Brown Trout Guy
Canada
Приєднався 11 лип 2023
My passion for stream fishing started with my dad. From a very early age, we’d go out for a few hours. He’d buy a dozen dew worms in an old soup can and off we’d go. I always knew where he was because the hummed when he fished. Maybe that’s why we never caught a big speckled trout but that humming is a 60 year old memory. Makes me smile still.
I call my fishing CPR, catch, photo, release. The photo part began when I’d say to my wife, “you wouldn’t believe the fish I caught today.” And her response was always, “no I wouldn’t.” So I went out and bought a small waterproof camera which hung from my neck each fishing session.
I had been thinking about go pro technology but at 76, all that new stuff was a bit too much. Then my daughter introduced me to someone who was computer literate. He told me to catch the fish and he’d edit the footage.
Hallelujah
So presently I’m wandering back in the bush where I’ve fished for 45 years.
Hope you like the videos.
Sincerely

S2:E15 - Fall Fishing for Brown Trout
We both hope you enjoy the video. Comments are appreciated, welcomed and answered.
Well I would apologize for some of the segments where I was looking at the brown. Earlier in the am I had knocked my gp off once again and evidently didn’t place it properly back on my head. Don’t worry, this is NOT a repeat of episode 2..honest!
I mentioned starting at hole 3 because of limited time and what a busy hole it was. Those waves were made by big browns as several times they came out fast from their hiding spot looking for food.
I was sooo lucky to have a 2nd chance at getting the brown on the line as usually, it’s 1 miss and done for the day.
I’m sure my brown today was the swimming partner of Alfred’s from episode 12. Both are beauties.
You hear me say several times, ‘keep it up’ and I’ve said that before in other episodes. These big guys want to go down to the bottom where they can get tangled up in logs and branches. When that happens, the fish invariably wins the battle. So it’s very important to have a gentle pressure on the fish and try to keep the pole in an upright position in order to keep the fish from diving. Be aware of the layout of the area in which you’re fishing so with that gentle pressure, you lead the fish where you want it to go. You’ll have a greater chance of success when you’re in control.
Thank you Alfred for putting these segments together for a video. It’s such a privilege to be at these streams and catch these wonderful specimens, over and over and ….
Catch and release works.
Cheers from both of us.

This is a video that got ‘lost’ as we realized the segments had not been used yet. Good year for sure when that happens! So it would appear that I was a tag along with Alfred today as he was on a roll. He’d throw in a Craigleith or a worm and right away a brookie would dart out to attack. He was a busy guy and good for him. Glad to support him somehow and fun to watch. I added 2 other segments ...

Well, Alfred has been on a role recently. 1st a 26” brown which is the latest video and now this beauty rainbow. What a total surprise that was. And if you go to last year’s episode 11, you’ll see the same fish I’m sure, the Olympic swimmer and jumper. Alfred handled it differently and that’s why we have a video. Well done for sure. I missed the fish 5 minutes earlier. There were some violent t...

For the past 3 weeks, Alfred and I have not made a brown trout video although we have probably 40 segments where we say, ‘oh, look at that,” and “oh, there’s another one, it’s huge!’ We just couldn’t get a big guy to be interested in what we had to offer. Admittedly it’s getting later in the season and the big guys are becoming savvy to our ploys but still, we were getting a little frustrated b...

I started early this am, thinking about getting at least 1 big brown on my line for a photo op when I looked to my right and saw the sun rising behind some clouds. It took me immediately to Haleakalā. I don’t know if you’ve had the thrill of seeing a sunrise from the top of Haleakalā but it is an awesome, even a spiritual event as the chanting welcomes ‘ka lā’ to the beginning of a new day. ‘Wo...

I started early as recent mornings have been very humid, and getting there very fast. Today was an exception so off I went to 1 of our favourite places. The water course has changed in many places after a severe winter and spring runoff. It’s a matter of finding the new hiding spots. I felt I was a blood donor to a billion mosquitoes today. Had repellent on every place but the tip of my nose an...

What a day fishing. Started early thinking I might get rained out. Nope, everything was good. It was a little humid so that’s why the early beginning. Alfred just put out the ‘28” brown trout attacks Panther Martin’ video so I thought I’d start at what we call hole 1. I decided to use a Craig Leith (chub tail) instead of the Panther Martin, thinking a big fish would probably be wary from the la...

Beautiful brown
Afternoon to you. Sorry I didn’t see your comment earlier. Yes, there have been some beauty brown trout caught and released this year. I love watching when they attack the bait. Have been quite lucky as the big guys have attacked the panther Martin quite close. And they do attack. Love the head shakes as the power is felt right up the line and pole into my hands. Thanks for watching. Cheers rob
PS…..just looked at your website. Great stuff, congratulations. Browntroutguy…rob
@robsleeman thank you deeply appreciated 👍🏼 yeah the fight is awesome I love it
Nice vid beauty brown…Billy
Good day to you Gail…glad you viewed Alfred’s work. It’s always fun to be at the stream as we never know what we’ll encounter. It has been a great year for fish. Thanks for the comment. Names Gail and Billy remind me of good times many years ago. Add Spencer and 3 kids, and definitely great memories. Hope you guys are in good health. Cheers Rob
That’s a beautiful trout Mr. Sleeman. Great catch!
