Wooden Treasures TN
United States
Приєднався 20 тра 2016
My name is Rick!
Born and raised in East Tennessee, I’ve spent most of my life in this great state, now settled in Middle Tennessee.
My work is centered, but not limited, towards bowls, rings and jewelry, and pens. I started my woodturning with rings and jewelry at first and enjoy doing those. The jewelry allows you to create whatever your mind can come up with. I’ve turned my Treasures from solid hardwoods to color pencils to create that unique Treasure. Bowls always bring a surprise as you turn and cut away towards the center of the wood to find it’s hidden beauty. The neat and wonderful thing about these Treasures are that they are all “one of a kind, made one at a time".

Cedar Bowl Finish Struggles

#woodturning #cedar #cookevilletn My struggles with a finish on cedar are real. I not had much success with any process, friction polish, oils, etc. that I've been pleased with yet. On this one I wet-sanded with Boiled Linseed Oil and finished with Acks Wood Paste and Polish and had the best result yet. Mike, at Scenic City Woodturning showed this process and I have his link below along with Ac...

Would have been a much better tutorial if it were in focus.
That’s always a challenge when your filming yourself and don’t realize til your editing but I can see from your profile that you’ve never downloaded a video so I won’t seek your advise!👎 #troll
There are auto-focus cameras readily available on the market, and they are very inexpensive. You have good content, so make the investment. I don't download content, but am your consumer, so don't take things personally. @@woodentreasurestn
Extremely informative video ! cheers Bram
Thank ya sir!
Awesome, informative and great timing. I just received an order for 6 pens and I have never made one in my life
Good luck and feel free to ask questions if ya get stuck!
Thank You, so much for this informative video. Watched the whole 40 mins. Hopefully my next pen goes a lot smoother than it has been. I have been a good example of what not to do when making and assembling pens. Thanks Again.
After our conversations, I thought why not make a "how to" video. I know its a little long but I wanted to include all the info without the speeding up an such. Thank you for watching and keep turning!!
where do you get your sound boards. when using glass do you have to rough up the surfacep
I have used 2 sources for materials and both supply great service and quick delivery. Sure there are more but these two I've used. Grassy Creek Game Calls www.grassycreekcalls.com/ Shipleys Outdoors Inc. www.shipleysoutdoors.com/
thank you for your reply. i am brand new to making calls so i am studying everyone's advice.
Why didn’t you talk about thickness of wall, the bottom, the thickness of pedestal and height of the pedestal and the gap between the sound board and playing surface, if you are tring to help someone make a call you need to help with this also.
Thanks for your input! In my research of turkey calls, I found that all these dimensions that your referring to vary from maker to maker. These dimensions your looking for are easily found online by searching "turkey call dimensions" for example. My video refers to my technique, tools I used, etc. Thank you for watching.
Nice work!
Thank ya kindly 😊
Really good conversion.
Thanks Doug!
Ha yours went out after 2 yrs. Mine went out after 2 days. If that's what it is. I used it 1 day for maybe an hr. The next day the display would come on but only clicked when I hit on it flipped to reverse.
Sorry bout that! I went and bought two cause I do think it’ll happen again. Still a good lathe.
Hi Rick, thanks for the video. The bowl came out really nice. How did the finish applied work out with the Cedar's aroma? I have a red cedar blank that I have not turned because I want to highlight not only the woods' beautiful grain and color, but also preserve the aroma (as much as possible).
It did mask the aroma some. I’ve not been able to find a way to finish cedar without doing so except I purchased Cedar Oil at Lowe’s and used it once.
@@woodentreasurestn thank you for the reply and information. Decisions, decisions.
I was looking at getting the 1836 220v , but I see these videos. I hate to spend the money and have problems.
Still a great lathe. Money well spent!
That looks great!
Thank you 😊
🏃 *Promosm*
Nice. Should be a good seller at craft shows.
Thanks Doug! Im really excited about these and expanding my products! Thanks again
That is awesome Rick. Thanks for sharing. I replayed 3 times but my hearing is shot. Did you or did you not use a pressure pot for the resin? Thanks for sharing. :)
Thanks Wayne! I did! It just fit the diameter and put a small screw in the center to handle and lower into the pot. 👍
Very nicely nice.
Thanks Doug! 😊
Nice Looking Bowl 👍
Thanks! Coming from the resin King… I’ll take it! 👍
That’s pretty, Rick. I like that idea, I’m still trying to decide what to do with that piece you gave me. Oh, I’ll have to send you pics of our land. We got it cleared!🎉 lol
Awesome news on the land! I know your stoked! You’ll be getting a package this week too! Note inside will explain! Thanks!
@@woodentreasurestnI got it yesterday and can’t wait to try it out. Thanks for thinking of me🙂
Very cool!
Thank you! A fun, easy resin project!
I have the Revo 24/36 model. Will not turn. The display appears to be fine- when I hand crank the spindle it respond with rpm numbers. But it just doesn’t kick the motor on. Is it most likely the relay? The on off buttons do not seem to respond. I tried resetting the machine several times- no change. I assume it’s stuck in the off position. Thanks for responding if you see this.
