This style of videos is awesome, very calming and informative!
Thank you, Kim. It was so helpful. In the beginning, it didn't work but after I restarted my PC everything is fine now.
Such a great and informative video. Thanks a million Kim! Keep up the good work.
This is very helpful! I was going crazy with tether not working on my computer. Thank you so much!
Thanks so much for this!! Super useful and can't wait to use it on my next shoot. Appreciate it :)
Very helpful, thanks Kim.
Thank you Kim. It works!
Exactly what I needed and explained well. Thank you.
Great to hear! Thanks Richard.
Thank you man!! Really helpful! Cheers!
Thank you. Very helpful!
Thank you: it’s useful for me. 👍🏻
Fantastic! Thank you!
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much for taking the time to share this information.
Your are welcome Richard. Happy tethering.
Me too, I’m just a bit confused with the tether cable, because his link opened many options, and different connections, which one will work for Fuji XT4?
Awesome, thanks Kim!
Very useful tactic for Fujifilm lovers :) I will use these app. Thanks
Tried and it works. Not a fan on paid subscription and this free version works. Very good and simple instruction guide. Fantastic and thanks for the tip
Thanks Peter, happy shooting
very helpful, thanks
Thank you so much!!!
Thanks man - really appreciated - liked & subscribed :)
Thank you!!
good video. thanks man.
Thank yous so much Kim, followed your instructions, and worked like a charm on my X-S10.
Used Capture One 20, not the Express version and worked well.
My only technical wish is that it would appear on the PC within 1 second of being taken, not 2-3 seconds, but can't complain about this completely free method :)
Thanks a million Kim!
Great, glad this work around worked for you. I remember 6 seconds or so while being tethered back in the old USB days but the faster the better. Enjoy.
THANKS!
Thanks
Hi, thanks for your video.
I was interested about tethered shooting and wanted to know if you can apply color settings directly on Capture One Express (the free version)?
I didn't try yet because I am waiting for my tether cable to be delivered haha
Thank you, will it work with the XE-3?
Hello Kim This is very helpful and it enabled me to set up this system on two computers, but on my new laptop it just will not work. X-Acquire works correctly. Latest version of Capture One Express for Fujifilm installed and appears to work, hotfolder enabled, correct hotfolder selected, but the program refuses to display any image. The grey X-Acquire bar even shows the image after it is shot, but Capture One says that there are no images in the folder, even though I can see them in Windows Explorer. Any help would be appreciated. I have spent hours trying to get this to work, even uninstalling and reinstalling Capture One.
Many thanks!
Trevor
Kim, I am just setting up a new desktop, so I viewed your video again and it helped me (again!) to set up the camera and the software and get everything working. Today (12.12.23.) Capture One wrote that it is discontinuing Capture One Express on 30 January 2024, so it seems to me that people who want it are going to have to download it before then. I assume that thereafter it will continue working indefinitely (without updates).
Trevor
I’ve to get clarity from C1 yet about that but as far as I know they are saying activations will no longer work meaning if you ever get un activated…! But should still be able to use express. I’ve already started researching alternatives for free tethering solutions and will do another video about my findings.
Great. I'm sure a lot of people will be keen to see the new video! @@kimfarrelly
@@koinegreekbible Spoke with C1 today, and no Express will stop working Jan 30th. Pitty, so that limits options for now. I'm researching alternatives but cant get away from the need to have a solid editor as the primary reason to use and app.
Kim, thank you for persevering with this. That is very bad news. I hope that you find an alternative. Fujifilm can't be happy with this and will presumably want to find an alternative themselves.@@kimfarrelly
Every time it ask file not found on my macbook pro, it ask for retry, stop, skip. After clicking on retry/stop/skip it started importing. kindly help me
Very useful content. Thank you for this. I have a question though, do you think it's possible to connect the camera to 2 computers? One is via USB the other one is via Wifi? Thank you so much!
Thanks very much. Possible yes, easy no.
Hello, great video, subscribed! I opened your theter cable link, it opened different cable connection options at Amazon, which one will work for Fuji XT4? I’m confused 😆
Hej, thanks for the sub 📸. The cable for your X-T4 is usb-c to whatever is on your computer. The X-T4 is USB-C. You can also get an adaptor to turn USB-C to USB-A (the ‘normal’ usb size). I have some of these adaptor cables that work well, there are also much smaller adaptors out there, make sure they are usb 3.1 (5Gb) speed. Adaptor: geni.us/Nimasusbc2a
Hi, thanks for your sharing. Here is a question that I use the usb tether auto mode, but the image still saved to the computer directly and didn't write to the SD card in camera. How could I fix this problem? I used capture one 22 and fuji X-T3. Thanks!!
If you are using X Acquire then in the preferences you can choose what to save and where including what saves to camera. If you are direct to C1-22 then tethering auto should leave a copy on the sd card.
Hi Kim,
Thank you for this video, it has been useful. I have a question: Is it possible to have the video recording shown live on my laptop? I would love to be able to sharpen focus, press record / set settings while I am at it... Can I store the video files directly to my hard drive on the laptop too? This would make it easier to edit afterwards too.