Good evening or maybe better, good morning to you. Good to see your name. And yes Austin, that was a good looking brown. They’re getting harder to catch so lucky there’s just a week or so left in the season. Alfred and I need a rest, at least I do. Hope you had a good summer of fishing. It’s great to be outdoors and you never know what you’re going to see or catch! Have a great thanksgiving. Hi to Omi. Cheers to you and thanks for watching the videos. Mr. S
How did the baseball go?
Evening Paul….Hudson’s team won the finals and Parker got to the semis. Season over for both now. Same can now be said about the Tigers. Sorry to see them lose today. Good memories from a couple weeks ago. Hope to get there again. Trust you’ll have a healthy winter. It was a good last 10 days of fishing so there’s another big brown video in the works. A great year for sure. Cheers Rob
Hey Mr. Sleeman, those are some amazing fish. I wish I had luck with catching trout like you do. I can never seem to find good spots like you. Love the videos👍
Good evening Austin, a late reply as I’ve been watching baseball and hockey for quite a while tonight!! Hope you’re in bed by now. Thanks for saying hello. I’m sure Omi and you have caught some nice brookies. Keep on trying as you never know what surprises the waters hold! Hope grade 9 is working out for you. I understand you’ve been visiting the weight room and I’m sure as you continue, you’ll find lots more to interest you. Try them all as the next 4 years will go by quickly. Hey, I’m sure 1 of your teachers is interested in fishing…start a club! Good to hear from you as always. Take care. I’m glad you like the videos. Alfred does a great job putting the segments together AND he’s doing a bang up job catching big fish! We’ve got a couple more biggies to get to the video stage. Should be fun. Say hello to Omi. Take care…Mr. S

Shouldn't you wet your hands before touching the trout since you're not keeping them?
Evening Jason….been thinking about your comment. My hands are somewhat wet when I’m handling the specks, not dripping, but moist. I think their chances of survival are great. The option of eating these wild trout which come up from the main river, does not appeal to me so I’d rather get them back into the water as quickly as possible. I admire but don’t dawdle in getting them back. I think they pose a greater life ending option from the big browns that share their water. 1 gulp from the browns you see in the videos, and they’re gone. That’s what I believe as I certainly wish no harm to these fish. Thanks for your comment. Sincerely Rob Ps….ive emailed a friend who works with fisheries, mentioning your comment. I’m sure to hear back from him. Cheers
Hi again Jason…..my friend from fisheries is the guy I’m catching Brook trout with in the 1st video of the year. It’s important to get the trout back into the water as soon as possible. Wet would be good. He also figures they are susceptible to a big brown eating them before they died from my hands. Cheers rob
Drag was screaming 😮 what state are you in PA?
Thats an absolute pool monster, that probably ate every other trout within a quarter mile
It really was a BIG fish who has had plenty to eat. Thanks for your comment!
Hey Rob how’s it going pal all good I hope 🤞🏼 WhatsApp a lovely Rainbow eh nice to finally see Alfred I was beginning to think he was your imaginary friend 😂 I was out about two weeks ago & had a great morning session caught maybe 5/6 nice browns & I caught my 1st Sea Trout in around 25 years from the river I was fishing BUT as I don’t drive I had to take the bus there & home I didn’t bother to dismantle my rod as it’s only 5ft 6 so I carry it on the bus & just have it at my side but on the way home the bus got really busy & I was pushed up against the window as the back seat of the bus filled up well when I got up to get off the bus my rod was snapped at the top about 6 inches from the tip 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️ I noticed my reel was a bit iffy but I’ve had it for 7 years & it’s served me well considering it was a cheap Shimano Hyperloop So I’ll be 50 in just over a week so I’ve asked the Mrs for a new rod & reel I’m going to get another Abu Garcia Devil spin rod ultra light & I saw a very reasonable price Abu Garcia reel size 1000 £55 for both so I’m hoping to get another session before trout season ends in a few weeks we are actually having a mini heatwave over here I just hope it keeps up 😉 I’m only halfway through the vid so I’ll leave a fine comment once I’ve watched it all 👍🏼💙🎣🏴
Good evening Craig..good to see your name as it’s been a while. Was reading all the entertainment recently happening in Edinburgh!! Comic festival..shortest joke? And another festival. That’s a hopping town for sure. Bummer about the pole. I’ll have to check out prices here for a comparison. Ya, I was very happy for Alfred and he is real or you’d never see a video as I’m not technically inclined. Well if I am, it’s downhill and fast. Amazing fish this season. Alfred’s been more than pleased of the results…me too. Hear from you later. Cheers rob
