Part of my ultimate racquet of choice tournament pick!

what racquet will be my next pick?
In short:
I am looking for a grinder's weapon of choice. "counterpuncher/baseliner" but with great touch and feel . Control oriented enough to keep the ball forever in play but responsive enough to consistently apply pressure to opponent.

      @@dandan.tennis ok thanks a lot ! Yeah, the 100D sounded too demanding for me. I'd like to move away from my pure drive for something more controlled but still forgiving and versatile. Blade 100 wasn't spin friendly enough, I'll demo the speed Mp alongside the percept 100. Heard both played quite similar.

    Hello, can you compare this racquet with the tf40 305 16x19 2022 in terms of power, control, feel and stability ? Thank you !

    • @dandan.tennis
      @dandan.tennis День тому

      Sure! Prestige mp-L less power, more forgiving, more spin. Similar stability. TF40 much more connected with the ball (prestige is a bit too muted for my liking but the comfort is superb) . Control is quite similar but i would say TF40 due to better touch has better control. However due to more spin and forgiveness and less power from prestige mp - L this can be very subjective from hands to hands. I think in stock form i would prefer the tf40. With small mods prestige mp - L sounds a bit more exciting to me. I prefer tf40 315 over tf40 305.

      Thanks ! Actually i have been playing with the tf40 for one year now and I love the feel and touch of this racquet ! The only downside is that i am not a strong guy and i find the tf40 difficult to manipulate on serves and when i am tired, getting often late on my shots. I play my better tennis with these classic flexy control racquets since my strokes are long and well executed, but in the same time they are generally too heavy and clunky for my physical abilities. Do you think I should demo the prestige mpl (or any other racquet) in that regards ? Thank you again !

Ezone has a more consistent response, softer feel and suits a more defensive player. Could be it. Over the years Yonex really pushed the ezone family towards „power” category of racquets while vcore got a bit softer and more spinny. I miss yonex Dr. This one is much stiffer. Totally different response. Vcore series is now closer to the ezone dr from like 10 years ago.

    My favorite poly-poly hybrid by miles, so far. I played it after trying the Machete x Tour Hex hybrid. Like you say, Tour Hex limits the power delivery, makes the response more predictable and lowers the launch angle. The round-shaped crosses only work well with 6 sided mains for me. Anything more aggressively shaped than 6 sides in the mains give too high of a launch angle. I'm more of a flat hitter and this combo worked better for my than Machete x Tour Hex, Tru Pro Firewire x Ghost Wire, YTex Triangle Twisted x Pro Tour, Topspin Max Rotation x Cyber Soft.

      In terms of feel and control - gravity pro 100 %. In terms of user friendliness - percept 100D (easier to perform well with). Gravity Pro requires strong core to really play efficiently with it. Once you figure it out it could be the best racquet out there but the entry point is I would say crazy high for a regular “weekend” player. Prestige Pro is imo actually easier to play with but Gravity is more fun + with probably bigger potential for competitive play. 100D is just safer but no “magic”. @@canalcarolema Thank you for the question. I consider myself a flathitter as well but for some reason i played better with 16x19 (better serves and on defense). I like it think that 18x20 is Del Potro and 16x19 is Murray (who btw used to play with a 18x20 prestige before going to 16x19 prestige). That being said tc line is a bit heavier in swing weight in general so make sure to request a lower number. I would say tc95 needs sw more than tc100. If you go tc95 then the lowest i went was 293 unstrung and it was Ok. 18x20 accordingly will have a slightly higher sw because of more strings. I think that if you enjoy pro staff then you should be fine with the 16x19 tc95 you might have to increase the tension and/or string gauge. Racquet will be softer anyway so you can allow yourself to do it imo. Also 16x19 are more comfortable. Even tour bite felt like a butter to me :) i also liked firestorm 1.30 at 24/23kg. Played very control oriented, spin friendly and comfortable. For an eastern forehand maybe i would normally think about 18x20 a bit more but Hey! Federer also had a more traditional grip and he was spinning like crazy.

      I've played extensively both the 16x19 and 18x20 patterns in the TC95, the 18x20 TC97, and the TC100 (16x19). I too am flat hitter with Easten grips and OHBH I would say the pick of the bunch are the TC95 16x19 and the TC97 18x20, depending on what you're after. - The TC100 is a canon with the highest launch angle I've ever experienced, and I was breaking stings like crazy - definitely not suited to my game. - The TC95 18x20 is a nice frame, but it's a bit odd to have such a flexible frame (60 RA once strung) with a super dense string pattern that firms up the string bed. I'm not exactly sure what it's trying to be. - The TC 95 16x19 is powerful, fast, and has a lot of plow. If one is looking for a powerful package in a fast and comfortable frame, it's an excellent choice. Two caveats: the launch angle, while not as extreme as the TC100, is still very high, and it really needs weight (310g minimum, 320g probably better) for stability. I would definitely pair it with a round string with equal tension in the mains and crosses to control the launch angle. 4G Soft is my string of choice in that frame - The TC97 18x20 has a much more direct feel than either TC95's, owing to a slightly higher RA (63 strung) and different beam contruction (box beam vs. D shape for TC95). It feels stiffer especially in the throat and the shoulders, so I felt more connected to the ball. Not as powerful as the TC95 16x19, but much better control and a ball that goes through the court. Great for slices. In this frame, I would recommend an aggressively shaped poly (Hyper G, Lynx Tour) in 1.20 / 1.25mm with 1kg more in the mains than in the crosses to get a bit more clearance above the net Being a flat hitter coming from a PS97, my guess is that you will feel more at home with the TC97, with its direct feel and box beam.

    You bring up an good question at 8:10. What's better, a consistent defender or a frame that gives you one great weapon? Normally I'd say different, but if that weapon's a backhand, I think it's the choice. Most players' backhands suck, so they hit to others' BHs for relief. The bigger the level of the opponents the more it is important to actually have some weapons. Nice video. I holded a Head Prestige 95 inch model and was tempted to buy one because of its looks and feel and ease, but later felt it would be heavy to play a complete 5 set tournament considering my past experience. I too tried many racquets for a span of 3yrs. In Phase-1, I started with Ezone 98, Prostaff RF, Prostaff 315g, Tecnifibre ISO 305, Vcore 95 2018 all red version. I sold all these and started my Phase-2 search with an old worn-out Wilson six one 95 ncode 333gms used racquet which I liked very much because I could swing it fast, do serve and volley and win points, it was damn stable and maneuverable. I have ordered for the Wilson six one 95 labs v14 version which I am yet to receive. Mean time then I bought Dunlop sx 300, Technifiber TFX1 300gms which I liked for their balance and ease of use and variety. Lastly I found my success with Prince Textreme 300P. I would some good matches with this as I was able to use it through the end of those 3 or 4 sets, It is very maneuverable, controlled and also delivers power If I swing fast. I could hit some good flat shots which were my winners. I found one thing oval heads naturally allow flat shots and rounded heads naturally allow more spin. I finally like to have Prince Textreme 300p as my primary racquet, TFX1 as my secondary. I will see how the new six-one 95 v14 plays once I receive it.