When I disassembled the control panel, I saw that there’s not a whole lot of controls within the machine. The only thing outside of the controller would be the freq drive located on the back side. I’ve yet to hear of those failing. They seem to be pretty reliable. The relays aren’t really expensive but I would recommend getting 2 because the price of shipping is as much or more than the relay. Get your monies worth. Relays and dust are not good combinations at all. I won’t say that that’s the issues but that’s what I would change. There’s just not much other than that that is replaceable. Everything else is control boards.
Hi @barryfowler7028. My 24/36 just started doing the same. Depressing. Did you solve issue?
@@jeffdehoog8204 I did get this fixed- it was the electrical supply. I got it wired correctly in the outlet and it works fine now.
@@barryfowler7028 Mine was a simple fix. just had to unplug for 30 sec to reset. Laguna people were very helpful
Thanks for the video. I’m now awaiting my third replacement relay.
Sorry it’s your third. I wondered when I replaced first and ordered 2 just in case cause standard shipping was more than the relay. Good luck.
That’s a really cool idea, Rick. I like that a lot👍🏻
Thank ya Mike. Not a coffee drinker but these do sale well. I’ve gotten comments on how you could use multiple jars and store different blends and all. We’ll see how she sales! Lol Thanks again.
what a great idea! well done
Thank ya much! Appreciate you watching 😊
Looks great 👍
Thank ya much! 🙂
Very nice, cant go wrong with cherry!
True! good hard wood for the long and often use in turning! Thanks for watching!!
Very nice work, look great.
Thank ya Sir. They’re fun to make.
What brand tent are you using? Thanks
10x10 EzUp. Highly recommend. Name suits it well!
I mounted my saw on plywood and the brackets to the plywood. Works great.
Nice❤
Thank you for watching!
That's a pretty little bowl.
Thank ya! 😊
Beautiful bowl, love the finish. :)
Thanks Wayne!😊
Your bowl is Beautiful!! The Acks did a wonderful finish!!
Thanks Annette! Acks has become my go to finish. Good stuff!
Nice bowl
Thank you!
Nice, Rick! Love your projects!
Thank ya man!
Great little bowl
Thank you!
That's a nice little bowl, lovely color
Thanks Hans! Love the colors than Apple produces. Thanks for watching!
Pretty little bowl.
Thanks Doug!
Very pretty, Rick 👍🏻 that has a very rich color to it if that makes sense.
Thanks Mike! It really popped after adding the Ack's too. I've had lots of success turning Apple!
Question. I bought the exact same lathe. I did not know my new shop/older building has 3 phase power incoming, meaning two pole single phase is 208 going out. Will this lathe run on the 208?
most newer motors now are rated for 208-240 VAC range and should work. 208 will have a greater current pull. Would need to confirm on the motor label is within that voltage range. I personally wouldn't have a problem running my lathe in that configuration. I don't represent Laguna and cannot speak for their opinion.
@@woodentreasurestn Thank you for your reply. I spoke with Laguna and they said it will be ok but might need to account for+- 10%. I'm positive what that means but I think I'm good to go.
That looks great. Nice work.
Thank ya! Was pleased the way it can out
Nice work sir. Question: Would this work for cigarettes and marijuana joints or just Cigars? How about blunts, they are kinda like cigars. Thank you.
Not a smoker, so I don’t know. The slate in the base is to snuff out any possibility of burning. Don’t see why it wouldn’t work.
That is a cool idea. Nice one.
Thank ya. Made two and both sold. Kept it all natural.
Nice job Rick, new subscriber, well done
Thank you and thanks for the Sub. Always open for conversations!
Great video! Even tho I've got a Rikon it would still probably be about the same concept. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and family! Take care and GOD BLESS 🙏!
Thanks Stephen! I’m sure your right, especially regarding the VFD. Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas.
@@woodentreasurestn thanks for sharing
As a “Professional Cigar smoker” ha ha been doing for more than 30 years now with more than over 35 ashtrays in my collection and just a part time woodworker great looking ashtray. Love the slate as the mixed media just adds the extra pop. Although don’t worry about any fire hazard with cigar ashes and wood ashtrays especially with a hardwood like Walnut. Great job!
Thank you so much!
A beautiful piece. Nice work.
Thank you so much 😊
That is a sweet setup!!! I'm in ''the getting to get ready" stage and you've been very helpful. I sold (tried to) for a short time 50 years ago. Didn't make any money but had a lot of fun. Love those table cloths that stretch over the legs. Do you have a link? Headed to you channel to see if there's anything else I can learn. Thank you for your effort. I've filmed and edited for my wife and her cooking/baking. I understand that the video doesn't just jump out of you camera to UA-cam.
Hey! Sorry for the delay. Been at a show all weekend. I got the table cloths off Amazon. Search this item # B0963H3SRC. Should take ya to them.
thanks 4 the video some great ideas what is the brand of the light you are using?
If your referring to the lights on the lathe, these are a generic version of the Laguna lights. Got them on Amazon. www.amazon.com/Lights-Table-Machine-Multipurpose-Waterproof/dp/B07PQQDV4H/ref=sr_1_6?crid=3JJGNHXA568KS&keywords=laguna+18%2F36+lathe+lights&qid=1668622842&sprefix=laguna+18%2F36+lathe+lights%2Caps%2C88&sr=8-6
That's a great looking piece. Nice work.
Thank ya
You were right, you did show on the inside of the trailer. I stand corrected. Very nice.