Ah well 🤷🏼♂️ that’s why it’s called Fishing eh 😉😁 I was waiting for you to hook into one of the browns you saw but another day 🤷🏼♂️ as I’ve told you before it doesn’t bother me if I blank it’s just good to get out & throw a few lures or bait at some visible fish 😁 I’ll need to check out your previous video for Alfred’s pb Brown 26 inches 😮 nice 👌🏼 Take care my Friend & say hello to Alfred for me will you 👍🏼 Tight lines ✌🏼💙🎣🏴👍🏼
@@craigleith100 well Alfred has been as happy as a clam recently. He’s cert getting the knack for the big one and that’s fine by me. I’ll check out Garcia reels next week when I get home it would be interesting to see if they have the same model even. Always good to see your name. Hope the 50th is a memorable one! Cheers rob
@@robsleeman Thanks Rob 😉😁👍🏼 was Alfred trembling like a kid at Christmas 😂 you know the feeling I’m sure 👌🏼😁 it never gets old I meant to send you this link the other day but it’s popped up on my google feed again there’s a few Abu Garcia rods & reels also a few combos with a few on sale I’m sure they would ship to your neck of the woods 🤷🏼♂️ don’t see why not I had a Quick Look at the site & they do lots of other brands & different outdoor activities. I swear by Abu Garcia the quality for such reasonable prices you can’t go wrong but they also do more expensive equipment so it’s not just cheap & cheerful 😂 when I bought my 1st Abu Devil spin rod it was recommended by the guy in the tackle shop he asked where I would be mostly fishing & what for & since my local river isn’t so big & not much room for over head casting he recommended the 5ft 6 UL btw I didn’t even know about ultra light 😬 but boy what a cracking little rod when I get my new rod it will be my 3rd Devil spin rod, after I broke my 1st one I got an Ugly Stik by Shakespeare but it was light action & I really noticed the difference from UL so sold the Ugly Stik & bought another Abu Devil 😈 rod my Wee Brother bought a combo but I can’t remember what model it was but I remember I caught the 1st fish using it lol he went for a pee so I had a few casts just to see how it worked & hooked a nice brown after a couple of casts 😬😁 he wasn’t happy at 1st but soon saw the funny side 🤷🏼♂️ I broke it in for him 😂 here’s the link anyway www.johnnorris.co.uk/ ✌🏼💙🎣🏴👍🏼
@@craigleith100 evening Craig… that’s a great site, lots of good stuff. Alfred has been doing a great job and can’t stop smiling…Cheshire cat from Alice in wonderland for sure and well deserved. I’m presently in Algonquin park trying to track done some big trout; splake, brookies and lake trout. Want some videos if possible. Fishing with a person and his wife whom I met in the late 70’s! He’s a great fisherman so learning lots as I don’t fish lakes. I also have made maple syrup with him for many years and even used my go pro last March to video the daily routine of making the various grades. Check out ‘maple syrup guys’, it was fun. Cheers to you. Thanks for your views and comments! Rob
What part of the world do you and your partner Alfred fishing?
Good morning JP…..as Ftke said a while ago, he’ll never tell you exactly! And that’s right as both Alfred and I both worry that someone who doesn’t catch and release, will wipe these streams out in a season. That would be tragic. So suffice to say that we’re in Ontario. And not to tick you off, but when people ask us where I caught it, I have 2 answers, 1 of which I just this am gave the next door neighbour as she said she’d just watched the latest video, and where did you catch it? I told her bottom left lower jaw in the cartilage. She just looked at me, perplexed. My other answer could have been ‘north of Guelph and just south of James bay.’ Alfred and I are so fortunate to go to these streams and still find both lunkers and surprises. This video fish was certainly a surprise and made us both laugh when we saw up close what we’d caught. So again, I hope no offence taken with my answer as there was certainly none implied from my end. I enjoy seeing your name and we enjoy having you, both watch the video and commenting. Cheers rob
DiCarlo uses the same response…north of Guelph, south of James Bay
@@paulante hi Paul good to see your name. Alfred has certainly been doing a great fishing number recently! figure that location, a giveaway in my mind, gives a sporting chance at locating something good?! Up to Algonquin Thursday-Sunday as a friend has a place there. Big Brook and splake so I’m taking the gp pro. The 1st video of this season, I caught small brookies with him. He said there’ll be a few more substantial looking fish! I can take substantial . Hope you’re healthy and waiting for ball to start next spring. Interesting in Kitchener. Cheers rob

Your private pond again
Evening glen….good to see your name again. It’s a pretty neat stream we’ve found and incredibly productive. Fished here for 40 years and this year has been awesome. Love the wildlife and the browns! And happy to see Alfred come up with a Mr. Big after all the work he’s put into getting the segments into a video. I couldn’t do it. 3 more weeks and the season will close so we’ve got our work cut out for us. Up to a different stream tomorrow but you’ll no doubt see this 1 again, if we catch something! Night and cheers and thanks for watching and commenting..Rob
@@robsleemanwhat part of the world is this?
