Cedar Chest Build Part 2
Переглядів 1,1 тис.11 місяців тому
In video two of the cedar chest build I created the lid, drawer and trim, I then added three coats of water based Polyurethane and added Aromatic Red Cedar lining to the inside. This was a challenging build for me and I learned several new skills. I was able to make a couple new jigs and tools to help with this build. The plans for all of these can be found on my Etsy store as well as the plans...
Cedar Chest Build Part 1
Переглядів 7 тис.11 місяців тому
In video one of the cedar chest build I create the main box. I wanted to challenge myself on this build, so I decided to create curved elements for the front and side panels. By doing this it lengthened the build time. I did create plans for this build that you can find at my Etsy store. I also included links for the different router bits and tools I used. An Alternative to the Festool Domino
Переглядів 2,5 тис.Рік тому
A lot of us weekend woodworkers want to up our woodworking abilities but would rather spend money on the wood instead of expensive tools. This video is to show you how you can make a jig that will do the same thing as the Festool Domino at a fraction the cost. Watch to the very end to see how you could win something from this video. I will pick the winner on November 25th 2023. Etsy link to the...
Horizontal router table build for making curved wood trim.
Переглядів 2,6 тис.Рік тому
I have a project coming up in which the design calls for curved wood trim and I had no way to make that trim without a horizontal router table. Purchasing one was not in my budget so I went about designing and making one out of left over wood I had in my shop. I have plans available in my Etsy store. Twotrees laser TTS-55 and adding limit switches
Переглядів 15 тис.2 роки тому
I purchased a Twotrees TTS-55 laser to add engravings to my projects. I do need to say that I purchased this laser with my own money, it was not given to me by Twotrees 3D. I also added limits switches to the laser. After assembling the laser and adding limit switches I feel that this laser is a good small format engraver for hobby projects. I look forward to many projects with this laser. Twot...

I noticed movement in my Z Axis of my WorkBee CNC, in this video I will add linear rails and block to the Z Axis more solid. After making the upgrade there is still a little movement but I think this is due to the wheels of the X Axis. I plan on upgrading the Y and X Axis at some point. Parts used for this upgrade. That why spoilboards are made of MDF. Let the ir flows and sucks the carving material.
MDF IS Porous material, and it sucks the air through. You can try a couple of things. Seal the side which is in contact with the vacuum, or masking (blue tape) that bottom part.
Спасибо тебе, друг! Благодаря тебе сделал концевики на свой гравер!
Thx. Works also with tts-10.
Watching you make this makes festool domino worth every dollar
Man, we waste money on so many of the same hobbies! I’d love to build one of these. Would you be willing to share the fusion files?
Great job! Been looking for a good diy drum sander for all the same reasons you were. This design is just my speed.
thank you . may i make a suggestion on transferring hole locations use transfer punches they come in sets . tap em do not smack em . then follow up with a prick punch
thank you
thank you very nice

thank you
Of all the diy drum sanders I’ve seen so far, it’s definitely looking like I’m going to attempt yours. I didn’t catch the torsion box table dimensions, but I’ll watch again and look through the description again. I’m not exactly electronically inclined, would you be able to provide Power Supply options? I have a laser, 3D printer (very glad I found you and this video on thingiverse) and plenty of routers, but no CNC or parts. 3-4 motors 1.25 to 2hp, but this isn’t looking like a belt driven build.
Hello everyone. I added limit switches on my TTS-55 pro, and I noticed after that I have a lot of USB disconnexion during jobs, after 2/3 minutes. I tried a 22 minutes job after disconnecting the switches, and it runned smoothly to the end. Anyone knows what the problem can be ? BTW, the problem occurs on Lightburn. I didn't test with another soft.
Amazing handcraft! Beautiful chest! Thank you very much for charing! I will take your teachings for my first proyect, blessings.
@@fernandoescobar1594 It was a fun build and I’m happy you enjoyed it. It makes me happy to hear you had learned something from the project. Thanks!
Love your cedar chest build. I watched quite a few vids on cedar chests -- how to and design -- and yours is simply outstanding. Roughly speaking, how long from start to finish did it take you? Thanks!!
@@dj2028 I would say 50 to 60 hour. I should have kept better track of my time. Thanks for your comments.
Thanks for the video. I’ve made a system with an 18” x 18” vacuum plate using a 3.5 CFM oilless vacuum pump. My pump barely pulls enough vacuum for clamping a piece 18” x 18”. I would suggest a more powerful pump, something around 5 CFM or bigger.
Estlcam was my first cnc processor!
absolutely beautiful! very complex though, especially that walnut trim
Great project!! Vwey useful clamp system. Thanks for sharing
😁 *Promo sm*
Let me understand correctly... You buy plastic corners and use them to mill out plastic.. Why did you buy??
The best Drums sander diy
Thank you
That came out gorgeously!
Thank you.
This one is a great idea! Thank you.
The only concern is this: you need to surface the pods because no 3D printer can print perfectly squared surfaces. You need to surface them on your CNC after you printed them if you want accuracy.
Uh.... Box!
Nice chest!
No need to apologize for having a project that extends beyond 1 video, I'd rather have the added info and will happily watch the Part 2...Oh and Liked and Subscribed, too.
Having a big project like this and a lot of video footage to go through takes a lot of time, I find it easier to split it up into two videos. Thanks for Subscribing!
I think you put a lot thought into this jig enough for me to purchase your plans along with the acrylic plate. The plate was the seller for me. You may want to consider making available the other CNC pieces you created. For me, I would never buy a Festool anything because of their cost and at seventy years plus I don’t see me buy anything CNC either. Great video, thank you. Frank
I'm happy you enjoyed the video and thanks for you comments.
Well done
the slurping is uncalled for.....
Get a life!!!!!!
Cool. What you use the black box for? Thanks
The black box is the Control system for the CNC. Here is the link, openbuildspartstore.com/blackbox-motion-control-system/
This built is amazing - Been looking at tons of DIY drum sander and yours has the best design. Wish I could buy plans. Thanks
Thanks, I did think about making plans but just don't have the time to invest in making them, you can find all the 3D models on Thingiverse. www.thingiverse.com/thing:5893765/files
THE ROUTER BIT NEEDS TO BE UNDER THE LEVEL OF THE TABLE OTHERWISE YOUR TRAPPING THE WORK PIECE BETWEEN THE BIT AND THE FENCE/TABLE! This could cause the work piece to be ejected like an arrow from a bow. Perhaps show us the table once you have used it and figured it out fully. You were right to be a little fearful of that setup.
I agree with you, but for the profile I need to make and to make sure the material does not shift when routing I needed to put the router bit on top. If I did it the other way the material, making the wood piece stable, would be routed away and the stock would rotate when routing. I do have feather boards in place helping to prevent kick back. Thanks for your comments.
I’d buy the jig
I now have a listing on Etsy for the acrylic plate, here is the link. etsy.me/3S6an6M
I didn't reacted because I don't need a JIG! But I am enjoying your video's so here some love!

