Installing Total Chaos Bed Stiffeners Tacoma 05-2021
How did you mount them? What type screws?
my hand tap is a pain even in the drill it just clogs. gonna gave to get these all in one
Neat storage solution, thanks for sharing
Damn, guess i have to upgrade to a short turn-down style exhaust now to fit my bigger spare, oh darn ;)
You need to season your disc differently than in this video. The burner you are using here doesn't seem to be heating up the metal enough to polymerize the oil. Heat the metal until it changes color. Wipe the oil on the disc and then wipe it off so there is only a thin layer. Let the disc cool. Repeat three or four times until the surface becomes non-stick. Clean up will be a simple thing once the disc is seasoned properly. Other than that; nice build!
This is the best video I seen
Hey did it work i am tring to do same on my prime weld 180 dunno why they dont make it easy so NO more swichouts ,which would be nice
Works great.
This video was really helpful and confidence building for me as extrusions and all shop work is new to me. I have a smaller Milwaukee drill and the tapping process didn't go as smoothly. I had to adjust the clutch to a much stronger setting and I really had to work the drill. I had to reverse out of the hole a few times, re-oil and clean the bit and repeat. After reviewing your video again, I noticed that the extrusions you're working with appear to be 15 series 8020 whereas my extrusions were 10 series. The 15 series have a .262" diameter hole whereas the 10 series have a .205" diameter hole. I think this made a big difference in the level of effort. The good news is that all the holes that I tapped worked great.
this dude loves to say plastic bristle brush
holes would have made a good place to anchor tie-down straps.
This charger ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxknS1MWclRHOKWekYXnBJz8Ex0rEPnrGF works great with the DCB205 and DCB203, I've charged both a few times without issue. After I'd searched for a while this was the best value charger I found and it's new, boxed up well, and it's built as well as any charger I've had.
If you use a quick or super charger.
Thank you so much for posting, the first 2 minutes of your video saved my sanity.🎉
Could you tell what type of oil do you use ? I was trying to do the same and was genuinely baffled - Mine got stuck multiple times every 3-4 full turns. Whereas, in your case, you could go in all the way with the lowest setting. I then figured out that it was the oil. I was using WD-40 - it would get stuck and got nowhere. However, when I changed to machine coolant that was lying around (instead of WD40) I was able to go in about half way per pass. I then purchased threading oil but it was wayy worse than the coolant, maybe even worse than WD40 !
Just use a good cutting oil. You really shouldn't try to do it in 1 pass unless it is perfectly smooth.
Are those structural pieces 3 inches or 4 inches wide?
Structural 3x1.5-ish
Are not fractions something like second or third grade math?
We all learned it... Doesn't mean it makes sense. Find me a machinist that would prefer fractions over the metric system. Hahaha
Hello , really love how this rack came out . Wondering if you’d be interested in making another one ? Thanks again 🤙🏼
I would love to, but I don’t have the time to do that.
@@todaysrandomexperience6869 got it understood. Really liked it . 🤙🏼
Which topper is that?
It is an ARE that I painted with Raptor liner
@@todaysrandomexperience6869 thanks ! I’ll have to find something like this
Nothing wrong with having power. I think hes referring to a DeWalt drill that has about 1/2 the trigger as the other drills. Its like the DeWalt is on and off very touchy control. People think it is hard to control because of power but that is not it.
Next problem, I want to use blue (semi-permanent) thread locker during final fastening. But I’m concerned that oil will contaminate the thread locker. But not using oil will snap the bit…. What to do??? I guess a bunch of fwd and backward with the drill just like a manual tap but without oil maybe?
Definitely use oil... Use spray cleaner when done.
Way better vid for this on utube..look up 20 dollar adapter for titanium spool gun..
Do it! Mine was an after thought.
Great job...im considering bolting unistrut as load bars...need to get up over shark fin....do you think a 2...or 2.5 inch spacer with the unistrut going across can handle the load of a rooftoptent....approx 240 pounds? Thx tomk fdny
I think you’ll be happier if you use extruded aluminum. It won’t be much more expensive. I think you’ll need more than 2 inches to clear the fin.