@@JP-dz7zu evening JP, it’s a pretty incredible part of the world for sure as these browns are awesome. This 1 hole has at least 3 browns 24” and over, plus numerous beaver and other wildlife. It’s so much fun. Ontario would be a good start to find these streams. We’ve been shocked at the size and number of fish caught. And catch and release certainly helps out as I’m sure there have been a few repeat offenders to make the video. Alfred and I were out again today and he latched on to another 26” fish which will become a video in a couple of weeks. Thanks for your repeat views and comments as they are appreciated. Cheers rob
@@JP-dz7zu hi JP, I think I answered in the wrong spot. Not a very techie guy. Cheers
Nice💚💚💚
Good day…good to see your name again. Thanks for viewing and commenting. The big guy mentioned so often, that has eluded us for the past 4 outings will now be in a video as Alfred caught it yesterday, a 26” male beauty! And it’s back where it belongs, perhaps for another video. Again, thanks for saying hello. Cheers rob
I think your fishing a private pond
Evening Glen….nope, it’s a neat little stream that I’ve fished for 40 years. When you pass over the bridge, the water looks terrible so I think people don’t stop as they don’t want to waste their time fishing where there’s nothing! Alfred and I love that kind of thinking. And catch and release has allowed us to come back and catch these guys again. Big browns and nice brookies in the same walk…couldn’t ask for more although I am asking to actually catch a big brown instead of just seeing it! The end is the season approaches and the big guys are wary. Thanks for viewing and giving a comment. They’re always enjoyed. Good health to you. Cheers rob
What kind of rods and line do you use
Hi jasst…because I’m old, I carry 2 with me. And the rods are not long because of the surroundings. The panther Martin rod is 5 1/2’ and a no name. The bait rod is an ugly stick, 6’. I love seeing the pole bend on a strike. I use 4lb test in these streams. Anything bigger might be visible and unfair as I’d like a fight. I realize the line is more susceptible to breaking on logs and branches but I’m ok with that.(until that happens!) thanks for the question, any time. Thanks for viewing. Cheers rob
That is a very cute baby beaver indeed.
Evening Heinzel….that was a pretty cool moment as I’d heard a slash into the water as I approached the bank to fish but saw nothing. Then I saw a large nose appear as a beaver resurfaced. It looked at me and I at her for a minute and then it approached the bank and climbed out. I thought that bizarre and went to check things out. That’s when I realized it was a mom and she was returning to her kit. Again, pretty cool. Thanks for commenting. Appreciated. Cheers rob
Very poor fish handling
Evening…it was a tough day at the stream for sure. Actually was out early this am and pretty sure I saw it again as it has no natural predators but for a non catch and release fisher person. And Hope they’re aren’t too many of those around as these are magnificent fish and this 1 still is. Cheers
Love the commentary. What an amazing memory of one's Dad.
Evening sir…yup, he was a good guy/father. Was always there and loved to get outdoors for that big Brook trout. Great memories. Keep your health Greg. Thanks for the comment. Rob
What part of the world is this?
It's a secret.ive asked and he isn't giving clues. You will have to do some homework to figure it out.i figured it out somewhat but will never give a clue. Watching his videos taught me about the slow water Browns in my area.and I can't catch our big browns..I catch rainbows and brooks, but the big Browns I see are laughing at me .
