Why I chose this 39.7" 5K2K Ultrawide Display (ft. Lenovo P40w-20)

Upgraded to a 39.7” 5K2K ultrawide display - the Lenovo ThinkVision P40w-20. This is a 21:9 aspect ratio 2500R curved ultrawide display with support for Thunderbolt 4, and a built-in KVM (or more like a KM since the hardware button only switches USB). But the story didn’t start with this Lenovo display - I actually bought a HP Z40c first, but it came defective. Watch on to see what happened. Ge...

Updating my Workspace (for the thirteenth time)
Great content
I've been debating buying two for a dual setup to replace my current dual setup.
Hi, great video, considering this monitor. You mention someone might be better off with two 4K 32” Like the P32w-30. This will give you even larger playroom. I am a bit split between those two options, can you elaborate on why you did not go for the dual 32” option instead?
1:30 gray or silver?? it looks like silver
Very well articulated.
Are the speakers loud and clear enough for audio calls? Also, do you know the pixel pitch of this monitor? I am trying to understand if its panel width is same as 27" 4k monitor? Finally, can it automatically switch coding mode on and off when switching between coding editor and other apps?
Thanks, that was very helpful!
Hey my friend. I can buy this new monitor for 400$ (no warranty though bc it's through a third party). I plan to use it for literally everything - movies, PC games, reading PDFs and ebooks, video editing, and everyday internet browsing. I got scared because I just read some really bad reviews of ghosting and smearing and there text isn't RGB but something else so it's supposedly not so pleasant. I need help deciding, please. If it helps, my GPU is 7900XT.
What kind of resolution do you use on this on mac? do you use it as if it was 2560 in horizontal dimension? how's the scaling? cause its not 2x but 1.smthin.. i dont think it should be used as 1920 cause the contend wpuld be too big.
Please what typing game is that
Thank you! Still useful 4 years down the road!
My RD280U just arrived today. Nice monitor, 4K is crisp and colors are nice. 60 hz isn't the best and text scrolling could be better but the 3:2 ratio is just sooo good. KVM feature works well with keyboard, mouse, and webcam connected to easily move between my personal windows pc and usb-c work laptop. Also the backlight is a nice feature I didn't really need but it makes a difference in my setup.
This monitor is exactly as wide as a 27", but almost 3" taller. I don't think people realize how huge it is because they're thinking 28" isn't much bigger than 27" but the aspect ratio here is 3:2 not 16:9 like almost every other monitor 27-32", it is in fact almost as large as a 32" 16:9 ratio, but with higher 4K resolution (2560 vertically instead of 2160).
I currently use a 30 inch dell but it's 16:10 and it looks HUUUGE compared to even a 30 inch 16:9 monitor. This monitor is 3:2 so it's even more squared off. It's going to feel pretty big for most people.
@@Geardos1 sounds good, except there is no such thing as a 30" 16:9 monitor. All 30" monitors ever made were 16:10. Not that that makes any difference for the point we're making. Thanks
very well explained
VESA mount???
Hi did you kept the monitor or it were too huge? Are you satisfied by colour rendition for some photo editing? Thx
How is the qiality of the metal surrounding? I am thinking of getting the z18, but i am unsure wether paying such a premium for such an unknown company/case.
Would you still recommend this in 2024 for 680$ usd?
Wow, really cool. Very well done
That's an awesome desk, where did you buy it?
This is a desk from Taobao
@@kalestarlerI’m more impressed by the lamp and fireplace haha
Even though this is a few yrs old, thank you for good video. I wish you did a test where your second node, in your bedroom, connected to a device with ethernet to see the speed difference. So it would be wireless backhaul configuration, with ethernet to a device. But, still good video :D
Thanks for your Video and your effort. A 1440p Monitor is to Slim...not big enough to have a good gaming feeling ( for me at Last). So this Monitor is absolutly perfect for gaming in 1440p and 2160p. I use a GTX 3080 TI ( payed 2 years for it) and i would realy like to use a Monitor this size. ( ..not rich enough) for MSFS 202 or Nascar Heat 5...or for other games. Yeah 60 HZ is enough.
Long waited on the matrix that was used in Huawei MateView but from decent vendor and such a shame. 1. Lack of USB-C ports. 2. Speakers 2W?? Insanely little. My latitude 7200 2-in-1 sounds better 3. Audio Jack just out, no mic in 4. 7.5 W charging power for your mobile device. Seriously? 5. No Etherley. 50/50
6. 5 Mbit usb speed
very similar specs to MateView resolution, contrast but 400 instead of 500 nits.
When is the 32 inch coming out?
Should be September
