so much pep content. can't recommend this podcast enough.
Can’t keep up!
Easily the peppiest podcast
I have to hold myself back from recommending it to more people.
PEP has made my week, 3 episodes & 2 with Richard Cooke 🤩🤩🤩
Richard’s Elden Ring quip at 1:27:49 was incredible, only made better by Chas and Dave’s utter bewilderment 😂
What an amazing week to be a PEPper, despite the grim topics being analysed in the podcast. We’ve been absolutely spoilt this week, thanks Chas
Xmas in July is real.. the 3 wise men have arrived!
I'm upset that I missed out on potentially 27 seconds' worth of CHAS UNLEASHED.
That’s the length of a political campaign
Chas and Dr Dave - you are fantastic but you HAVE to find a way to get more Richie Cooke into this podcast! He really does add a different, unique and insightful perspective.
Mal Meninga is the most honest political candidate in Australian history. He did everything he promised 😁
Yes!
PS- He once visited my (under 15s, I think) team's dressing room before a game.
I knew a bunch of his family and they're all beautiful people.
Only made me respect him more!
The terrible irony of our biggest week in PEP wrapping up just hours before the biggest shock in the election cycle. I think 9 hours per week, including the Tripep, will have to be the new normal till November
What an awesome tri- PEP !!!!! All I can say is anytime and anyplace you want to do that again you will have my undying gratitude!!
Who else is hanging out for the next PEP episode? Talk about an eventful week. Seriously guys, we so appreciate your thoughtful discussions.
I suspect we'll need to wait for crowdstrike to not be broken before more PEP
In dissapointed this episode wasn’t called “Send in the Cloons”.
Also according to Mystery’s Method, a host should sit on the end of a group of 3 to make sure both guests feel engaged and no one is ever left out.
Also Richie is a great guest host.
Live time stamps nice
Chas, your work husband has now met your work manstress. You guys had fun with one another and your audience enjoyed watching. More please and thank you
lol
wow, what a privilege and honour to have such a loaded pep!!! Please make it more of a thang!!!
Yessss… I love PEP, Fully Loaded!
Thirded! More third wheeling on PEP!
Uncertain if joking, but Pod Save America routinely does 3 people, sometimes 4. Works fine. Works fine with you blokes. Im totes on board for the Tripod. Always love seeing Richard, Elle, Bill et al., and if my dosage of Dave is also maintained then i'm a happy chap.
100% joking, Aklbero! But it does seem like a relatively successful experiment. So we might be doing that again! - chas
Loving this (truly revolutionary and ground breaking) triumvirate pod. Richie's quips are incredible - you've just gotta have him back in this format again!
I declare this tri-pod-cast a tri-umph 🙂
Superb episode - thank you all!
It will seem such a small mundane thing, but . . .
I am very grateful that through all your work this last week, and in such good time, here we are standing on the rock with a perfect modicum of equanimity.
And refusing to raise the stakes on inconsequential views…
Best format yet, get more three ways happening as often as you can!
The Tri-Pod is here!! 😀
Excellent episode today guys, laughed a lot! Thanks for bringing the funny side of this horrible situation to light
I laughed a lot too but found myself feeling a little off colour after laughing at Biden's death and Hunter's legal dramas.
Considering the family history and Joe Biden's supposed decency.
Two podcasts, the second with the big three! This is too much.
All we need now is more chaos in American politics and my head will explode - no wait!
I'm so happy to see that Rich is a fellow pen'n'paper note-taker!
What an awesome episode. Thanks for organising that. Really enjoyed listening to this.
Glad to hear that the docsplaining is not just raising the stakes of inconsequential views! Mostly I can't help opening my big mouth 😀 Obviously I'm not alongside Dr Pitts' making his observations public, and I can't really state whether I concur (just had to say it) with my colleague who, incidentally, is infinitely more esteemed than I will ever be. We do have one thing in common though - neither of us is Joe Biden's doctor nor have either of us examined him in person. For the purpose of critical analysis, it's helpful to point out that when trying to make a diagnosis, there needs to be a list of possibilities considered - a set of differential diagnoses - which can hopefully be further narrowed down by physical examination and investigations.
It is possible that the more specialised a doctor gets, the more they can fall prey to "The Golden Hammer Rule" - that is, if you see 20 or more patients a day with Parkinson disease, the more you likely you are to see Parkinson disease when you go looking for it, and Dr Pitts specialises in neurodegenerative diseases. For example, Dr Pitts referenced Joe Biden's tendency to turn slowly - the medical term is "en bloc" like a statue being rotated on its base. Parkinson disease is a possible explanation for Joe Biden's unsureness in his gait, but then so is the fact that he has peripheral neuropathy of unknown cause - the nerve signals letting the brain know the position and movement of the feet (proprioception) are slowed - similar to the pins and needles people get after sitting with their legs crossed for too long - so that a person would be less confident in their balance and consequently appear more slow and uncertain in their gait. None of this changes the fundamental issue that, whatever the diagnosis, there are still serious questions that are unanswered regarding underlying fitness though!
