Premier it’s great to have it built in. This way is free for those who don’t.
it's a good service - though they supposedly have it linked in with Premier Pro - the files do not sound the same when you use the AI in Premiere Pro vs using the web based standalone service. I recently learned a bit of a hack with Adobe Podcast - if you're using a better mic than an in-built camera one for instance, and you get some robotic vibes in the sound quality with Adobe Podcast, duplicate your original audio file (pre Adobe Podcast) and run it on another audio track in your video, but at a lower volume, to taste, which will allow some ambient reality to bleed through a bit.
Glad you mentioned this as it's something I'm prone to do also, works well and a good point to make.
Quick & simple. Thanks for the easy trick!
It’s actually pronounced ‘uh-doh-bee’, FYI. ;>

Hi. I am motorsports photographer. Do you say is it good for motorsports?
With one of the newer cameras is great, loads of reach if you need that. I had an easy time shooting bikes as you can see in the video

Hi, I just want to ask how you mount the small rig basic shoulder rig to a tripod. Which quick-release plates are compatible? Thanks in advance.
For my tripod which is Arca Swiss (that is the mounting standard of most tripods except Manfrotto) I have a rail that screws onto the bottom of the baseplate, like this one geni.us/Haoge-HQR-120
@@kimfarrelly good to ask you bout this because ours are Manfrotto. Thank you Sir.
Hi great video! What usb-c dongle do you use?
Thanks, so it took a while to find the right one but this is it: Hub / dongle: geni.us/iPadHub
Thanks so much for sharing, really appreciate it. exactly what I need as my z9 lasts for 2 hours max which is no good for those long shoots.
what would you suggest for Canon Eos R and a MacBook Pro?
Maybe the Canon eos utility will work for you there.
Excellent video! Does capture one on iPad allows to save photos directly on an external drive while tethering? As I'm assuming that one port on the USB dongle can be used to connect an external drive, something like the samsung T7. iPad memory can get full very quickly when shooting 100s of RAW photos for a commercial job, trying to figure out a solution for that..thanks!
I’ll load up a non beta version tomorrow and check but I think now you can finally. Will report back
So bad news, no is the short answer. You can't at the moment save directly to an external SSD through Capture One while tethering, only to device. It is something we asked about early on but no update yet is that will happen, I'll ask my contact to see whats up. I know Cascable allow setting or external storage to save to so it is possible. Best workaround in Capture One Mobile is to export originals after a session to an external SSD & you don't need to disconnect your camera, just select the images you want and export originals>Export & then pick save to files. There you will see any attached storage options. This works with a USBc hub. I guess you can then delete that images on your ipad to free up space as you need? I'd not be happy deleting anything before a solid backup is don't though so... Ideally running the session to an external SSD would be great both for storage space and portability between location and studio for editing but thats in the future (hopefully).
I really wish they had "bracketing" like what is on Camranger 2. I'd switch over in a heartbeat.
What does the bracketing do?
Thx, I needed the reminder...
totally insane that the app/camera won't allow you to tether while in video mode! its bananas that as modern and capable as this camera is there are sooo many issues that aren't congruent between video and stills modes. get your shit together FUJI!
You are amazing! Thank you!
Hello there! I have a Fujifilm XT5. I can't adjust the exposure; ISO, Shutter and Aperture, like how you did at 4:35. Is there a way to fix it? Thanks!
Me too 😢
For ISO: Set the ISO dial to C to allow the use of the command dial to adjust the ISO For Aperture: Same menu like in the video. For Shutter Speed: Use the shutter speed dial and set it to T
Thanks man
Hi Kim, great video. I shoot a lot of products with a boom arm. I do recommend attaching a counter weight on the furthest tripod leg opposite the camera. I use gym arm bands that can be up to 1kg each get from Decathalon or alike. I'm a sucker for safety as many products I shoot are extremely valuable, so I always use a camera neck strap on the camera body and connect it to the boom arm using wire. That way if the camera did accidently fall of the tripod head it wouldn't fall onto the product. I find also geared tripod head with three way movement extremely helpful when shooting downwards. Also some zoom lenses do not hold their focal length when the barrel is pointing downwards. i also setup everything and test shoot before placing the product. I always shoot to a laptop, but curious how fast the RAW's import into the ipad when tethering. I'm shooting with GFX100s. I think a remote trigger is also useful in this situation.
