You like knitting? Let's be friends!
I’m just finishing a Fjolla sweater in chocolate brown Semilla!
Oh that sounds so lovely! I’ve been looking for a good sport yarn, and I think this might be it!
@@fiber.and.floral It was lovely to work with and blocked out beautifully!
Hi, love the colors of all the yarns you showed in this podcast!!! I’m also interested in the hat pattern and one of the sock patterns. I think all the colors you’re choosing will look lovely on you. Thank you for sharing 😊
Oh thank you so much! I’m glad to have some color to knit with throughout the winter. Gotta get through these darker days somehow. ☺️ thank you so much for watching and happy knitting! 🧶
O my! When you held the chocolate brown to your face, your face suddenly glowed!!! How interesting!
The power of knowing your color season! ☺️
So neat to hear that someone else dresses in seasonal colours too. I love how it ensures I wear a variety of my handknits
Yes! I love dressing seasonally! And exactly, it gives a chance to rotate through all the lovely garments we’ve made! ❤️
@@fiber.and.floral glad I'm not the only one:)
Way too many commercials
@@patriciahall8733 I’m sorry to hear that, but sadly I don’t have any control over that. :(
Hi Becca, I want also knit the field Sweater. So for secure I save the youtube explain. Thank you. I like how you use "naja" 😊 Thank you for the informative Video❤
Oh im so glad. I hope you find the video helpful! Haha. I work at a bilingual school and speak a lot of “Denglish” so I sometimes don’t notice when these German mannerisms slip into my English. Thank you for watching! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Congrats!🎉 You did great!
Thank you so much! ☺️
Hi Bekah! Thank you for your podcasts! It's so awesome that you knitted Christmas sweaters for your whole family! I'd love to do that too sometime. I'm also an American living in Germany. Wolfsburg to be exact. 😊
Ah, fellow expat! So glad to “meet you” and thank you! It’s a labor of love for sure. 😊 definitely would reccomend both of these patterns!
Hi Becca. This was such a fun episode to watch. Thank you for taking the time to put it together. I just recently discovered you when you were posting from the states and I’m so happy to have found you. I think you did pretty good with your make 9. I hope you’re pleased with yourself too. Looking forward to your next video my friend. 😊
Oh, that’s so kind! Thank you for watching! ❤️
Hi! Really enjoyed your video! Your field sweater is lovely but makes me concerned about the pattern as I was planning to knit field mittens. Maybe I will check the video you mentioned! Thank you!
Oh no, it’s such a lovely stitch pattern! I think it’s just the way the instructions for that one step are written that made me pause, but it’s really easy to do once you get the hang of it. It’s such a lovely stitch, you should absolutely give it a try! Let me know if you do, id love to knit them one day as well! And thank you for watching! ☺️
Hi all your knits are lovely, have you tried going down a needle size when knitting your colourwork socks . My colourwork knitting when on small circumference is looser so I never change my needle size or I just knit on a 2mm needle instead of 2.25mm 😊
I might try that with my next all over colorwork sock! I usually don’t go up a needle size when I knit colorwork sweaters, so maybe I should also stick to 2.25 when knitting colorwork socks. That’s an excellent idea, thank you! 😊
Hello from Sweden 😊 Love the field sweater! What sock pattern did you say you used for your husbands birthday socks?
Oh thank you so much! I combined the Summer Camp Socks by Knitterella and the “I’m so basic” sock by summer lee. But basically I just did a 3x1 ribbing on a size L(72 stitches) sock, and followed Summer’s heel for that size. I hope that makes sense. I’m happy to answer any other questions! Thank you for watching! ❤️
I am a new subscriber. It is really hard to hear you. If you're serious about youTube I think you should get a new phone please!
Thank you for watching. I actually did get a new phone and mic. The newer videos should be better. 🥳
Your Field Sweater is gorgeous!! (I want one just like it.) Congratulations, you have had a very productive and successful fall knitting season! Looking forward to seeing your Winter lineup!
@@KimLeigh-l9h oh thank you so much! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! ☺️
It would be great if you mada a video with designs that only use straight needles.
I, too, love Summer Lee’s patterns, and her colorwork cuff club. I adapt her color work patterns, so I can knit toe-up socks, because I like that construction much better. Unfortunately, all your choices for sock patterns are, I believe, cuff-down sock patterns.
Try the forthought afterthought heel it’s great❤
Wonderful recommendations. Thank you.
@@bonnieorris567 thank you for watching! ❤️
Books from my knitting librarybthat I liie: Vogue Knitting the ultimate knitting book, The knitters handy book of top down sweaters by Ann Budd, Norwegian knitting designs 90 years later by Wence Roald and Annichen Sibbern Bohn, and Patty Lyons knitting bag of tricks.
Oooh, thank you for these recommendations! I’ll definitely add them to my list!