Evening JP……well it’s north of the 49th and we’re blessed with some neat little streams for sure. A few years ago, like 55 or so, I invested in a topographical map and headed out with a friend. We looked at the map, saw the terrain and figured ‘that’s the spot’. Turns out a lot of them weren’t the spot but we had youth on our side. Great fun and these 3 streams you see in various videos are the end result of years of searching. Again, what can I say. These streams all have water that would be closer to 72oF as browns love that temp. Specks look for 68oF. I’m sure they don’t carry a thermometer with them but that’s what I’ve found. And the browns have been amazing this year. Alfred’s done a bang up jog editing all the segments. Love the visuals that the go pro hero black 9 gives. And you see my hand reaching for my head as I look for the ‘on’ button’. I used to have a verbal ‘on’ command but I got so excited when I’d get a big brown that I’d say the wrong words so Alfred thought it would cause me far less tension if I did the manual start. Alfred is both younger and smarter as it was a great call. Thanks for watching the videos. We absolutely love doing them. It’s casual and the fish are pretty good. Seeing a big brown swirl to the bait, chub tail or pm is exciting beyond words. And I’m trying to follow my daughter’s suggestion , ‘dad, turn the gp on and then cast’. I’m learning. Cheers and good night. Thanks for watching and commenting. Rob
@@Ftke685 and evening to you Ftke. Alfred and I were out this am at 7 and at hole 3, he saw the big guy swimming mid stream off to the left. I told him to go catch it as I went to the 1st part of hole 3 where in video 3 I caught the ‘atonement’ brown after my backwards fiasco of episode 2. I finished with my portion and as I’m crawling over a log, not video worrying any way, Alfred yells out that he’s caught it. I threw down my poles and ran for the net. I saw a huge splash, a tight line, another jump and then very quiet water! He’d left the building, like Elvis. Alfred was distraught. He replayed the ‘catch’ but the fish did not reappear. With these guys it’s 1 and done..he grumbled the entire walk back to the car. He went home and had a nap which was interrupted by a vision of the 30” brown saying adios. So you, Albert and I all know how easy these big guys can make fools of us. He’ll do his best to make this Mr Big I to a video! It was a fun day but we can’t make a video because the fish was sighted and gone within 5 seconds. Next time. Thanks for watching. Keep on trying different techniques for those browns. The browns around here like bait bouncing on the stream bed. They’ll watch it go by and then circle back for the attack. I need to hear from you when success comes. It will. I fished the 1 stream in video 4 from last year, for 3 years before I caught a brown. I knew they were there, I just wasn’t smart enough to understand their habits .thanks for watching and commenting. Alfred and opi both liked today’s comment. Makes everything worthwhile. Cheers rob
Well I was so excited thinking about today’s fish and the browns in general that I called Alfred by his brother’s name! Albert has asked to fish with us but we’re deliberating presently as he doesn’t like stinging nettles, hogweed and tall grasses. Might get him a boat. Cheers
@robsleeman thanks for all the insights ,I love your channel.much love and respect from Ashevill NC
Nice💛💛💛🧡💛
Evening…catching those 2 fish under similar circumstances, 10 weeks apart was a great surprise. They’re beauties and back in the water to be videod again I hope. And I just used the mouthfeel technique to decide what I’d have for dinner! Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting. Alfred and I appreciate that greatly. Good health to you…cheers rob
Awesome fish. Hopefully, you released it.
Evening to you. Can’t remember the last time I kept a fish and then remembered it was for my dad as he’d caught his 1st brown trout. Everything has always been CPR, catch, photo, release. I guess now it’s CVR! That’s the only reason I’ve been so lucky this year with Alfred and past years. Put ‘em back in for another day. Much more beautiful than on a plate once. Thanks for the view and comment. Cheers rob
@@robsleeman what you did was amazing. Never seen such skill. Very well done!
@@deargdoom8743 morning to you..ya, that was pretty amazing that it let me do that! I was somewhat flustered because I had just caught my biggest brown ever only to realize the go pro was on backwards! So I had to try something to show how big the fish was…hence try to pick it up. Surprisingly I just did it again in the video entitled 28” brown and panther Martin mouthfeel. Must be the water! Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers rob
@@deargdoom8743 morning to you. I have to admit, I was quite surprised with the attempt and the result. It was and still is a beauty fish. I realize that I accomplished the same thing with a similar sized brown in the episode with the Panther Martin’s and the 2 fish caught right at the beginning. It was facing the ‘wrong’ way as I wanted it to escape into the deeper water, not swim upstream where it was shallow. So I looked at it then bent down to move it and it allowed me to tail grab it and redirect it. Again, good fun. Hope you like the videos. Alfred does a great job putting the segments together. AND, he was out yesterday with me and latched on to Mr Big. Unfortunately Mr Big did not want his picture taken so he tugged and jumped and was gone in 5 seconds. We’re hoping for a video next time out. Again, thanks for watching and commenting. It’s appreciated by both of us. Cheers rob
That's a tank
Evening Allen…I have to agree as that’s the biggest brown I’ve ever caught. It would have been nice to see the full catch in episode 2 but I had the gp on backwards. Talk about being depressed after catching it but only taping the trees!! Had some well deserved comments at the end of that video. Thanks for watching, it’s been a terrific season for catching big browns in small streams. Cheers…brown trout guy
Congratulate the grandkids for me Rob 💯👌🏼😉😁👍🏼🏴
Ya, the boys made everyone smile as they were excited to ‘move up’ and they performed well. Same ball, same pitching machine a good attitude and just older kids!! Great results. Cheers rob
Unlucky Rob my friend 🤷🏼♂️ it happens to the best of us lovely Brookie though 😁👍🏼🏴
