In this video, I'm unboxing, installing, and setting up a Honeywell Home 7 Day Programmable Switch model # RPLS740B. It can be used to control various lights or even some motors. Here, I'm using it to control the outside lights on the front porch. This switch has a permanent memory for settings in the event of a power outage, and does not require any batteries to preserve the settings. It also has a much easier 3-button interface for operation and setup. It also includes a table of longitudes and latitudes for many cities and configuration settings on the switch so that you can input your longitude and latitude for more accurate calculation of sunrise and sunset times. Overall, I've been very happy with this switch. It is a big step up from older programmable switches.
Always shut off power to the entire junction box, including all switches and outlets in the box--not just for the particular switch you are working on, because some boxes may include wires that are connected to different circuit breakers. Also, do not rely on simply switching a circuit breaker to "off". TEST the power at the wires before you begin working to VERIFY that the power has been shut off.