Hope to hear from you.
Thanks in advance, Wim.
Hi Wim, glad you got something out of this video. The way this works means that only the image file taken on the camera is transferred to the computer, Capture One simply 'watches' a folder and imports any image file you place in there. So it's not communicating with the camera in any way making control impossible. You could try using Fuji remote app or if you needed full screen try Cascable.se [iPhone only] to remote control your camera and view the feed. If you have OSX 10.16 you might be able to [AirPlay] mirror your phone display to your mac on a desktop and use that to view. I haven't tried that method yet so just a guess.
Or if you really need that control buy a copy of CaptureOne & it'll work for you.
@@kimfarrelly Hey Kim, thank you so much for your quick and indepth knowhow on this topic. I will try out the suggested, and hope to find what I am still looking for.
Basically I dont want to just transfer files from my xt3, but mostly of all be able to see my video (that what's being recorded) live on my laptop screen. It would be so great to able to click the settings from the camera, on my laptop, like focus, record etc. without having to go behind the camera itself. I would love to work like that so I can control the settings and recording from behind my laptop.
So far I havent found any solutions yet. Thanks again for helping, I will make sure to check out the options you referenced to.
I dunno why I always have an error message about the destination folder...
Thanks Kim! If you have an iPad, can you show us how to tether with iPad. I'd like to know and see if it works well or not. Thank you
Hopefully I’ll be able to do a video about tethering to iPad soon. It’s be great to do for sure
Hey Kim, I'm all hooked up but my camera shutter doesn't work when tether only the shutter button in Capture One. Is that normal?
Nope. If using the free setup C1 will have no control of your camera. If you have the full version of C1 then you can control shutter from the camera or C1
Hey Folks!
I have XT4. Can I use a standart fast usb data cable to connect between pc-camera and tethering? Should I really need to buy a tether cable?
Thanx a lot.
I have some cheap ones that work and some that don’t. Those TetherTools cables always work.
im new to this and I was wondering if you video tethering as well with this software and if not what software could you recommend?
To record or live stream video into your computer you’ll need a capture card like the one I talk about in this video: ua-cam.com/video/esB8YfCAlBo/v-deo.html A good free bit of software for video is called OBS
very helpful thanks for answering my question@@kimfarrelly i already own an "ELCATO" usb card that should also do the job, I haven't tried it yet, its in my other place.... Anyways I'll figure it out thanks so much again !!
Hi, thanks for your video! I have a fuji xt-20 connected to a rsc2. When I turn both devices on it seems my camera keeps connecting and disconnecting showing 'USB'. Now when I go into connection settings > conn. mode > it only shows 2 options: 1) usb card reader 2) usb raw conv/backup restore (usb tether shooting auto is not here?) I just updated my body to the latest fw.
As far as I remember the XT-20 does not allow tethering. And that sucks but it’s part of the separation of models and the cheaper price too I guess.
he Kim tnx for movie, can you please tell us how to set white balance in this setup?
You can set it in camera or in Capture One. If in capture one you can then set the edit from one image to automatically apply to the next on import.
Hey I'm very late but thank you for the video, I wonder does the live view on the camera still visible when you tethered?
On the camera it should still be visible and the camera function as normal, on the full version of Capture One you also get live view on your computer. But that’s a considerable spend to have it.
Can I do it with a wire in my x-t30 ?
Unfortunately the X-T30 will not support tethering, just card reader mode.
Does this work with the X-T2 or X-T3? Thinking of picking one of these up and tethering is a must for me
Yes both the 2 & 3 will tether to Capture One
@@kimfarrelly Thank you! And on the free version of Capture One, correct?
Yes it’ll work as in the video as both the X-T2 and 3 are supported by Capture One and Fuji for X Acquire
Anyway. Can I use fujifilm XA3 for tether?
The XA3 is not able to tether for shooting.
is it possible to shoot tethered with x100v?
The X100V can not shoot tethered, not all Fuji cameras have the ability to be connected to a computer in live liew or live transfer modes, unfortunately. I don't think Fujifilm view the X100 line as in studio cameras.
Does this work with xt-1?
Yes works with the X-T1
Is there a workaround for Nikon?
I don’t shoot Nikon but if they have a tethering app that is similar then maybe. You could try digiCamControl
Is a way to do this on iPad, thanks for the video is very useful I’m already using it like this. But like to use my iPad for external shoots.
With Sony, Canon & Nikon you can download Tether Tools Smart shooter app and have some control: tethertools.com/product/smart-shooter-4/#compatibility
IF [when] Capture One release an iPad app I'm hoping they include raw transfer and camera control with tethering but until then.
Just to be clear, can I use this tutorial for recording videos as well as shooting images?
@TinayAndrade You can grab the live view feed for streaming or recording but the quality will be not that good, probable if you are on a zoom call but you'd be better getting a capture card and recording over HDMI & usually if the USB feed is being used to tether it can't be used for video at the same time. A few videos about streaming, ua-cam.com/play/PLTFgeTAbzERr_RKZ5KMYJbG31sbJK6lKz.html
Hey, I have a Fuji X-T20 and I can't find that menu... Am I doomed?
