Chas, as for the Kamala accents… she’s got like 4 now. I wouldn’t expect y’all to know American accents because it’s like British accents for various regions. She used a southern accent in Atlanta, poor attempt best much like Hillary Clinton’s poor attempt at it. In Detroit it wasn’t southern, that was a black urban accent, again, a poor attempt at it. Kamala’s normal accent is blank because she grew up in Canada and California. That’s why she sucks at accents. Ironically, Trump still has his New York accent but has some southern tinge to it now after he left the White House because he spends so much time at Mar a Lago, but also because he’s hanging around a ton of southern politicians and staff. Florida has a different flavor of southern accent but my mom who grew up there has pointed out a few times how he sounds Floridian on some words lol. The point of saying all of this is people don’t really like fake accents that are “put on”. Hillary got dragged back in the day for it. I know black people who hated when Obama would really bend his words with an accent… they said it was like a door to door salesman.

Chas, you’re wrong about guns being a Vance weakness. America has only become more pro gun the last decade, especially after anti cop BLM and Covid. Constitutional carry is passing in more and more states. School security is a winner for Vance, everyone who went to school in America knows exactly what Vance was speaking about. Teachers and schools are too lax in security a majority of the time. Anyone could walk in and shoot it up. I can’t remember which shooting it was, but one shooter went through a side door that was actually propped open a bit with a chair leg so teachers could get back into the building from the parking lot instead of going around the whole school to go into the front door. Many doors like this have no handles on the outside and are just exit doors.

Regarding the AI "celebrity" filter, I recently saw a presentation of one of the image generation tools that is aimed at the media production industry. They have a number of features for mixing content from various sources. In one example, they took a reference image of a scene from a film and tried to replace the characters with some from another source. Because the original scene contained an element that was considered violent, it tripped the "safety" features of their system. It appears to be aimed at avoiding someone using their AI to create something like the Steamboat Willie horror movie. But if we had a paid account, we could simply turn off that safety measure. I think there is more chance of success by finding a way of using IP / copyright laws to make the content fall foul of libel laws. Combined with stripping S230 from any network that uses an algorithm to select which content is shown to their users. Define the algorithm as an editorial decision and it now puts the "platforms" in the same category as other curated media outlets. If the result is that my social media feeds only contain content shared by people I follow, I can live with that. But as soon as the "platform" puts their algorithmic finger on the scale, they forgo the protection that was based on the idea that the were aimed at protecting platforms that were too small to undertake proactive moderation. And as a user on Twitter that is now able to see the community notes that take days to actually get shown next to the content, there is no way that this discourages/penalises disinformation.

I don’t like, care, or know anything about baseball. The team my mom follows is the Cincinnati Reds, so they're the only team she ever mentions. Chas, just be careful with the term "murder" - this is regarding the discussion where you mentioned that only 2% of police officers who 'murdered' someone are ever charged in the US. There are different definitions of the word both linguistically and in terms of legal concepts. In British (and Australian) and European societies, murder linguistically usually refers to the unlawful killing with intent to kill or with premeditation. Note the qualifier 'unlawful' as well as the requirement of intent and/or premeditation. It could be argued that a police officer (hypothetically) killing someone in the line of duty could be presumed to be lawful until found unlawful via a criminal conviction. If the police officers were never charged let alone convicted, saying they 'murdered' someone would be inaccurate. Additionally, the police officer could (hypothetically) be argued to have been acting with the intent of self-defense or to 'only' incapacitate (as an example) and not acting with the 'intent' of killing the person. I am absolutely NOT defending such actions, just explaining why the verb/noun 'killing' can be considered by some to be more accurate and the verb/noun 'murder' is a more specific subset that requires certain extra qualifiers be met. However, the flipside to this is that in US and some other societies, 'murder' is commonly understood to cover all sorts of killings, lawful or unlawful, premeditated or not, with intent or not - a common example of this is how certain states in the US refer to different degrees of murder (Murder 1, Murder 2, Murder 3, Murder in the 1st degree, 2nd degree etc) because that's how state law refers to such crimes. Other states however may use voluntary/involuntary manslaughter or negligent/reckless homicide for lesser degrees of the crime and use 'murder' solely for '1st degree' or unlawful killing with premeditation and/or intent. On a side note, the term 'murder' also only refers to humans. One can't for example, murder a pet. Of course, it's used as hyperbole which is fine, but technically murder is solely about humans. I think we all need to be careful with the usage of 'murder' because the connotations can vary greatly and can easily lead to confusion and/or arguments; 'killing' is a safer, broader term.