Good day to you Craig….ya, what a ticker for sure but to see 3 of those biggies in a 2 hr span is pretty awesome. How I fished is decidedly less awesome. A quick complain to you about my go pro. I can film the segments and then download them to my cloud but I can no longer open each segment up to view to decide if Alfred needs to see it too. Went to the iPad Apple Store, iPad is fine and updated so no problem from that end. Went to where I purchased go pro and they spent an inordinate time trying to fix the problem, no go. They both said there are lots of complaints on the website by owners of gp who have the same problem. Both stores said that until go pro fixes the bug in the app, nothing will change……so if you know anyone who can help, tell ‘em to call because go pro is avoiding the issue and not giving any help what. The community help has entered the picture but they have no solution. End of rant! I’m better, thanks. Always good to see your name, cheers, Rob
i’ve always been told its a bad omen to catch one first cast😅
Evening 21, funny you’d say that. E1 and 8 this year were 1st casts and 1 was special as the 2nd cast caught something that I couldn’t land, operator error. And E 4 was the last cast/try of the day, a huge female. So I guess catching them is the thing, I have not much input as to when! Thanks for watching. This o
I’m not very good at technology. Wanted to say, this 1 was a beauty as the video shows 2 1st casts. Again, thanks for watching and hope you’re catching on any cast you want! Cheers brown trout guy
Trout handling is insane. Plus swinging him back and forth with the water. 😣
Morning to you….about 25 years ago I ‘lost’ a good sized fish. The hook had gone down its throat too far so I couldn’t extract it easily. Tough to watch. For some reason since then, I’ve been fortunate to have the hook/lure attach to the cartilage by the mouth making the hook release much simpler and much less stressful for the fish. Getting the fish’s strength back after the catch and then release has worked well as the fish pulls away from me when it feels strong enough to go. And some have been caught several times a year with no apparent long term disability as evidenced by the strength of the subsequent catch. Thanks for your comment. Cheers..brown trout guy
😂 The Branch is very common over here 😂 my trip out the other day I managed to cast way up into the trees a few times until I found my rhythm 😬 I use Mustad snap hooks when spinning for quick & easy change of spinners but on 1 cast down stream my Mepps just hooked into a sheet of wood 🤦🏼♂️ but before I knew what it was I snagged i tugged the rod & I thought my spinner came back over my head but as I got to the end of the line it was just my snap hook 🤔 that was a 1st but I knew roughly where I had cast on the opposite bank & the water is really low atm so I found my little Mepps 😁👍🏼 it’s another good reason to having waders I’d have lost plenty if it weren’t for the fact I wear chest waders & id be out of pocket those things aren’t cheap & if it means climbing a tree or wading out into dealer water I’m gonna do it 😉 Take care my friend & Tight lines ✌🏼💙🎣🏴👍🏼
Don’t know how I ended up using my panther Martin size 6 but I too have gone to great lengths to retrieve an errant cast. I resented losing $8 on a bad cast. The 1 in the video is a little too far out of my reach. Saw it the other day. Willmlook good as the leaves turn into their fall colours in September. Cheers
It was actually an old Panther Martin that got me into using spinners to catch trout 6/7 years ago I had always used worms & maggots but one day as I was roaming the riverbank I saw this little brass thing hanging in a tree attached to fishing line it must have been there for some time as it was pretty beat up & had no shine to it but I tied it onto my line & caught 2 trout in the same hole within 5 minutes now I always get excited when I hook into a fish but this was a different feeling actually seeing this fish come out of nowhere & smashing that little spinner was an amazing sight I haven’t looked back since although I’m now trying to get into fly fishing I’ll never stop spinning it’s just a pity so many people over here frown on using spinners & are banned in a lot of rivers 🤷🏼♂️ just thought I’d share that 😉😁👍🏼🏴
Thanks for those thoughts. Isaak Walton would probably take note however at the size of these browns in the new world and the reverence with which we treat them. They’re there for another day. Cheers
Oh boy 😮 what a Corker Rob 💯👌🏼😁 only in my dreams 20 inches is my biggest weakness just don’t get fish that big near me unless it’s at a fishery & I refuse to pay just to catch stocked fish take care & Tightlines my friend 😉 thanks for the mention or bragging 😂 ✌🏼💙🎣🏴👍🏼
Morning soon to you Craig…Alfred and I have been so fortunate this year finding these lurkers! They have surpassed our expectations. And, they make us smile as we’re really having fun doing this. Alfred’s editing makes me smile and I think it makes him smile too. Thanks for watching. Your biggie is just around the next bend. Cheers rob
I’m amazed how you net those big fish by yourself
Evening Paul…ya, they are a challenge but that net with that huge margin of error allows me to scoop and hope as I lift it to the bank. Alfred there would certainly help, but you know about those day jobs, they get in the way. I guess next coffee meeting could discuss my groaning as I just can’t seem to avoid it. And I don’t hear it when I’m concentrating on netting. See you and the others soon at the ball park. Thanks for watching. Cheers, Rob
What state you live in
Evening to you…north of the 49th but in southern Ontario. Lots of great streams and creeks. Thanks for viewing. I think I’ve seen your ‘name’ before. Cheers
Hi again…I knew I’d seen your name before as you had commented on the catch in E4. I’m sure they have some hidden stream gems in NC?! Thanks for viewing. Cheers
hi to you. Was watching news and realized Asheville Took a direct hit from Helene. Floods look horrible. Alfred and I are thinking about you and the devastation you or friends could be facing. Sincerely rob and Alfred
What a beauty Rob 💯✌🏼💙🎣🏴👍🏼
Yes indeed. Alfred wants to put out a few more shorts. They’re such an impressive fish when they’re angry. Love seeing the head shakes. Wonder how 4lb test stands up, but it has so far. Luck for sure plays a large part. I enjoyed your videos. Pretty neat in downtown Edinburgh! Cheers rob
Nice is that a lake run fish
Hi again. Hope this message works. Don’t no where last 1 went. Glad to see your name. These big guys stay in the small stream, I guess to have their picture taken! Thanks for watching. Take care..rob
Ha….’no’ would be ‘know’!! Cheers
Why are you left of center?