If I am able to agree with Dr Pitts on anything it's that anyone who decides to run for President of the USA should receive a cognitive test and publish the result. Unfortunately, the MOCA test does not fully evaluate judgment as a cognitive domain.
PS - Chas, do get some sleep :) but I hasten to add that this is not medical advice - who listens to doctors anyway? 🤣
Chairman Mal approves this message
“I have a cognitive test everyday” doesn’t mean you pass them. Giving it your all just means YOU gave it YOUR all. Not your party’s, not the people you represent. Yours.
Great show guys! This would be a good line-up for the first post-election PEP. We need the heavy hitters for that one!!
I'd need Melina for that one...
@@Backpfeifengesicht789 Melina's great, so we can definitely expand to 4 - Chas may need to requisition the Q+A set.
@@OtherShaun and Elle right? pentapod...
@@Backpfeifengesicht789 Of course! There is room on the Q+A set for all the guest PEPers.
Sleep Correspondence: As a fellow late-night addict who gets pride out of productivity, one of the weirdest things is how I get comments about how bad I look when I feel good - and vice versa. The rare comment "you're looking better today" is when I'm really ready to time out.
Perhaps when your body has decided to take a break ahead of time
Just saw the news, trump was shot at and survived. i feel like this might be a took a shot at the king and missed situation. it might be joever.
Thankyou
Have Lichtman on planet America! I think it would make for an interesting conversation even if you disagree with his model.
I very much doubt they will because planet America is about sports talk, talking poles is inane & not a prediction of outcomes
i agree. and you can ask him about the scandal key!
@@adrianbauze1864 Definitely, although by his definition of the scandal key, it has to be a corrupt act, done by the president himself, that is recognised by both parties. He’s been asked this question on different media outlets and he says that it doesn’t turn the scandal key against Biden since a bad debate performance isn’t a corrupt act. I have seen his UA-cam streams and find him to be a very entertaining historian even if I’m unsure about his model. It might be historical trends he’s noticed in elections but don’t necessarily mean, they were the determinative factors of the winners of presidential elections. Every election is different in its own way. Still would be a great conversation if Chas and Lichtman discuss his views on the upcoming election.
I was almost thinking you’d devoted a portion of RFK in this tripodcast to his polling numbers, but he’s not quite at 6.7% yet (roughly 12/180)!
We do care about you Chas. Take a break!
But also, never stop, please.
Fantastic episode guys! Great analysis as always. Loved the three person dynamic.
I'm terrified of how trump will change post assassination attempt, somehow i doubt he will become more moderate. I wasnt worried about the seal team six talk before but i can imagine a more paranoid and angry trump being more willing to cross the line.
I also think that this might end up being a critical moment where trump might have a rally around the flag effect and I'd be incredibly surprised if the infighting democrats can win anything at this point.
I'm so glad i don't live in America
yes i think you are right unfortunately
You need to do this regularly!!! This was the most entertaining PEP to date🔥🔥🔥
3:37 I love that Security is a Pepper
Great PEP (I was expecting this tripod would Harding itself).
This is the greatest pep ever. 👍 on the 3x format
The comedy song on Planet America just now was absolutely brilliant and needs to be shown as evidence to Dave on how good a comedy song can be.
Your discussion on what does “under consideration” mean was answered by Sir Humphrey Appleby. “Under consideration means we’ve lost the file, under active consideration means we are trying to find it”
2:42:00 regarding the politicisation of economic statistics: I am reminded of a comment attributed to Chinese Premier Li Keqiang roughly saying that the only statistics he trusted were electricity consuption and total freight volume. Misleading economic statistics played a huge role in the collapse of the USSR, and are a big part limiter of foreign investment in China. I am also reminded of the orders to stop collecting COVID data towards the end of the peak of the pandemic. It is hard to overstate just how disastrous the politicisation of data could be. 😢
I dunno which gas is which, but the nang canister I’m inhaling from right now says “Nitrous Oxide food grade 1070”.
2:58:58 podcasts with 2 people are the new TV
2:08:50 - Ritchie’s story and insight here about Biden’s victory over Trump wiping collective memory about a single term presidency and forgiving all his future failings is absolute gold!
I clicked Like on this before even watching. Knowing!
This is the most engaging, and incidentally hilarious, trio of pundits since League Teams ( of Melbourne legend ).
I hope you enjoyed your "holiday" Chas. How do you feel about Jon Stewart's return now that he's been back for a while?
As someone too young to have experienced him the first time around, I'm very grateful to have him.
The return of the king is about to begin, grab the popcorn.
No holiday for Chas
Great dynamic with the 3 presenters
49:55 there’s something called abdication
Yway.. you're back soon.. pep to the rescue
1:22:26 Franz Joseph and WW1 seems like a good example But that was because Germany in order to mobilise would have to go to war and Russia would not NotMobilise
When's the next episode
I listen to this podcast religiously and my housemates go to a quizzmeisters quiz every week. Trying to convey to them all the things that Chris might nab to put in a quiz is getting pretty ridiculous 😂
You should make the tripod a monthly or bimonthly feature with a rotating guest.