This is almost as large as a 32" 16:9 ratio because it is 3:2 ratio. It is as wide as a 27" 16:9 but almost 3 inches taller. That is only a little smaller than a 32" 16:9. The difference is they add the inches at the top, not the width. I doubt they'll ever make a 3:2 32", makes no sense as it would be too tall.
What is the wake-from-sleep time of this monitor when using macOS?
Do you mean if I wake my MacBook from sleep, how long it takes for the monitor to turn on? Hmmm. I never really measured this
@kalestarler Yes. Almost all monitors are very slow to wake from sleep, except the Apple Studio Display, which is instant.
Is this model sell at Singapore?
Yes, it just started selling this month! You should be able to find it on Shopee/Lazada etc.
I just wish it was 120 Hz. I'm so used to 120 Hz gaming panels at this point, even for work, it's just hard to go backwards. (Then again, I've always been sensitive to 60 Hz refresh since the days of CRTs. Had to set them to 75 Hz or I got migraines.)
I second this. And I hate how 120 Hz is synonymous with “gaming”. Any monitor that isn’t 120 Hz minimum is an absolute deal breaker for me.
High refresh rate will lead to worse picture quality and worse quality control e.g. more defects and backlight bleed. "bUt I nEeD 120hZ fOr bRoW-" Stop playing competitive sweaty games and branch out for once! You cringy gamers need to stop forcing everything to be gaming-focused for your corrupted minds.
Thanks for this very helpful video. Your excel information was so practical and exactly what I wanted to know, except that you didn't mention rows. I'm trying to work out how many rows would be visible on a 43 inch 4K Dell Ultrasharp vs a 40" 5k like this one. Any ideas?
Going by native resolution wise, 5K would have more columns, same number of rows. Text would feel much smaller on the 5K though
I love lenovo but you just made that even higher in rating for me. Display and Laptop wise i close my eyes and ears on else other than lenovo Great content
Guys, help please! I have a macbook air 2012 mid and already replaced the thermal past, but using less then 50% of the cpu it gets around 90~100º! D; Any ideias of what I could do?
Actually honestly, I would recommend upgrading. At this point that machine is about 12 years old. If you're on a budget, maybe you could look into a refurbished M1 MacBook Air?
Good video, thanks. Question, how did you connect your desktop computer to the monitor, allowing it to use the cam, speakers and other features in the monitor?
From my desktop PC, it's 1 DisplayPort and 1 USB cable to access display and USB hub on the monitor
Can i put only one in a dead-spot? Or must i buy 2
I would recommend a minimum of 2 units, 1 to act as the main router and 1 as a secondary node to extend to any deadspot
I can see this avaulabke on their wesbite is it badk available or am i getting scammed
Thank you for the review, Could the monitor light possibly counteract the blue light filtering of the monitor? lol :-)
You mean the screenbar light? Hmmm. I think they solve different problems!
Hi guys Does it have Audio? Thanks
No built-in speakers
very cool, i was thinking of using a keyboard pad, but your setup in nice
It depends what you're doing, but I think for work that is an ergonomic downgrade going from the ultrawide to that. My neck got strained after some months. Too much up and down, the ultrawide feels like two monitors in one.
I think if you're sitting far back enough it might work. But I also do love my ultrawides (my current daily driver is still an ultrawide)
how is it now ? still using? I think if sitting close- then its non-ergonomic- too close, if sitting further then text is too small...so.. no point in 43', its too big for multipurpose monitor. Tthey are good for console gaming.
Not anymore, that unit was a temporary loan. Driving a 39.7" ultrawide these days!
It is more than 1 year already. Are you still using this same portable monitor ? How often do you travel with it? Is it always in your bag? My concerns are regarding to its durability. Saw many posts on reddit telling that OLED displays are very very very fragiles. Do you think this is the case for Asus Zenscreen OLED in the model you are using? Please let us know what you think ;) Thank you!
This Asus OLED unit was a temporary loan, so I don't have it with me anymore. I do have another 13.3" portable display, but I usually only bring it with me if I'm traveling for work for at least 2 weeks or more
Can you pour water from the water pitcher when there's still unfiltered water in the upper part?
I usually wait till it all goes into the main tank
Neat!
Thanks!
Good review, informative and engaging. Good job sir.
Thank you!

Is vesa mount 100mm?
Yes, 100x100 VESA works
Hi, great review. Do you think the need to sit further back from the monitor negates the advantages of buying a bigger monitor?
I think there's probably a sweet spot! If you're too far back, it's probably only good for videos and movies (and some games). For work, you can't be too far back to read text. I guess it's more about what the primary usage is for this workspace
