Great video. Same issue I'm having. Bicycle design largely overlooks people with non-standard foot position. It's not only hard to find any detailed info, but also much more expansive for us to ride clipless. A few hundreds bucks ahead for the special pedal, fitting and everything, while a straight foot person only need 40 bucks to get the cheapest spd pedal.
@@youjunzi yeah, it is doable but it's definitely way more expensive than for somebody with a regular foot position.
Why isn't any explanation about XC or D.country geometry 😢 That's what I'm looking for
@@aldrinclementina4297 what are you looking for specifically? This video is just about the important measurements in MTB geometry and it applies to XC and downcountry bikes too. I do also have a different video that's about the different types of bikes like xc vs trail vs am vs enduro
Love my Ripmo AF! Thanks for the videos. They made my decision to buy one really easy
Great long term review. I’m sitting on a new V1.2 frame collecting parts for the build. How well did your CC guide work? Increased chance of dropping the chain with the loss of some chainwrap around the chainring?
@@genevicente honestly it's worked flawlessly so far. I don't think I've ever dropped a chain that I can recall. Only issue I can remember is one time a tiny pebble kind of got lodged between the chain and the guide and jammed things up, but it was not hard to pop out once I figured out what was going on, and it has only happened that one time.
Great info. I also have a Privateer161 and use it as my bigger rocky trail bike
Great video, well made and to the point!

Nice and straight forward.
My Chesters don't spin like this :(
Thanks for the video. What size MT frame is the largest you can fit back there with a tailgate pad? I ride an XL and am not sure it will fit back there.
@@Monkeyseemonkey79 my bikes are all large and fit easily, an XL frame will definitely fit
@@CharlieWentOutside thank you!
most helpful, fast, informative, and on point. gj.
It looked like you missed the top part of the Unchained where you start on desire and can build up some speed at the top to carry through that section more. Also you need to run this trail a few times to learn how to carry speed on it. Once you figure out how to use the outside of the trails natural berms, rocks and roots to help you to rail a turn you can really keep speed through those turns. That turns the level of fun up 10x.
so im watching your playlists and on the winter fat tire ride at bradbury mtn did you have your tires studded?
@@Joe-pb3lx yes. I'd say studded tires are needed to ride in the winter around here on most days. I actually sold my fat bike because the past couple years they're just haven't been enough days where conditions are good enough to ride. The winters are getting too warm. If you don't mind riding at night there are more opportunities. But especially given the fact that winters are getting warmer I'd say you definitely want studs; sections of the groomed trails will melt and then freeze into ice.
@@CharlieWentOutside good points !
would it be cheating if you leaf blow the trail? .....i had a hard time figuring out which way it went riding along with you
Hey Charlie......i don't think you suck at riding......you are pretty brave.....for a first timer
What would be a "good" or minimum enough good bike for a 4-5 years old kid? Where whould you suggest to start looking around? THX

Thanks for the info. Answered some questions for me. Currently use a Dodge Grand Caravan to transport my bike and gear. Trying to figure out what my next option will be when the minivan has to go.
The fact that you didn’t recreate the steps from the linked video talks a lot good about you.
And for those of us with a commencal meta without existing housing…. Good luck
I live in maine and have contemplated buying my first full squish! The jeffsy capra or stumpjumper. Still not sure but maybe ill just order one and be happy lol
@@joshuarichardz6010 all good bikes! Capra might be a bit overkill for most trails in Maine (but depends where you live), but honestly I bet you'd be happy with any of them
Anyone know of any gravel bike places but away from cars😊
@@123109100 up north there are lots of gravel roads that, while not free of cars, are not very widely traveled. And honestly even down here, dirt roads don't tend to see a ton of traffic. I went for a gravel ride the other day and in 50 minutes I only got passed by two cars. (I hear you on being scared of cars though! My wife recently got me the Garmin varia radar, which tells you well in advance when a car is coming up behind you, and so far I'm loving it, makes me feel a lot safer always knowing when a car is coming)
@CharlieWentOutside i haven't been up north. But really want to try the katahdin 360 up there think the gravel bike would be good for that
@@123109100 yeah that's definitely on my bucket list as well, and from what I've seen a gravel bike is definitely the right choice, although you could probably get away with an XC bike and super fast tires
I already have a ozark trail 700c g.1 explorer sometimes wishing i got the ridge because i don't use it much hoping i could get some miles on it some definitely definitely out up north thanks
Wow what an accomplishment. Great video!!

