First of, I am sorry for the weird and sometimes plain bad camera angles. I will try and fix it next time. Secondly, Do NOT waste your time with a rebuild service! Mine was simply returned back to me as-is. Looks like they are out of parts to rebuild these. Explains why there are not rebuilt units available for sale as well.

    Small correction: It's not one fan works in low and then second one in high. It's both fans connected in series to work in low (so they run on 6V only) and in parallel for high flow (12V). So if one fan fails it means now low mode at all :-/ and only one fan will kick in in high. In other words you have only "low" mode (half of blowing power) starting from higher temperature. Such a wonderful design.

    1A Auto’s installation video showed an interesting way to do the horseshoe spring part you (and I) were struggling with. They separated the adjuster, then used a screwdriver to spread the top of the second pad inches away from the cylinder. This gave enough clearance to slip the fork part over the adjuster’s actuator plate and then slip the whole thing back over the rest of the adjuster as you release. No special tool. Wish I knew this before! Getting ready to try it on the other side.

    • @emmettturner9452
      @emmettturner9452 Рік тому

      …and, like you, I also found the specialty tools to be worthless. Sorry I bought them! The loop at the end of the first spring makes it easy to install/uninstall with needle-nose pliers since they don’t get in the way of the opening and it isn’t so strong that you need leverage. The horseshoe spring, OTOH, was a pain but not something the generic drum brake tools could help with at all. Like you, I also had to hammer the ends since they didn’t want to drop in even after getting them to the right holes.

  • @emmettturner9452
    @emmettturner9452 Рік тому

    Got sudden noise in one of my drum brakes and also found plenty of meat left. …but first, I heard a strange wooshing sound for half a mile when I left work and then a horrible metallic sound when I used the brakes at the drive through payment window… but not when turning in or stopping at the menu. The sound was just as bad at the pickup window and at the stop sign to pull out. It was NOT the kind of sound you want to keep driving on but I was already rolling at that point and close to my workshop where I already had the tools/parts. I went as far as possible with engine braking but used my parking brake to stop, which caused a sudden BANG and a locked wheel. That wasn’t normal. You see, I had to use the engine braking + parking brake to get back and stop when my caliper failed a month ago and it certainly didn’t bang or lock the wheel back then. I tested it again in the morning and it did the same thing: Sudden wheel lock with a big BANG if I used it while rolling. It was consistent. Luckily, I ordered rear drums and shoes at the same time as my rotors, pads, and calipers last month… though I’d only had time to service the front. At least I know it wasn’t anything I did. ;) Everything looked fine and the problem went away after replacing the shoes and drums so I went looking for anyone else who experienced the same problem. You describe a bad noise though you still had meat on the pads too so I wonder if your wheel would have locked with the parking brake too. It should be almost impossible to do unless you’re driving on ice! The only reason I stopped with the parking brake when I suspected a problem with the drum/pads is because I knew the brake pedal would engage all the brakes and thought there was a chance the parking brake only engages one drum. I was wrong, but I learned a lot. :) Thanks for the video.

    Not sure if this was the case 3 years ago, but the aw11’s with the moonroof/sunroof are considered more rare than the T tops, and the hard tops being the most rare. I much rather the T tops since they seem more useful and are cool in general.

    • @tsmith7146

      The sunroof is easily taken out, and stored behind one of the seats, leaving a surprising amount of space to take in the sun and air. Also, i never had a problem with heavy rain leakage, which the TBars can be susceptible to. Regardless of versions though, Mk1's are the best MR2's and the 4A-GE is such a stunning little engine. I miss mine!

    I got the same van. I changed the heads and replaced the air intake as it had a crack. I swapped my rocker arm and rods with another cylinder that had no misfire, I changed the timing chain, checked compression on the misfiring cylinder all good, swapped coil pack with know good, changed plugs and wires, changed vacuum line and gromet along in the back on the top valve cover, no dice. the only thing left that I can think of is hydraulic lifter so I got a set of those and will check the lobs on the upper came when I change that. Hope that fixes it for me. I thought about changing the ICM but I will now for sure. thanks for the video and good luck