@NarenCreates You are the winner of the the acrylic plate for the ULM-Jig. Please send me an email at smedleywooddesign@gmail.com. Thanks for your comment!
love the flexibility of the jig. Also provides a shelf pin alternative. Put me down for a pocketed acrylic sheet.
The domino is not "controversial". I know that's a popular buzzword to get the clicks, but in all honesty, the people who seem to "hate" the domino (hate being a very strong and inaccurate description here; it's more akin to simply scoffing at the price of entry) are those who never touched one let alone used one, while those who love it (accurate term for good reason) are the ones who took the plunge and dropped the cash. I watch a ton of woodworking videos with a lot of them featuring the domino, and one thing I've never seen someone who spent their own money on the domino say is that they regret the purchase. I've said this before on other videos: regardless of the hobby, we tend to invest more time and money on things we're passionate about. So while the price of entry for the domino may be steep, so is the return on investment, which brings me to my next point and directly relates to the jig you made here: time is your most valuable asset. I've been down the road of making loose tenon jigs and the like, and while it always worked well for me, there's still a decent bit of time involved with setup, making new templates for different sized tenons, making the loose tenons, etc. So I got sick of all that; I just want to build projects, not build projects used to build projects. A couple of years back I bought a dowelmax, and I'm kicking myself for not having done it years ago. It's a beautifully crafted jig, as accurate as the domino, makes joints just as strong, just a bit slower, though not by a huge amount, especially if you buy an extra drill bit of the same size dowels you're using. It's around $225, which is still not a tiny amount of cash, yet not domino money either. Owning the dowelmax is what has kept me from investing in the domino. It's amazing. In regards to the price, I can say with confidence that I've spent well over $225 in my time making my loose tenon jigs and templates, just as I imagine you have on the jig in this video. Give it a look. Tl;dr, the domino is worth the investment if you're passionate about woodworking or if you make money with your woodworking. For a hobbyist, put that biscuit joiner back on the shelf at the home center, skip trying to engineer an elaborate "do-all" loose tenon jig and buy a dowelmax. The jig you came up with is quite nice though. edit to add: Subscribed, good content on your channel. A CNC is my next big tool investment.
If you sold the acrylic, I'd be down for it at the right price. Not everyone has or wants a cnc machine.
I now have a listing on Etsy for the acrylic plate, here is the link. etsy.me/3S6an6M
So are you saying the cnc machine is the alternative to the Festool Domino? Could you make the jig without the cnc?
No, a CNC is not an alternative to the Domino. You could probable make the jig by hand with a paper template, temporary adhered to the acrylic.
I'd like to share a tip about vacuum pods; try using high pressure laminate (HPL) for the pods. It is a material similar to Formica, only thicker. I have bought scrap pieces from a furniture factory, where they use it for table tops. The pieces I've got is app. 1/2" in thickness. Although it is a very hard material, it machines beautifully with tungsten carbide bits. I find it to be less slippery than HDPE, which is desirable in this application...
Thanks for the tip, I have worked with HPL before and will have to give it a try for the vacuum pods.
decoup delophane or no ?
The great thing about having a CNC is that you can CNC your own upgraded parts. I tend to 3d print all mine first to check they fit etc, then just machine them. I think the HGR15 are the way to go over the 12.
Also HGR rails would be better for CNC than MGN
I did end up upgrading my X axis with HGR 15 Rails, it made the whole assembly a lot more ridged. I also 3D print all of my part before machining, it makes it a lot easier to correct mistakes in the design. Thanks for you comments.