Thought I mentioned a counter weight in the outside leg but perhaps not. That’s lots of extra helpful advice there, the more the better. The speed of transfer is good to the iPad Pro, almost instant from the GFX100s using my tether tools cable. The cameras usb port is 3.1 speed so much slower that the thunderbolt speed the iPad allows but still more than fast enough. And with live view you can trigger the shutter as well as change settings in the camera from the iPad. Nice. See the next video for that live view in action.
Can I cap goodture 4k video this way as well?
Yea you can record with that app, for 4k your capture card will need to output 4k. That little one I was using there says 4k on it but it only outputs 1080. Have fun.
Nice… can’t believe I missed this…
It a nice update, been asking about that since day one.
Thanks man!
Hi Kim, may I ask your what resolution has your monitor you working with in this video? I have an issue with Live View mode.. I have successfully connected my Fuji XT-4 with Capture One Pro on a laptop Acer Concept D with 4K monitor... everything works fine except Live View mode.. In Live view mode I have a very small preview (approx like a credit card) and it is not possible to work with such a small preview. I can zoom it, but then the quality becomes awful.. Currently in contact with Capture One support about 2 weeks, they suggested to try some things, to reset some settings, preferences etc.. but nothing works.. The last thing they wrote were - Fuji cameras are sending a small resolution image to Live view (1024x768) on the contrary to other cameras who are sending full image size... But I also tried to connect on my old laptop which is not 4K (Full HD 1080), preview seems bigger but still not that quality that I see in video Do you have any idea where can be the problem?
I’m using a 5k monitor and an iPad for live view. Should be able to see the feed close to full screen though the resolution will be low as C1 explained. I’ll have a look to see if I can find an issue and report back.
Hey, tried to see what your issue is and can't replicate it, it's all working as expected. Full screen live view
And the lens serves as a support for the arm???? 🤣🤣🤣
How well does it buffer the image captures ? Is it as fast as Capture One ?
Through XAcquire it’s about the same though in use, for editing, CaptureOne One is faster
@@kimfarrelly Interesting. Most of my editing is done in Photoshop. I've always admired Phocus so I may have to give this a try ! Thanks !
so what do I use for my Sony camera ? 🤔
You Sony guys are spoilt for choice 😅, try Imaging Edge as that has hot folder support IIRC.
I never thought I'd own anything by Hasselblad! Now I do! Winning. Jokes aside, thanks for this awesome tip.
Hahahaha. Nice. Enjoy the ownership.
I’ve got the APD version and it’s even worse at focusing. I actually put it up for sale recently, but I’m having second thoughts. It’s a special lens that I like a lot.
Hi Kim, I've been using Phocus for years with my Hasselblad H4D and it is indeed great software. Due to the Hasselblad being End Of Life, I switched to FujiFilm GFX 50SII. Nice camera and it came across my mind to tether it using Phocus in the way you describe in you video. Not really wanting to pay for software licences when not needed. And as you show, it DOES work There are a few disadvantages compared to tethering from the Hasselblad.(unless I didn't find the right way to solve them yet) 1) the Fuji Raw format RAF is not supported in Phocus as far as I can see (yes, I know you shoot Jpeg 🙂 ) 2) modifications in Phocus to an already made photo are not applied on the next shot. That's a pitty as it can save a lot of work. Tethering directly from the H4D to Phocus does that. Allowing to view all pictures with the settings specified (like grayscale and clarity) Thanks for the video, it confirms that creativity is not only in the pictures themselves... 🙂 Regards, Guy Bauwens (Belgium)
Hi Guy, thanks for the nice comment. I was happily surprised to find Phocus working well, the good news is it will allow editing of Fuji rafs (Raw), but there is one thing to change on your camera, you need to shoot uncompressed raw. I’ll have another look at seeing if the settings can follow the next image, but there are so few settings it might not.
@@kimfarrelly Hi, I do shoot Uncompressed RAW. (Super Fine + RAW) but the only pictures loading in Phocus are the Jpegs
@@guybauwens9642 see if the raws are in your hot folder as X acquire. There is settings in XAcquire for jpeg/raw transfer.