Good day. Had to think about that question and then look at the car. I’m not in England. I was searching for the safest way down the slippery farmer’s lane and that was having my wheels on a grassy section on the left with the other 2 tires on the hump in the middle or close so I wouldn’t rip out the undercarriage. Was going to try the same spot soon so I’ll think about that when I go down that slope again! Thanks for the view. Cheers. brown trout guy
Nice one. Liked the vid. Just subscribed to the channel. Keep them coming and good luck
Thanks for the view and subscription. Was out this am, without Alfred and caught a 29” brown. Absolutely amazing to see. Alfred will be busy putting this video together when he gets back! We’ve been very fortunate this season. Again thanks Brown trout guy
@robsleeman nice. Well good luck.
Upper Michigan or Canada?
Afternoon Bill. Just noticed your question. Streams look similar I think as I recall driving through the UP on our way to kenora. That area and northern Minnesota are beautiful. Your answer would be southern Ontario. We’re going through a heat wave presently with high humidity so my buddy and I are hanging close to home…too hot for us and the fish. Cheers..Rob
I wish we had smaller streams like this over her but the 3 rivers near me are all full of boulders & bricks which makes wading very treacherous 😬
Having a solid bed underneath makes fishing a lot easier for sure. The creek beds Where we fish are becoming impossible to navigate as the weeds and grasses are quite high making safe walking a slow process. And the weather has been conducive for growth, obscuring holes and fallen limbs. The 3 streams we fish have deep holes and steep banks so although I wear hip waders, they’re more for keeping the stinging nettles at bay. Also need a new left boot but I guess that means a right one too! Cheers to you and good health. Hope you land a good one. Rob
Congrats on a year pal 😉👍🏼 I got a nice delivery this morning for all the bits & pieces I ordered online but Thursday & Friday were lovely weather wise but too hot & sunny for fishing so I planned to go out today as it said it would be cooler & overcast but it’s pissed down all day & more of the same tomorrow I’m going insane I need to get out & cast a line 🤷🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️ good to see you catching as you always do 💯👌🏼 hopefully the next message I send I’ll have been out 🤞🏼 thanks for the mention I appreciate that 😁 you take it easy & Tight lines ✌🏼💙🎣🏴👍🏼 Craig 😎
Morning Craig…1 of these days you’ll get out. Weather here has been not ideal for getting out as it’s been waaayyyy too humid. A possible early morning outing, that’s it. Alfred wants to get out also. Would assume footie will be on the telly tonight. I’m looking for an England win. Cheers rob
And thanks on the congrats. We’ve had fun on the streams for sure and Alfred does a great job putting the segments together. Fish, the big guys, are getting a little harder to film with the hot weather. Hopefully get out this week as Alfred wants a crack at finding big mama! Me too. Health to you. Cheers rob
@@robsleeman Hey Rob my good Friend 💯👍🏼 sorry for the late reply I don’t always check my notifications 😬 I’ve still not been out 🤦🏼♂️ I missed what surely would have been a great evening session with my wee Brother but Craig Jnr was off work I’ll do we didn’t have dinner until 7:30 ish my Brother had called me to see if I wanted to go out but I had just started cooking & I missed a great evening out my Brother called me several times telling me he’d caught some nice wild browns & there were plenty rising fish going for almost every fly he cast to them 😡 to say I am gutted is an understatement I’m certain I would have caught my 1st brown on the fly but it wasn’t to be so weather permitting we’ve planned a full day trip over the weekend so please 🙏🏼 you & Albert keep your fingers crossed 🤞🏼 for me so we get decent weather 😁 as for the footie I thought England were going to wi after they equalised but it wasn’t to be 🤷🏼♂️ take it easy my friend & Tight lines I’ll catch up after the weekend & hopefully have good news 😁 I wanted to ask if you would watch this short video around 3 minutes long of a nice wild brown I caught it wasn’t a monster but for the river I caught it on it was a decent fish 🤷🏼♂️ I have maybe 20 vids up of some of my catches but since I’ve never been able to afford a decent go pro with all the accessories I’ve always had to use the camera on my phone & its always after I’ve hooked the fish which is annoying as I’d love to have footage of me actually hooking into the fish but I have to wait until their hooked 🤷🏼♂️ anyway I’m proud of this video I hope you watch as I filmed the whole thing with my phone & rod in my right hand & reeling in with my left please excuse some foul language but I get all giddy & excited whenever I catch a fish & you’ll here me talking to someone called John who is my wee Brother his real name is Jaimie but we call each other John after my late Grandpa & I talk to him in most of my vids so without further ado ua-cam.com/video/tOetOscByeQ/v-deo.htmlsi=J-Rr2pRIgDRXtC-t
