Nice review! I appreciate the occasional foray into philosophy, since watch reviews can get pretty boring. I bought my first SKMEI (1912), because the F91-W backlight was unacceptable. From there I moved on to the 2042, and eventually another 8 or so SKMEI's. All have great electroluminescent backlights (very important for me) and all sell for $3-$7. They work very well as watches and are often conversation starters, when someone notices that they aren't Casio's. I'm waiting for SKMEI to copy my favorite Casio, the W-800H, but I'll still always have a W-800H, because of the 100 meter water resistance of that model.

Have you had any issues with the binding? I careful opened my new shrink-wrapped copy like I was taught in elementary school. But, when I open it, I can hear the spine squeaking. So, I am concerned whether this copy will hold up to extended us. I only recently bought it. So, only time will tell.

Hey there Duffy! Those are some pretty cool finds for Eagle/Berol pencils! Pretty historical pencils and a couple of surprises too. I actually also have a Mirado big eraser pencil myself as well as a bunch of Mikado/Mirado pencils. They have been pretty good pencils to use and I've enjoyed drawing with them so much. Too bad the Mirado has not been made anymore.

Hi MAMO - whenever I see a cigar box I know I'm in for a fun tour of your vintage pencil collection! Way back when in high school, I saw a lot of Velvet pencils around, although for the name I didn't think they were especially velvety smooth. This was in contrast to Velvet peanut butter (made in Michigan) which was my absolute favorite growing up. I'm always amazed at the diversity of your collection and appreciate you sharing it with us!

Hey there, you happen to also have the original Velvet (the brown colored non-Venus branded one)? Venus pencils are pretty underappreciated as a brand. Though it gave us Col-Erase and Velvet brands. Both are now gone sadly.

I assume the better one is 10khz vs 9khz. If so, not a fair test.

I think with these budget radios from China that they work best with their own whip antenna, it's really what they were designed to do. I have the older isolar radio that you showed alongside this newer one, it is a really good radio for the money, good audio too. Nice review, thanks. Best wishes from Scotland

Venus and American Pencil Company Pencils are pretty good, but they increasingly hard to find... And if you do find some rare vintage... be prepared to bankrupt your bank account.

I love my vintage Venus pencils. The Venus Drawing pencil was THE pencil that started my pencil journey so many years ago. Very nice variety of pencils you have there, thanks for sharing.

I loved that shop CW Pencil Enterprise.... They have pencils that came from Generals where you could get pencils that you can't find anywhere else at such an affordable price. I wish they could've still been in business...

I have never looked at pencils like this before. The beauty of your channel is that you gift the viewer a chance to slow down and appreciate the details of fine craftsmanship. Do you like to use a particular pencil sharpener?

What type of leather is it?

16:00 *the WOPEX is not plastic, it is wood pulp with a polymer binder or some such to shape it all together. Basically wood dust that is turned into the pencil's barrel, without two halves needing to be joined.*

*I've come across a few mentions that the Home Depot pencils are made by Musgrave. Can't confirm.*

I somehow have missed whether you have changed to using the 2019 Lectionary, which would make sense giving that you ae always touting the 2019 book.

Got some of those Hexaround railroad pencils myself. I got no. 3's, good writing pencils, excellent quality materials. Eberhard Faber were a premium manufacturer.

i had those arrow pencils. i was about 5 in the early 80s and went to disney world. i got them as a souvineer. there were 3 of them in different colors, in a swede fringey leather "quiver"

Mine just arrived today. Then I googled and watched your video. I'm in Australia. I bought it for camping. Can you do a technical video on it please? Do I need to remove the lithium battery when I use lead batteries as back up. Or should I always use rechargeable batteries because of the solar? Also I thought it would be bigger. I bought it on temu! $37 Australian

Very pretty pencil, and I bet it writes like an icicle on glass. Not sure how it would compare to a Blackwing, but I'm guessing it'd be better. At 4B core hardness, you could write on toilet paper with no risk of tearing. I'd argue that the Apsara made the perfect point for 4B. Graphite this soft (on a wood pencil) is not conducive to super sharp points, they'd last seconds at best.

For the Bugle, I believe they state in the description that it is made of Basswood.

You may already be aware that here in the UK the Catholic Bishops Conference of England and Wales are abandoning the Jerusalem Bible after over fifty years. From First Sunday of Advent (1 December 2024) the New Lectionary will use the English Standard Version - Catholic Edition and the Abbey Psalms & Canticles (c) USSB. These translations were approved by the Catholic Bishops of India in May 2017.

The only real differences are the English spelling and grammar. Bound or being bound means an imposed requirement. So in the US it is changed to obligated or obliged to do something.

For such an inexpensive radio, this has impressive performance. For the price, there's no excuse not to have one around to gather information in the event of a disaster.
