    Hello Moment of Zed. I subscribed a while back to your channel and enjoy your videos. I have a 96 Z3 I bought a couple of years ago, and it's the most fun to drive of any car I have owned. You seem to be able to find things out a lot better than I can, so I was wondering if you might know about this. I have the subwoofer in my rear console and I need to replace the console (it's cracked up pretty bad). I did find a beige rear console online that is affordable, but it's the one that has the storage compartment, not the speaker. What is have been trying to find out is, can I remove the compartment and put subwoofer in it's place. They look exactly alike. I have been trying to find out and can't seem to find out if it is exchangeable. If you have any helpful info on this, please let me know. Thank you any help, Ralph in Ohio.

    • @MomentofZed

      @@MomentofZed I have the subwoofer and the brackets from the console I have now. I thought if the speaker grill is the same size as the storage door, I could put the guts from my old one into the new one and put my speaker grill in the storage door space. Just hate to buy that one and find out it won't work....expensive mistake. I just couldn't find any info as to whether or not the two units are the same except for the speaker/storage door spot. If you run across any info on that, send me a reply on this thread (I'll keep a lookout). Thanks for getting back to me. Really enjoy your channel.

    I hate this door panel so damn much. I've gone in to replace speakers. And later window regulator bushings. That damn fiber board is absolute garbage. I applied fiberglass resin to portions and some fiberglass reinforcement to others. Maybe I'd need to be better at it, but the reinforced part just ripped away from the rest when I removed it the 2nd time... And not long ago, a body shop broke the door handle so I have to go back into it.... I used some new high temp hot glue for the clips and that seemed OK. Car interiors get too hot for standard 2 part epoxy And reinstalling is so damn tedious

      @@MomentofZed I've owned a 2000 Honda accord and a 2000 Mazda protege. Ive owned a delorean for nearly 10 years and my z3 for 5. I thought the delorean interior was poor since it started warping in the sun but I took it all back after getting my z3. The interior just completely falls apart lol. I've had to remove the glovebox and replaced vents and plugs. The $500 Mazda beater I got held up SIGNIFICANTLY better despite being trashed and it doesn't have visible screws on interior trim. And it cost 1/4 as much as a z3 new lol. It's really sad how bad the interior is on them. Keeping a z3 looking good is probably more expensive than keeping one running.

      @mrmaxime it leaves a lot to be desired for such an expensive car! Mazda does a great job on its interiors for the price.

    Great video, as usual! Good price on the replacement part and it looks quite serviceable $2k for a top replacement - ouch! Makes me feel better about the effort.

    For someone that is not in the car audio hobby, and for your first go at building a sub box, I have to tell you that you did very well. I've been in car audio for almost 16 years... I'd be interested to know what sort of power the factory amplifier is pushing to that sub.

    i have 98 z3 1.9 with S209 Differential lock 25%,,,,,,,what oil should i use?

    • @MomentofZed
      @MomentofZed 28 днів тому

      OK- well... You'd think that would be easy... it's not- apparently S209 meant one thing originally, then something different later: go down the rabbit hole here: www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?2095775-LSD-question So, my best guess (if the posters are correct about the change from clutch type to Torsen non-"M"), is you have a clutch pack type. See here as well: forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1980070-Z3-3-0-differential-torsen-LSD-right With that said, you should probably run one of the non-open type oils; which viscosity is up to you. The only way to know 100% is to take the back cover off and look as far as I know. With that said, I'm not saying you should. Sorry I can't be more definite.
