If we look at the history of the United States, we are talking about pioneers, settlers, the winning of the west, to hunt fur animals and, above all, to acquire land. All seen from the perspective of the whites. But that ...

American Civil War: Battle of Antietam
What does the average Dutchman know about the American Civil War? Not that much. Perhaps older people have seen the 1985 mini-series North and South based on John Jakes' best-selling trilogy. I had never heard of Antietam, of Gettysburg, until my American brother-in-law told me about those places and I wanted to see the battlefields with my own eyes. That was the beginning of this video about t...
American Civil War - Harpers Ferry

The American Civil War was a dark period in the history of the United States. As a Dutchman I walked across three battlefields of that time - Harpers Ferry, Antietam and Gettysburg. And I was bewildered about the ease with which lives were sacrificed. And for what? Indeed, slavery ended in the United States. But reunification never became only in name a reality. In essence, many Americans say t...

Thank you. It's relaxing hearing you.
hello...salute from Indonesia
Weer hartstikke goed, Arie!
I was born there, in Delft
Nice! Do you recognize the sites in the video?
reality of the city is different
It's a pity that the city is ruled by xenophobia and brutality
The true face of racism and xenophobia in the Dutch Alkmar. What it looked like from the recorded videos and not from the chaff pumped to you. Watch from 9:28, English subtitles available scandal after the end of the az alkmaar vs legia warsaw match.
alkmaar turns out to be mostly populated by nazi scum. polish soldiers liberated big chunks of netherlands in 1944 but it appears that nazis are still here and they speak dutch. shame on you 5.10.23
Nice review, I stay in Las Cruces when heading west from south Texas, the Mesilla area has excellent restaurants. The east side of the Organ mountains is pretty too.
We had to less time to explore the east side of the Organ Mountains. Always hope to return to hike through that area!

Wonderful town ... of dutch racists and loosers .... cheers:) , who gives a f?????ck? Right? It is all about canals .... so exciting
Racist city with prostitution and drugs all around
Alkmaar is a dangerous city. There were 8 bomb attacks in one month.
Hello Magda, thank you for your reaction. As far as I know there were some bomb attacks in 2017. But I never experienced this city as an unsafe area.
PEOPLE, DON'T COME CLOSER TO THIS DISGUSTING RACIST JITCH. THEY ARE AGGRESSIVE PEOPLE WHO KICK CUSTOMER OUT OF THE RESTAURANT, KICK THE POLICE OUT OF THE HALL, TAKE IT OUT OF THE CITY, THIS IS ONE BIG CRAP. BETTER GO TO CIVILIZED PLACES.
I know the town is a shithole!

Please do not visit this city and do not give them any business. Its a little town with racist Mayor. She openly stated, no Poles here , I do not want them in my city . Local football team AZ does not belong to UEFA competition. It is Police ruled town with close minded Mayor.
I understand you are very disappointed in the football match. But my video is only about the buildings, canals and streets. No political message in it.
I also think this town is a shithole!
@@arieverhoef1520 what political?? Why u lie? Ur ppl made attack on civilians. Holland is European state of prostitution. Maybe Polish Forces should clean ur communist government?
I think people should know , that this is not as nice as in your video . And this town has problems. Its shame , video is very good but reality of the city is different. Not only the football situation but eveyday life is full of problems for visitors and none native residents. Have good day .

Mooie video, interessant stukje geschiedenis...
Very nice video. You captured the essence of the high road.
Nice video although I must correct you on 1 thing. Officially Groningen doesn’t have city rights.
Really? Then I'm misinformed.
@@arieverhoef1520 you are not the first, but that doesn’t mean the video is bad. You did a great job.
@@arieverhoef1520 Only because city rights have been abolished 200 years ago. Officially it is a 'Gemeente' now. Before that, it DID have city rights, ofcourse ;)
Goeie video, Arie!
I've made the drive from Santa Fe to Taos on the canyon road. It's incredibly beautiful and worth the time and effort.
Absolute!
I agree!
Lovely video.
Thank you!
Heel mooi gedaan!
Dank u!
The prinsenhof also used to be a broadcast/TV/radio studio RTV Noord (if I'm not mistaken). En mooi gedaan dit clipje.
Dank je!
I live here in Groningen and the video is very well done. But you didn't go to the suburbs. Reitdiephaven is a world famous small boat harbor and there are still many things that you have not shown. (I don't intend to criticize the video, because maybe you didn't know about them) but there is also a cozy restaurant that is worth trying in the harbor. But the like went. :)
I have to visit this city again, focussing on the suburbs!
Prachtig filmpje Arie, dankjewel!
Dank je!
And actually, this is Northern Central New Mexico. And yes, if you have the capacity to appreciate it, it is very, very beautiful.
Leuke video!
U hebt gelijk!
Spent days "in town" visiting from our cabin high in the mountains east of Taos. 61 yrs ago at 12 yrs of age, l stood near the plaza with two very old Pueblo Indians. My father came and said I shouldn't bother them. But they protested and said I was welcome. We talked and they gave me gifts of perfectly formed tiny rock Crosses. They said they were called tears of Christ. These are found on their holy Mountain, Wheeler Peak. My grandfather bought land & a cabin in 1920. I knew and loved many of those old people that lived through the waning days of the wild west. I have sad memories of that Saturday afternoon and the sight of smoke rising from the old Cathedral as it began to burn to the ground. Summers in those high Sangre de Christos were welcome relief from the high plains of the Texas Panhandle once the wheat was cut.
Thank you for sharing these memories!

Wondering about the pronunciation of “ Abiquiu”
Hi Edie, the pronunciation can be wrong. Excuses for that!
When I was there I heard people saying Ah-buh-Q Almost like a heavy Northeastern US accent saying barbecue - but without the B.
Enjoyed your video! Thank you for sharing!
The church of Trampas - perhaps my best loved building in the US. Thanks for your video (with excellent choice of music).