You might be, Don;t have an X-T20 to hand right now but I'm not fully sure that you can tether with it via X-Acquire. I know you can backup that way.
can i live shoot on my xe4? i dont see the settings on camera
The X-E4 can not live view while tethering, a limit on the camera function unfortunately.
@@kimfarrelly thank you, yeah, tested the xs10 earlier and it worked ,
Is it just work in mac system?
X Acquire is available for Mac and windows so if you use those OSs you are good to tether to Capture One
How do you turn of usb charge on your camera ? Mine seems to be draining the life of the device I’m tethering
Have a look into the setup menu for connections then USB power supply settings, set that to off. However you might still find the camera’s battery is being charged. I’ve been on with Fuji about that when shooting tethered to an iPad, they have noted the ‘bug’ so hopefully a fix in the near future (GFX100s was the camera).
@@kimfarrelly they said a usb hub should work fine , but my concern is if I’ll be able to tether while connecting to a port and not directly to the camera , which they said yes . But I haven’t tried it yet , they claimed to have done some tests and it works .
I’ve always tethered direct to the computer but for the iPad thinking of a hub that can also take power. Let me know how you get on
is it possible to shoot tethered with Fuji X-H1 ?
Yes you can, the X-H1 is supported for tethering in Capture One
@@kimfarrelly thank you
is this possible with Lightroom
As far as I remember it is, been a while since I used Lr. You have to set up a watched folder in Lr see here: helpx.adobe.com/ie/lightroom-classic/help/import-photos-automatically.html
My images are not saving to card. I’m using the auto setting. Please help!
With X-Accuire you can set what format is transferred and what format is saved to the card. See 1.54 in the video
@@kimfarrelly oh I see, so I have to have this program running while using Capture One?
@@JDPooleyPhotography If you go through the video all is explained, you just need to follow along and use what's mentioned i fyou do that it'll work well for you. IF you do get stuck after that let me know.
That’s it. It does the transfer from the camera to the computer and capture one reads any images that are put into the hot folder. Works well.
I have tried everything shown but it doesn't worked. The FUJIFILM X ACQUIRE shows no camera. And also My Fujifilm Xt30 shows USB MOVIE SHOOTING AUTO is this same to USB TETHER SHOOTING AUTO?
Should be the same, just the tethering function will stay to re connect (Auto) as needed. fujifilm-x.com/en-us/stories/fujifilm-x-acquire-features-users-guide/
@@kimfarrelly I have seen a reply from you on an another comment. So is it true that Tethering will not work on XT30?
Tethering is not supported with Capture One on the X-T30, XAcuire might limit it to image playback transfer only. I’ll plug in an X-T30 during the week and see what’s up to if there is a work around and post back here.
Thanks but I was looking for live view tether shooting
You need the full version for that or the brand specific one.
No live viewing, then?
In the free version you have no live view or control of the camera remotely, you need the paid version for that. I you have a HDMI cable you can run that to a monitor or old TV and have live view onto that, if that's want you need. If you really need live view best to buy a licence.
Would this work for iPad ?
Nope. But if you have Capture One iPad then you can tether directly, which is pretty sweet. Otherwise you’d be in USB card mode and loose the use of the camera once connected.
@@kimfarrelly yes I have capture one for ipad
Great then user plug in your cable as normal and make sure the camera is in tethered shooting fixed or auto.
Is it mean free for only a month? free 30 days trial
There is a 30 day trial for the full version but they also have a brand specific for Fujifilm, Sony and Nikon that is free and missing some of the features of the paid version, including tethering. This vid just shows a workaround of sorts. The free version is here: www.captureone.com/en/capture-one-express
Hi, Does this work for Fuji XT 1?
Yes you can tether this way with the X-T1
@@kimfarrelly How can this work with XT1 if the camera set-up menu does Not have USB Tether connection ??? I bought a cable and now I'm trying to connect to XT1, but I can't
It’s a bit confusing in the menus for the X-T1 you need to go Into the SET-UP menu, go to the USB MODE, and select PC SHOOT AUTO. After you set that the camera should be able to transmit to X Acquire
@@kimfarrelly Thanks I did it!
@@kimfarrelly Unfortunately, there is no life view on the laptop screen. I can see on the screen only pictures that have already been captured, but I do not see the live view((
totally insane that the app/camera won't allow you to tether while in video mode! its bananas that as modern and capable as this camera is there are sooo many issues that aren't congruent between video and stills modes. get your shit together FUJI!
Sony version of this?
Yes Capture One have an Express version for Sony too. www.captureone.com/en/capture-one-express/sony
@@kimfarrelly yeah I just noticed it doesn't have tethering in the express version of the app but not sure if there's a work around like you have for fuji
@@zahkilovett No Sony cameras here, but they probably have a similar app to transfer images in real time to a computer ?
And the lens serves as a support for the arm????
🤣🤣🤣
Is it possible to shoot the x100v tethered?
Unfortunately not
