Donington Park Evening 4/6/24 - 1st session
First session from a greasy Donington Park evening session with Javelin.
Tyres were 205 square A052s with barely legal tread depth. I also had a very heavy brake judder after just a few laps with the new Project MU 999 pads. I think the new front discs may have warped or have a manufacturing defect.
I flashed the M135i a few laps in as he pushed through the gap at the point where I was about to turn in for Mcleans, nearly out braking himself in the process. Luckily, I saw him in my mirror lifted and delayed my turn in. I would have moved straight over after Mcleans' corner. Just no need to drive like that a few laps into the first session when everyone is trying to gauge track conditions.

I found myself having to tip toe around in the wet on bald Yokohama A052's. I need to invest in a set of Rainsport 5's again.

Great little battle around the historic Aintree race track. 2ZZ-GE (red car) 195hp & 140 ft/lbs circa 945kg (without driver) running 205/225 Yokohama A052's 2AR-FXE (black car) 200hp & 180ft/lbs circa 910kg (without driver) running 205/235 Goodyear slicks Unfortunately my mate in the 2AR-FXE had a shunt towards the end of the day ua-cam.com/video/61q87v1ejOY/v-deo.html

Is a 5 speed or a 6 speed ? Fantastic engine the Yamaha 2zz
Considering the 2AR has a lot more displacement to work with the 2ZZ did pretty good staying as close as it did. Which transmission was the 2ZZ using? The final drive could make a big difference pulling out of the corners. C60 has lower final drive than the Euro six speed.
@stevenbitecofer6831 I'm on the C60. It's not suited to 225 45 15 rears at this track. 225 45 16 are much better. A slight increase in FD makes all the difference. Use 3rd in slower corners and 5th on the straights. You can't get away from the 2AR-FXE torque though.

Hiya mate, missed out the description front and rear whiteline ARBs. Front full stiff, rear middle setting. Hope this helps.

K swap the world 🌎🔥2zz is still a great engine also, they just suffer from oil pump.

Great video. What does the tire life look like on a lighter car compared to heavier cars that complain about the 52s becoming hot too quickly?
A052s wear well on the MR2. You can rotate them as well, which helps longevity. If you are contemplating them, just do it! They are the best tyre by a long way.

Celica modified manifold with 200cel sports cat. BMC CDA intake with cold air feed from the rear quarter side scoop.

@@MRS-2ZZ OK thanks ! very interesting, I have a similar configuration, but a slightly heavier car (980 kgs) I have a Rogue motorsport exhaust so modified Celica manifold, cat 200cel, a CDA intake too but in the same location as the air box of Originally, do you think it is more efficient to put it behind the battery?

Thanks, mate. Suspension is only entry-level MeisterR ZetaCRD 5kg front 7kg rear. Front and rear whiteline ARB's, fully braces front, mid and rear.
@@MRS-2ZZ that’s great setup! How do you find the MeisterR on the road with 5 and 7 kg/mm springs? I worry they’ll be too hard. BC Racing recommend only 3.5 and 5 kg/mm!

many people scare me with dry performance but i also think on dry i know how to drive but on wet you need to be sure you have good tire... idono
Rainsports are only really good for standing water where they excel. In damp conditions, they're poor.
Great driving Suspension setup?
Entry level MeisterR coilovers 5kg front, 7kg rear. -3° camber all round. -1mm toe out front each side, +2mm toe in rear each side.

As much drifting I did in my younger days, I don’t think I’d be able to recover out of these MR snap oversteers. They truly are vicious.
