Replacing a sound-dampening pad under a stainless steel sink
In this video, I show you how to replace a sound-dampening pad under a stainless steel kitchen sink. As you can see, I noticed that one of the pads was detaching from the exterior bottom surface of the sink and was leaving a messy residue underneath. I purchased a Sinkology SDAMP9 6 in. x 6 in. 70 mil kit on Amazon (search for ASIN B01N3JJWID). The kit contains 9 pads, although I only ended up using one of them. I first removed the old pad and residue from the bottom of the sink. After thoroughly cleaning the surface, I pressed the replacement pad against the exterior bottom surface of the sink, using a block of wood with rounded corners to help ensure even pressure across the surface of the pad.

    Hey! Thank you for the video. I am about to replace my rear speakers on my 1985 coupe. Do you remember which side of the care the wires from both rear speakers are placed/hid, all the way up to the radio?

    • @LongologoProductions
      @LongologoProductions День тому

      I just looked at the shop manual and it shows, in Fig. 10-9, for the “4 door right shroud wiring - B - Chevrolet”, that the rear speaker wiring for feed and return (LT blue, DK blue, Yellow, Brown) for both left rear and right rear speakers runs down the shroud in front of the front passenger door to the floor and then towards the back of the car. I don’t see another diagram specific to the coupe. So I can’t say for sure whether it would be the same for the coupe or not. But the wiring colors should be the same, so perhaps you could follow them back from the rear speakers to see if they all connect and go up on the passenger side or not. I hope that helps and good luck.

    Drain the water faster by running your outside hose to drain system.

    • @LongologoProductions
      @LongologoProductions 3 дні тому

      That only really works if the outside hose is at or below the level of the faucet you are working on. In my case the faucet is in a basement utility room and all outside hose bibs are at least 8 feet above the faucet, so this won’t work for me. But it might help if your faucet is above the height of the hose bib. Hopefully though you can just shut off the water at the shutoff valves underneath the sink and you don’t have to shut off water to the whole house. Anyway thanks for commenting.

    Thanks for the video. Was there a reason you did not run the camera wires up the interior trim to the top of the liftgate (high mounted brake light) and pass through the existing wiring to the liftgate instead of running through the tail light? Curious of there was any obstructions.

    • @LongologoProductions
      @LongologoProductions 13 днів тому

      I think it had to do with where the existing openings are in the metal and where it made most sense to run the wires with the least headaches. There might be other ways that are better, but this was most straightforward for my situation. For this car, I remember exploring a couple of different options but settled on what I used as being the least hassle despite how much effort it still required. Either way I still had to remove trim around the tailgate to get that camera mounted and run wiring back through there. Then it was a question of connecting it through to what I was running down the length of the driver side of the car behind that trim. Anyway hope this video helps you.

Remove two glass belt line, support clips and trim support retainer (9 and 8, Figs. 5-61 and 5-65). 3. Slide glass straight down (glass suction cups may help) and remove from inboard side of door. 4. To install, first spray glass, run channel with silicone spray or liquid soap solution, then reverse removal procedure. Tighten attaching screws with hand screwdriver.” Fig. 5-65 shows that “8” (trim support retainer) is a piece located at the front of the rear door in front of the door lock mechanism and it looks like there is a single screw perpendicular to the inside surface of the door. “9” (glass support clips) are shown in the figure as two sort of U-shaped clips that support the glass from the bottom and each having a screw perpendicular to the inside surface of the rear door. What I can’t tell from the pictures and the diagrams is whether any of the interior sheet metal is blocking access to these screws or whether any of the rivets on the inside of the door would need to be drilled out. It seems like there are enough openings on the inner metal that you could partially roll the window down to access, the two glass support clips. You might also be able to access the screw for the trim support retainer through one of the holes in the interior sheet metal. Let me know whether this helps.

      No. I put it on the top at around 6:36 because if I had put it on the bottom then the U-bolt and nuts would be extending downward toward the ground and further reduce ground clearance. The bottom of that hitch is already so close to the ground that I don’t want to risk a bump or scrape along the road, shaving off or damaging the U-bolt or nuts. It works perfectly fine in the orientation shown in the video and avoids anything sticking down below the bottom of the hitch mount itself.

    How can I get the vacuum hose connections for a 1988 caprice

    • @LongologoProductions
      @LongologoProductions Місяць тому

      This can be quite difficult. I assume you no longer have the sticker under the hood showing the vacuum connections for the rudimentary emissions controls in a high level diagram. This sticker is shown on the fan shroud over the radiator in my video. I would then look to the shop manual for the 1988, as well as online for any under-the-hood images of 1988 cars with the same engine configuration as yours. Sorry I can’t be more help.

    i CAN'T get the handle off. Feels like something is holding it on from inside. The dome screws off easily and the handle is loose but won't pop off. I'm afraid to break it.

      Sometimes it just needs to be jiggled just right…. Try some different motions and angles with gentle pressure.

    I cant get the Allen bolt out

    • @LongologoProductions
      @LongologoProductions Місяць тому

      First, make sure you have any gunk cleaned out of the bolt head so your Allen wrench can fully grip the bolt head. Second, make sure you have a long enough arm on the Allen wrench to give some leverage. Third, consider putting a drop of liquid wrench behind the bolt head and let it soak in for 30 minutes or so and then try to remove it. I hope that helps.

    I have a 89 and my reverse lights stay on when car is in drive. You got any ideas what will cause that?

    • @LongologoProductions
      @LongologoProductions 2 місяці тому

      @@JDP15 not off hand. Sorry. Do the brake lights also stay on? Do the reverse lights stay on only when the car is in drive and the headlights are on or even if the headlights are off?

    What about if it's leaking from the knob that turns it on? Same style as the one in this video.

    What size Allen key

    • @LongologoProductions
      @LongologoProductions 2 місяці тому

      I didn’t note it because the Allen key came with the replacement parts. I’d have to find it now and check. But it should be compatible with a size from a standard set.