yeah it rained pretty much the entire day!
Hey, we will be up there next week if you want to take us on a tour?
Curious of you rode brickyard….its was a wild attempt!
I'll say it again ...appreciate the insights on how family-friendly a trail is. There's no better way to turn somebody off the sport than to put them in over their head.
Great info!!! My wife loves snowboarding and i want to introduce her to MTB, but she is really hesitant to take her hard tail on off-road descents (she's probably looked over my shoulder when I was cackling at Friday Fails and thinks that is what she's in for!). Its really helpful to hear your wife's point of view. Georges sounds like a great starting point. Appreciate it!
@@Coover90210 yeah George's and superchicken are good for beginners and would be fine on a hardtail, just take them as slow as needed!
i hope you do wicked good at your race......and cant wait for all the videos.....remember to drink your Moxie ! ! !..... thanks for the update
That's a bigger undertaking than I've ever attempted. I'll be rooting for you, but it goes without saying there's no shame in quitting if your body isn't feeling it. Good luck dude!

@@CharlieWentOutside ......i was looking for how you did,,,,,,and this tells me enough until the vid comes out......take your time making the vid
@@Joe-pb3lx yeah it'll take a little while but hopefully it'll be worth it!
Since everybody has advice ...it seems like you might be trying to prove you are a Real Mountain Biker. We're almost all guilty. We're blessed with this super fun activity we get to do in a beautiful setting and we feel the need to measure our d*cks constantly. Who's fastest? Who's least afraid of injury? Same thing happens in snow sports. ( Ha basically any time males of the species get around each other!) If you're not careful it can suck all the fun right out. And of course, there's the injury thing. I'm super competitive when it comes to field sports and overt competition. But when it comes to skiing and mtb I do my best to suppress my ego and ride for my own pure enjoyment. Ok what's the saying , opinions are like a**holes, we've all got em and they all stink! Not my place to tell you how to ride. But I assure you, even the noobest nooby noob has zero to prove. "Comparison is the thief of joy". GL.
I have duck feet. I ride my road bike with Crank Bros Egg Beaters with quick release cleats. The quick release provides float so my feet can swivel. and stay attached to the pedals.
Yes…
You're right, but you'd be surprised how many people told me no when I was trying to figure this out!
I had similar issue.. foot turned outwards, outside part of the knee hurting when forcing it to be strait when on a bike. But I am going different route, I am doing exercises, and intentionally thinking about straitening my food even while walking. The progress has been really good so far, I even finished my first bike race few weeks ago with minimal knee pain.
Cool, what exercises are you doing?
@@CharlieWentOutside Following this page posturedirect, there are a lot of excercises there, I dont do all, and my consistency could be better tbh :)
Interesting stuff. I had the same issue on one leg, you may have found my VeloNews article on the subject where I go into the road pedal systems I modified to try to fix things. I ended up actually having a surgical intervention to straighten my leg but oh boy did I go deep down the rabbit hole of other solutions before I went nuclear.
Yes. My feet point out notably. I just point the forward tips of my cleats inward, so that they are straight in the pedals when my feet are in their natural to them pointed out position. Getting out is no problem
Sadly, mine are a lot more pointed outward than that! (I did try that first but even with the cleats at the maximum possible angle it wasn't gonna work. Knee pain within an hour).
You ain't kidding about Bradbury! One of the worst bruises I've ever had was from low siding my bike off a slippery root and landing on my hip.
Yeah every time I've ridden there when it's wet I've ended the ride miserable.
thanks for the vid man