Happy to have discovered your channel! I am an avid sock knitter and reader and beginning spinner so I have either read or listened to most of the books you shared and own many of them. I would recommend Womens Work the first 20,000 years by Elizabeth Barber as another good history read.
Ah, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Someone else Reccomended that book too and it’s on my Christmas list! I’m excited to read it!!!
Such a pleasurable podcast ❤ Thank you for Sharing 😊Happy Making!!!
Thank you for watching! ❤️
Beautiful area and wonderful podcast.
Thank you so much! ☺️
You are absolutely correct, The Enoch Pratt Library is the best system in the country. What branch have you been visiting? I live in Baltimore and the creative community is amazing. Thanks so much for the recomendations.
@@kristytaylor9320 ah, it truly is! I get giddy everytime we visit. My in-laws live in the Pikesville area, so we visited that branch. Such a treasure! Have you visited Lovelyyarn? I was able to do a Spinning Lesson with Michelle while I was in the area and they seem like such lovely people. :)
@@fiber.and.floral I'm also a spinner. My favorite local shop in Black Sheep Are you going to keep spinning?
@ oh gosh. I spent so much money at Black Sheep, it’s obscene! 🙈 loved them. And they were also the kindest. I am! I’ve been spinning since August but “taught myself” through online videos. But since I had the opportunity to have someone teach me 1on1, I took it. I really love how meditative spinning is!
@@fiber.and.floral they are great. Btw, my niece and her family are visiting from Berlin (school break). My nephew teaches at the American School. Sadly she's not a knitter :)
@ ah what a small world, as I’m an educator at a local bilingual school! What are the chances? Well, if she ever wants to learn, I know a great knitting group. :)
I recommend The Knitting Circle by Ann Hood. It is fantastic. I read it twice. However, I must warn that it grapples with tremendous loss and grief, not just friendship and knitting. Happy knitting and reading. Really enjoyed this podcast!
@@HeidiSpear-oz6rw oh, I haven’t heard of that one. I will definitely check it out. I would be nice to hear how knitting can help with the hard times, as well as the good. Thank you for watching!
Thank you for this cool overview!! I own several of the books you've mentioned, was knitting on a sock while watching and had listened to the rom com. I'm also living in Berlin working in education and have given a workshop on knitting at my school-- How come we don't know each other???😄😄😄
What, that’s crazy!?! Should we be friends? 😆 (I’m serious though) would love to grab coffee and knit sometime. I also have a lovely knitting group if you speak German!
Thank you so Munch for the book recommendations! I love knitting, libraries and book … and am also an avid sock knitter😊
@@ninabille6160 ah, all the best things in life then! Thank you for watching! I’m glad that “you’re here!” ☺️
Thanks I enjoyed your book reviews. I have recently bought two knitting books. One is “The Sock Knitting Bible “ by Lynne Rowe, which similar to one on your list includes all different heals, cuffs and toes. Also knitting with all types of needles, circular, dpn’s and two needles and two at a time. Cuff down and toe up, plain, lace and colour work patterns. The second one which I find very inspiring is “The Doodle Knit Directory “ by Jamie Lomax which I pre-ordered it is new out. It has lots of colour work patterns and motifs which you can mix and match using the basic patterns provided or on any garment or accessories of your choice. Thanks once again for your recommendations and reviews.
@@dorothypoynton4875 oooh the doodle knit sounds amazing- and just what Ive been looking for lately. I need to look that one up! Thank you for your recommendations!!!
I also judt bought the Doodle book and can't wait to dive into it
So fun. I have fallen in love with the Book Club Cardigan. If I can get brave, I’ll start it after first of the year. Continue to have a good time. So glad I found you.
Ah, yes. The Book Club Cardigan is a stunner! It’s worth all the effort for sure and makes me so happy whenever I sit down to knit it! Let me know if you end up starting it! Thank you for watching! ❤️
Thanks for sharing, I like the variety of books and was introduced to some of the books I haven’t seen. Certainly interested in looking for a few.
Oh, I’m so glad! Thank you for watching! ❤️
Hi, just found your channel - thank you for the recommendations. I have a few in return. Women's Work: The First 20,000 Years Women, Cloth, and Society in Early Times - this is an academic book but I found it absolutely fascinating and as you mentioned it highlights women in history instead of just focusing on men. A Stash of one's own - Clara Parkes. An easy read, very enjoyable The Fleece and Fibre Source Book - a must have for Spinners and knitters alike (in my humble opinion) Inspired to Spin - a new acquisition for me - not sure if it's available in USA (i'm from the UK) I also have yarn-i-tec-ture which I agree is also a bit of a must have. I do have quite a few of the ones you highlighted but will check out those new to me 🙂
@@nomadicgenes8064 oh, thank tou so much for watching! I’ll definitely add your recommendations to my lists. I’m really interested in reading more about women’s history- I feel like I missed so much of this in school! Thank you for taking the time to reccomend so many!!!
