  • Managed to squeeze a 120mm AIO cooler into the tiny AKLLA A4v2 ITX case!
    Was using a Noctua NH-L12S previously, "upgraded" to an AIO to cool my hot 105W TDP AMD Ryzen 5900X.
    Performance still isn't stellar, but I think I did manage to make the whole PC a lot quieter.
    Specs:
    AMD Ryzen 5900X
    Gigabyte B550I Aorus Pro AX
    32GB Klevv Bolt X 3200MHz RAM
    EVGA RTX 3080 XC3 Ultra
    Western Digital SN750 1TB
    Western Digital SN550 1TB
    Corsair SF750 PSU
    Thermaltake Water 3.0 120 ARGB Sync AIO
    AKLLA A4v2 ITX Case
    Current PBO settings:
    120 PPT
    EDC TDC motherboard max
    Scalar 3x
    0 MHz Boost Offset
    Curve Optimiser all cores -10
    Thermal limit 80C
    Will be tweaking these further!
    Get it on Amazon:
    Thermaltake Water 3.0 120 ARGB Sync AIO: geni.us/dQWJQn
    (I was surprised to find this cheaper and in stock on Amazon SG when I was buying it, compared to my usual Lazada/Shopee!)
    Disclaimer: I get a small kickback when you purchase products through my Amazon affiliate links. Thanks for the support!

    Huh, I expected more of a benefit to the AIO. At least it looks badass. Next step for me is to put a bigger (25mm) fan on the AIO by raising the PSU and cut the bottom of the case out under the fan to allow better airflow. Pray for me.

    • @kalestarler
      @kalestarler  3 роки тому

      If you raise the PSU, it wouldn't be able to fit a fan on top of it? Would love to see how a 25mm fan performs though!

    Hey Kale, Happy new year!
    Well this is just the video I was looking for! I'm now at the point of deciding how to cool my processor inside my Aklla A4v2. I'm running a 65w Ryzen 5 3600 (I'm planning to upgrade in the near future).
    Regarding the installation of the AIO, did you have to drill the psu bracket and move the psu back to fit the tubes?
    I'm also concerned about the AIOs orientation, while the pump being higher than the radiator, air will eventually develop and store in the pump, although this will only shorten the pumps lifespan. Also, you mentioned that your bottom fan is on intake now, why don't leave it in exhaust? I've seen a couple videos saying that the most efficient way to dissipate heat from a radiator is by pulling air through instead of pushing through.
    Performance wise, I saw you had no significant gains, however noise levels are lower, and that's something to consider.
    After experiencing both coolers, would you rather stick with the AIO or the Noctua NH-L12S?
    Great videos! Keep it going!

      Happy new year!
      I did not have to drill the PSU bracket, not for this Thermaltake AIO, the tubes fit fine with the default bracket position.
      Indeed, with the pump higher than the radiator, there is occasional sounds of trickling water, likely from air bubbles forming at the pump. I don't think it is something to be too worried about, I don't think I'm expecting to use this AIO unit for too many years.
      I haven't tried the fan on exhaust yet actually, something that I want to tinker with one of these weekends.
      I am quite pleased with the reduced noise levels.
      Overall, I'm opting to stick with the AIO because of the noise levels and RGB. But if I was using a 65W TDP chip, I think the L12S would more than suffice.
      Thanks for the support and compliments!

    this looks like a dan a4 case with the Asetek's New 645LT AIO 92mm. all the tests of thermals show veeeery good improvement over the air cooling, I wonder how can you not get better temps? did you measure them well? You only did benchmark but not a temp benchmark?

    • @kalestarler
      @kalestarler  3 роки тому

      The chip has a default max of 90C. I lowered it to 80C. So on either the AIO or air cooler, it would both hit the max temp. However, differences lie in the benchmark score and the speed of the fans. Hence overall performance seem to be very similar...
      One difference might be that this case does take a slightly larger air cooler compared to the Dan A4

    • @GATOtyger
      @GATOtyger 3 роки тому

      @@kalestarler how about the air cooler with open side panel? Would it get better temps than AIO?
      So given the difficulty in cooling it, would it be lower performance comparable to 5800x or others?

    • @kalestarler
      @kalestarler  3 роки тому

      If you're comparing 5800X, I think single-core scores are still comparable and multi-core scores way ahead still. But loses to the average 5900X in a larger case with beefier cooler.
      Comparing 120mm AIO to an L12S, I would recommend sticking to the L12S. Cheaper and less components to worry about in the longer term.
      I don't have very clear numbers to compare against unless I put back in the L12S, I did not tweak the CPU as much when I was using it previously (e.g. playing around with the curve optimiser). But with fans at max, AIO does perform better than air cooler, but not a significant difference, and for normal use, I don't intend to use fans at max on either setups. My goal was a relatively quiet PC

    Which is quiestest? Both at idle and load? L12S or your AIO? Do you hear pump noise while in idle? Which did you prefer of the two solutions?

    • @kalestarler
      @kalestarler  2 роки тому +1

      I prefer the L12S actually.
      Right now I'm using a 240mm radiator mounted in a topcap though, the orientation makes a difference. The pump does make occasional noises if radiator is below the pump - radiator above the pump is a better configuration (has to do with where the air pocket sits within this water loop)

    Hi, just a quick question, how about adding a taller feet to help your aio fan airflow? Will this make a significant difference?

    • @kalestarler

      Hmmm. It might, but might not be significant. Maybe I can try by propping up the case for a bit

  • @VeryBigBoi

    Could the issue with the aio not working as well as expected be because the radiator is positioned below the pump/cpu? May be an air bubble in the pump block because of this.

    • @kalestarler

      Some cores have the potential to be pushed a lot further. But it feels like a lot of hassle to keep testing through changes across 12 cores lol.
      The other hard part is that the instability doesn't always show at high loads, but at low or mid ones, so I haven't been able to test it out more
