I turned this bowl thinking it was Maple (I really need to learn how to identify wood better lol), only to learn it was Oak very soon into the turn. I'm not an Oak Fan at all (for turning). I really don't like the texture and looks of it in a bowl. However, I think it came out well. Lot's of tear out issues throughout this whole bowl but stuck with it. Thank you for watching!!

That looks great, Rick. I'm sure somebody will be proud to have it on the table. I have several pieces of Red Oak and Black Oak waiting to turn. They are too big for my little lathe and I didn't want to lose too much cutting them down. I'm hoping they come out this nice when I get to them. Great job as always!

Thanks Mike! This was a real frustrating piece during the process, but the end result came out well which is what maters lol.

Nicely done. Oak can indeed be a tough wood for us to use at the lathe. From time to time I’ll apply a heavy coat of sanding sealer before any sanding is done. By your description I’d guess that you have red oak there. Glad you stuck with it. You ended up with a beautiful bowl.

Thanks Doug! I am glad I stuck it out and pleased with the results! It was the nose frustrating bowl I’ve done I think. But!, results worth it. Thank ya!

Nice work, don't get oak here but I know what you mean as our teak is hard to turn but the results are worth it. Stay cool, John