Thanks for an interesting podcast - not that I need any more knitting books.... Can i recommend The Sewing Machine by Natalie Fergie - a lovely novel where a Singer Sewing Machine links the stories of people through time.
@@janelithgow7727 oooh, a sewing book! That sounds amazing! Thank you for sharing! I’ll absolutely have a look into that one and try to get my hands on it
I really enjoyed your podcast. At first, I decided to just skip through the sock section because, although I do knit socks, that’s not where my knitting joy is. However, I listened to the whole thing because I found your reviews so thoughtful and insightful that, not only did I listen to it all the way through, I even put a few on my list of must haves. I have heard of Unraveling, but haven’t gotten to it yet. I just moved it up on the To Read list. (I don’t need that book to turn me radical about that topic. Already there!😉). I do know another book on that topic, but can’t remember the title. You have me curious and I will look for it. If I find it, ai’ll let you know. Found you quite charming and intelligent. Of course, I subscribed.
@@cherylclough4309 oh thank you so much for your kind words. It brought me so much joy to read this! Very much looking forward to your thoughts on Unraveling!
Woah, would be very interested to see your experience with the knitting two socks at once! It sounds like sock steeking?! Very cool.

@@ksdunlap1479 ah, you’re going to love it! Such a good book!!!
'Scandinavian Sweaters' is one of my go-to books both for straightforward patterns and inspiration. I made the 'Bandit' cardigan as a sweater and have been stopped in the street by people asking me where I got that fabulous sweater! Other books I love are 'Wilderness Knits' by Linka Neumann, 'Icelandic Knits' which is a co-operative of designers including Anna-Karolina Tetri who created the stunning Yellow Hillock pattern. Wow!! 'Knittting Reimagined' by Norah Epstein. 'Texture' by Erika Knight. 'Ultimate Sweater Book' by Amy Herzog. Absolutely ANYTHING by Marie Wallin. 'Contemporary Irish Knits' by Carol Feller - the cover pic cardigan is another one that stops traffic! And in case you thought knitting was just for ladies.... 'Viking Knits' by a true Viking, Lasse Matberg.
@@jayeclements6452 ah, thank you for this wealth of reccomendatiins! I’m going to look up every single one and see if I can get ahold of it. And I agree, every single sweater in the Sweater Book is stunning! I’m so excited to knit something from it soon!
Great vid thank you, I love knitting books but always like to check them out before buying…however my library is not as well stocked as yours! I have a book suggestion for you, This Golden Fleece : A Journey Through Britain’s Knitted History by Esther Rutter. Have you had any difficulty with your colorwork socks fitting over the heel part of your foot? That's the part where I often struggle even though I go up a needle size and keep my tension looser.
@@alovelyyarn hi!!! I actually have the opposite problem. I’m such a loose colorwork knitter that, while the socks fit over my ankle, they often fall down on my leg from being too loose. I’m trying to work on tightening my tension with my recent pair. We’ll see if it pays off. Have you tried the 9inch circular needles? That was one tip that Summer Lee recommended and I do find it helpful.
@fiber.and.floral haha. Ok. Yes, I do use 9 inch circs. It always looks like the colorwork is nice and loose but then it feels like I'm going to snap a yarn strand when I'm trying to get it over my heel. I'm going to do a little more research. Thanks for your input!
the "rib it socks" by celine feyton - the heel looks similar to the latvian heel, which you can find in sock designs by Zaneteknits !
Oh I’ll have to look into that! Thank you for sharing! ❤️
Found you last night, now going back to the beginning of your episodes bc I really enjoy your enthusiasm. If you make another Sophie Scarf consider Twice Sheared Sheep row counter stitch markers. I bought mine after completing both the shawl and the scarf and wish I’d had it before I did either to keep track and make them a more mindless knit. Socks are my jam! If I don’t have a pair going, I’m all out of sorts. I love the rhythm and construction. Excited to watch more of your videos because I’m intimidated with the concept of color work but it’s in my list to learn. I love your WIPs and completed projects. Wearing my first socks today since Ohio got cold quickly. They’re DK and knit fast. While they’re cozy, I don’t think they’d fit in my shoes well. So they’re house socks. Just fyi for your inquiring mind.
@@sharbear1968 oh that’s just the kindest compliment ever. Thank you so much! I definitely have to have a pair of socks as a WIP now. I love how portable they are! Thank you so much for watching!
New subscriber. I think wore out my Ravelry app because everything seemed to be something I’ve seen before. You found some great ones. Isn’t Summer Lee the best? I love her and Kay the Crazy Sock Lady. I’m working on a shawl that feels like it’s taking forever. No fun when you’re ready to cast on a new pair of socks. So I just cast on the library socks for my mom’s Christmas gift. She’s always wanted hand knit socks.
Hahaha that’s so kind, thank you! Summer Lee is the Queen!