I had to take my time landing this fish as I use a 5ft 6 UL rod & had on very light line I thought it was bigger than it actually was also filming at the same time I didn’t want to lose it so played it until it was tired I had lost my net on a previous outing so had to land it with my hand I say on the video it was just over 15 inches but I reckon it was bigger at this time it was among the biggest brown I’d ever caught I’ve got another short vid I’ll link here it’s from my local city centre river which I’ve fished for about 40 years but up until about 5/6 years ago I always used worms & maggots but never caught anything over a pound weight but I still loved it size didn’t matter to me I just love that feeling of hooking into a nice wild brown I’m like a kid at Christmas the adrenaline takes over & whatever I say on video I can’t control 😂 I’ve since caught a few fish around the 3lb mark but definitely nothing bigger than that but this fish in this very short (1minute) video is to show you the average size for that small urban river that runs right through Edinburgh city centre & in most parts of the river it’s hard to believe it’s right in the city centre there are some beautiful spots here it is ua-cam.com/video/ibPdCc-H0qU/v-deo.htmlsi=3_HwVdHiZp8ukrrM
@@craigleith100 you sound excited! Nice to catch any size of brown for sure. I know the feeling of 1 handed fishing. When I used my camera for the stills, I had the camera in my left hand trying to click a pic and the pole in my right hand, struggling to keep the fish on. The brown in the top caption of the sight is the last picture I took that way.and I landed it without a net. Alfred took a camera picture of his 23” brown from a month ago. He thought of using his video on the camera but decided to land the fish and tell the story. Cheers to you. Perseverance is on your side. Cheers…rob
I’ll never go fishing without a net again ✌🏼💙🎣🏴👍🏼
I didn’t use a net for the longest time. Alfred was amazed when he saw how I was ‘landing’ good sized browns. And I missed a few. When I started gp, I figured I’d better not lose a fish while hand landing it, hence my room for error net. I’m with you now on the net thing! Cheers rob
How’s it going my man ? All good I hope 🤞🏼 I would choose the net on the left for the fishing you do but if I was wading I’d use the wooden handled one I’m mostly wading so I use a shorter handled net but it’s big & round & deep like the net on the left I’ve had no problems with it thus far 🤷🏼♂️ finally I’m going out tomorrow I just need to pick up a few bits & pieces from the Angling store then I’m off so keep your fingers crossed for me I’ll be spinning & dry fly fishing so hoping to finally catch a wild brown on the fly 😁 I’ll let you know how I get on & share any footage take care my friend ✌🏼💙🎣🏴👍🏼 Craig 👋🏼 Ooops I forgot to put the link 😬 here it is but remember I somehow managed to film it upside down so lock your screen rotation to watch it this was the 1st of 2 lovely browns I lost that night as I had no net ua-cam.com/video/uvcY4Lp2l0Q/v-deo.htmlsi=HYXdlki2IXSmTh9H
Early good morning to you Craig. I certainly hope you get out today and a dry fly or 2 are tested by a brown or 2! Only seems fair. Weather here has been incredibly humid, 36-40oC, so no fishing for Alfred or me as heat stroke comes on fast, I’m told. I’d rather just hear about it. Thanks for your comments, always happy to see your name. I’ll check out the website address. Cheers Rob
I ALWAYS carry a net. Im surprised u didnt lol
Evening to you…..live and learn….old dog new tricks? Lots of things could apply to my fishing capabilities or lack there of. I am with you now as a net, whatever type will be with me for sure. Good to see your name again. Cheers rob
Get waders and stand in the water to prevent you beaching the trout or having to release them in the mud. Both cause high mortality. Just get waders and wade out a few feet from shore for the sake of the fish. Either net would work
Evening….I will have to work that out as some of the holes are very deep and some of the banks are slippery leading to deep water. I would not like to become a statistic as i understand your fish concern. Cheers and thanks for the comment.