@@kimfarrelly Hi again, Kim. Didn't have the time to test your proposition.... until now. BOTH the RAF and JGEG files are transfered to the destination folder specified in X-acquire. Phocus still only shows the JPEG, even using v3.8 (installed earlier today) and using the specified format for the files. So, no help. for me.. anyone experiencing the same? Also tested : settings in Phocus are not applied on the "next picture". That MIGHT be caused by me applying the settings to the JPEG (in Phocus) as I don't have the RAF's (raw files) at my disposal. regards, Guy
@@guybauwens9642 OK, good that the rafs are in your X acquire folder. That’s working as it should, do you want to zip and mail me a random raf? I’d be interested in seeing what’s going on. I don’t have any 50mp raw files here to test. My first go to on that issue is the compressed file not being able to be uncompressed by Phocus. Setting the file to uncompressed in the menu as opposed to the other two options is compressed or lossless..
£59.95 for cable and you calling it's free))))
Other cables also available, plus you probably got one with your camera. Speaking of cameras, I suppose your camera, lens and other stuff like a computer costs money too, so no not free. You can also use X Acquire over WiFi if you need to, it it is a lot slower to transfer the raw files but it works and no need to spend on a cable.
Bruh, you can use any compatible cable 😂
Cool Video 😂
great job on the video kim! the little capture card is a great life hack!
Thanks Tom, it’s even better with my 4k card but that’s a bit big in reality. Use it much more for viewing the camera that I though. new video tomorrow too if you use CO mobile as hinted in the vid.
Thank you! I had not heard of Genki Studio before. My older device isn't supported by them but that's my loss.
It bothers me an inordinate amount that one of Fuji's high-end white lenses would come with a black plastic lens Hood as opposed to one of their white fujinon branded ones like the one with the XF 200mm. I feel pretty certain that over $2,000 retail it could warrant that extra manufacturing cost. 👎
A white hood adds €4k to the lens, ask any 200mm owner.
Lmao.
Yeah the most important thing is a colour-matching lense hood... You seem to want to use it more for your image than for photography. Nobody cares about the colour of the lense or the lense hood...
I'm attempting this now and finding that the result is that after I complete the terminal command to remove the signature Zoom simply says that it 'can't be opened' - if I re-install it, then no additional webcam options are displayed. Any experiences like this?
Question, beginner here😢. I noticed on my Feelworld monitor that the color and image settings are very different from the camera monitor. Do I have to upload a list to fix this? I think I’ve tried to adjust on the monitor but can’t get anywhere close to the camera monitor. Thanks in advance
You’d be best using a colour checker to adjust and also see what your camera is outputting over its HDMI as it might be colouring the feed. On the new version you can load up luts
Thanks for the advice. I finally just found where I can make adjustments in the monitor. This helps a ton. Thanks you. 😊
Another?
Yea that was my second one and still have it.
he Kim tnx for movie, can you please tell us how to set white balance in this setup?
You can set it in camera or in Capture One. If in capture one you can then set the edit from one image to automatically apply to the next on import.
Thanks so much for this!! Super useful and can't wait to use it on my next shoot. Appreciate it :)
What part you use on the monitor? 11:16
The bit I’m screwing in is the 1/4 20 mount, it’s a separate part to the monitor, included in the box, and one of the few things I disliked as it feels like a weak point although still not broken
Kim, I am just setting up a new desktop, so I viewed your video again and it helped me (again!) to set up the camera and the software and get everything working. Today (12.12.23.) Capture One wrote that it is discontinuing Capture One Express on 30 January 2024, so it seems to me that people who want it are going to have to download it before then. I assume that thereafter it will continue working indefinitely (without updates). Trevor
I’ve to get clarity from C1 yet about that but as far as I know they are saying activations will no longer work meaning if you ever get un activated…! But should still be able to use express. I’ve already started researching alternatives for free tethering solutions and will do another video about my findings.
Great. I'm sure a lot of people will be keen to see the new video! @@kimfarrelly
@@koinegreekbible Spoke with C1 today, and no Express will stop working Jan 30th. Pitty, so that limits options for now. I'm researching alternatives but cant get away from the need to have a solid editor as the primary reason to use and app.
Kim, thank you for persevering with this. That is very bad news. I hope that you find an alternative. Fujifilm can't be happy with this and will presumably want to find an alternative themselves.@@kimfarrelly
Oh great another photo of smoothed water in a stream and oversaturated colour and glaring sunlight, to add to the other 2 billion similar images. Why do most photographers copy each other and base their work on confining concepts like rule of thirds? Work that is actually imaginative and unique is largely ignored by the photo community. This Disney/marvel visual influence in photography these days is like Bob Ross was to painting back in the day. Education in art and particularly art history is what most lack.