Anyone gonna do this to their packout, I highly suggest replacing the machine screws your inlet will most likely come with, with 8-32's and nuts.
thank you!
Lol don't seas it
?
Get yourself a small Milwaukee inverter to keep in case you ever need some AC power
you build your own for price those Milwaukee power station do much better wich i do
Is a 16" enough for 2 people?
I feel like it makes a good amount of food. I can easily make a large meal that will be shared amongst my wife and my daughter and myself.
Thanks, what a great idea.
Brave Man!...I'll only tap in a 1/4" at a time...in and out slowly and progressively....too many snapped bits. Great Video...clear, concise, no stupid heavy metal background music, Good Job my Man!
Broke 2 of these Dewalt bits in my 15 series 80/20 extrusion. I think my mistake was that I didn’t add lubricant (beginner here 😉). I’ll buy another bit and try again with lube. Now I have to remove those 2 broken taps in my extrusion 😬.
Chips must go out while you are tapping.
For the side rails, how wide were they to start with? Nice work by the way!
I just want to let you know I put up a video with some measurements answering your questions. This should help.
If you have all the measurements of your build did you happen to make any drawings or sketches. If so I’d be interested in purchasing them to build my own. I can’t even imagine how much time this all took! Looks awesome please let me know. Thanks
I just want to let you know I put up a video with some measurements answering your questions. This should help.
It would have been nice if you would have actually hooked up everything instead of explaining it and do it the way you explain it.
I know, I think I messed up when I was recording it.
i feel like that drill handle is on wrong... or maybe i did mine wrong lol
Lol. Probably
forgot to post the part about tapping aluminum. that was drilling holes.
That is a tap and drill bit together
Thanks for the video. I was considering ordering one of these but was also worried about things falling out. I like your solution. I have some old netting from a hammock that I think I might try to attach to the top/roof part of the BROG attic. Maybe then I can clip it or bungee it at the front so stuff can't come out. Basically turn this into a clam shell.
That's a good idea. Would slow down regular access tho. But I like it.
What torque spec for ubolts?
I don't remember. Sorry.
Thinking about getting a double cab Tacoma. But I’m about 6’ 3” and need the seat slid all the way back. Is your driver seat slid all the way back in this video? Might have to run my forward facing car seat on the passenger side instead.
I’m 5'9"... So I’m definitely not all the way back. You could do the same thing on the other side.
This was VERY helpful to me. I was tapping larger extrusions and I went a TON slower and lower power as I didn’t want to break the bit. Thanks for posting!
Any updates on the exhaust heat effecting the tire. I’m currently keeping my 285/75-16s in my bed.
Currently no problems.
Great demo
Props on youre alum tig and design
Thank you!
How long???
I never measured. About 6ft each side.
The length of the rails is just over 62 inches.
Where did you get those cross bars from?
I used TNUTZ
Looks awesome I wish I could do it.
I use the 6way charger with m18 works well
I'm not sure if that fits. Hopefully it does.
Your all over the place with tool bands dude
No loyalty here.
What series are you using? and what size do I need for 10 series
1/4 20 is what I used on the 10 series.
👏🏼👍👏🏼👍👏🏼
Awesome video. Thanks. What size angle iron for the holder? Looks like 1.5"? Any issues eith burner not being right against the skottle? I know tembo puts theres right at it. Touching. Thanks.
Thanks. No issues at all with the burner. Just wind can be an issue. I have been planning to make a wind deflector next time I get the chance. I could then turn that side to face the wind. Yes I believe it is 1.5.
@@todaysrandomexperience6869 thanks. I know my weekend project...
I was wondering how I could make sure to thread these holes as perpendiculat as possible, I thought of creating a jig but this is the way to go. I didn't think of that tool. The drill bit serve a good enough pilot to ensure the perpendicularity of the machining. Smart idea. Well done!
Make sure to use a lot of cutting oil and be as perpendicular as possible. It’s pretty forgiving but not if it’s dry or a weird torque is put on it.
