Hi, the juvenile's complete crossing is achieved by sellers by what is called 'white tank treatment'. They keep the arowana in a completely white tank and that will bring out the best shine. Once we put it back to normal tank (mine is transparent on three sides), that initial crossing would go away. If the genes are good, it may come back as the arowana matures (for golden around 3 years or so)

Hi, Thank you. While it is juvenile Arowanas tends to have very light shade and the shop keepers improve top row shine by putting Arowanas in white tanks (white tank treatment). As we put them in regular tank the top row scale shine they achieved in white tanks will be lost slowly. But if the genes are good, as the arowana matures, golden shine will slowly rise up to the top rows again. The purple black shade is the initial shade of all scales (say a scale is lost and new one appears, it will be purplish black), and golden shine is something that grows over time. I bought the Arowana from Cochin. Big shops will have Arowanas of all grades and qualities. The farm they came from may be a good filtering criteria to start with (Qian hu, Sianlon etc). Do share tips on how you raised both together especially when Discus need so much care. Im in Bangalore, if you know of any shops that help source a Qian Hu Arowana do let me know. There is one big shop that deals mostly in Arowana's though it isn't from Qian hu. Also will a 4 ft size tank do or is it good to get a 5ft one ?

Sorry for the late reply.. This message was getting filtered out. It is a long process.. I'll create a video on it soon.. In short, you need to get the arowana acclaimed to the taste of the pellet by feeding it hidden inside prawn pieces. This should go on a while, and then you reduce the feeding frequency so that the Arowana will be more hungry and try feeding pellet. If it fails, repeat the process. It took me a few cycles to get it working.

Hi, Apologies for the late reply. Hope your arowana started eating by now. It usually happens when the Arowana is stressed (new tank, bullying from other tank mates, water quality issues) etc. You may observe and fix those issues (remove bullying tank mates, do 20% water change daily etc). Check for any abnormalities on its body, discolored fins, frayed tail etc. It could be illness that is stressing the fish in which case plenty of water change and in some cases, medicines would be needed. Arowanas randomly have the habit of fasting too.

Hi, Asian Arowanas usually stops growing at 2 feet length. Silver etc can easily cross 3 feet length.

Hi, no never.. from what I've understood, it is red arowanas that benefit more from tanning. Golden, RTG etc develop shine naturally. You can check monsterfishkeeper forums for more info.

I have a small RTG before I had mgbb and was tanning that. Im tanning my RTG to improve the gold. Seeing your RTG I'm doubting of tanning it. I have it in a white tank with white sand. Should I change the background to black or keep it white? Thank you sir

Well I haven't personally tried tanning or WTT, but I've read white background improves shine and darker backgrounds improves richness or depth of the color. Even though my tank doesn't have a white background, it is facing my living and dining room at three sides, with only one narrow side actually facing the wall. Hence the whitish ambience of the entire room which is technically the background in all the three transparent sides, could've attributed to improved shine. We never know :-)

Hi, thanks for the question. While arowana can breathe undissolved oxygen, that isn't equivalent to the labryth organ some other fishes have. If ammonia is high in water, oxygen depletes very quickly. Its good to be safe and add aeration always :-)