I love Dr Dave’s reaction to the keys being brought up and continued mocking of them.
With the point of people being able to mask cognitive decline surprisingly well, yeah. That’s definitely true. I’m not a geriatrician or neurologist but I am a doctor and had to do rotations in those areas. It’s pretty well known that when older people who seem to be coping fine move to a new location (whether it’s having to go into hospital or to a nursing home, downsizing etc) it seems as if they have a sharp cognitive decline, as that fluid learning/cognition capacity is gone.
Great work guys!! Have you been approached by anyone in the US media to make commentary on live TV?
FYI, Talking of Bidens careful scheduling & ‘working hours’ (at around 1.19mins), didn’t Biden cancel his scheduled trip to Australia & Papua New Guinea not long ago? I don’t recall the spin they put out about why but it fits your timeline & the narrative.
from memory it was the (boringly repetitive) debt ceiling issue. The axe that Republicans wield much better than Democrats do (and by better, I mean far worse...).
10:45 see also “War is a Racket” by Smedley Butler
Saturday ....Kenny.....Kenny.....Kenny...
?emergency PEP I could do another 3hrs 😂 jokes Chaz needs sleep!
2:37:38 the right is just the moderate left
That being said…. Was there anything to that NYT grudge against Biden for not doing an interview? Or is it a moot point anyway after the debate…
Great pod as always, thx team
Just listened to Biden. Agree with Dave for Biden it was a good conference. Lots of information and only a couple of slips. What is noticeable is that the rambling occurs when he wants to download all this knowledge and then he realises that he is going off point and stops. That guy can't last for longer than 45 minutes. You listen to Biden and Trump and they are both as rambling as each other but Biden makes sense.
👍👍👍
Though it is a bit odd that 538 (now without silver) has its prediction odds (not poll levels) at around half half for trump rather than eg 75% for trump like economist has. Something about weighting fundamentals?
2:00:00 yes we need cornpop
Cornpop for president 2024
I love the PEP panel format!
Why not make this a bi-monthly event?
OR Feel the back of my hand! SLAPO!
Hi Chas, love the podcast! Do you still have your Hello Kitty tattoo that you got when you tried to look like Daniel Craig?
It was a henna tattoo, soup. So it only lasted a few weeks. I hope that news hasn't ruined your day! - chas
@@pepwithchasanddrdave Thanks Chas! Love the podcast! Keep up the great work!
2:00:28 it’s cornpop 100% I can’t believe no one has noticed it’s so obvious
Hi Chas, I hope the timer on the video was a mistake, it was quite distracting. The show notes give us the timestamps we need. Also, yes take a break, you do a lot of work. We appreciate what you do, but don't burn yourself out.
Hey Mort - I love that you know me well enough to know that there is every chance it was some technical stuff-up. AND YOU'RE RIGHT! I must have pressed some button accidentally when exporting and i didn't notice the timer on it afterwards until this morning - and by then it was too late to take off!
Don't worry - it will not be back! - chas
Question for the next pep Chas! Crazy idea, but should Biden pardon Trump? He basically has immunity thanks to SCOTUS, so giving Trump a pardon would make him look guiltier to the general population?
13:37 it’s because the strong man authoritarian is dictator Dan
Triple the peppers! This will be spicy. Thanks team ❤
Highlight of the week
Chas, what's your highest scores on flight control?
I was afraid someone was going to ask this! Unfortunately my scores were destroyed locally on one of iphone's many updates and it was almost 20 years ago, so my memory isn't great. But I will tell you two things. 1) I was briefly 4th in the world and won myself a mug. 2) I played for over 12 hours straight when I got my high score! - chas
please explain why a consummate communicator with Midwestern roots, who has proven his loyalty to the Biden administration cannot be the Democratic nominee. yes he's gay but apart from that liability the man would shred Trump in his ability to explain the benefits of a now and future Democratic administration to the every day Americans
He's a good operator, and it would be very enjoyable watching him debate Trump. Should be Harris's VP at least.
2:12:25 Stochastic terrorism ?
Just wondering if anyone could shed some light on a stupid hypothetical for me. What would happen if Biden dropped out and they didn't replace him? They would hand the presidency to Trump but would the democrats stand a better chance, with depressed turnout for both sides, at regaining the house and/or senate?
If Biden dropped out and they didn't replace him is a fairly nonsensical question - sorry, I don't mean that rudely, but it's like asking what if the sky was green. Who knows? Nobody can sensibly answer either question. If Biden dropped out the DNC would nominate another candidate. If he did it very late then Biden/Harris would still be on the ballots, people could vote, and Harris would become the president if they voted in the Biden / Harris ticket. If your question "what if Biden dropped out early and the DNC didn't replace him and Harris also dropped out and they all did it early enough so the Democrats weren't on the presidential ballot", then the answer is that Trump would almost certainly be elected, as Kennedy isn't on enough tickets to get the required number of electoral college votes. Would that affect the House and Senate races? Who knows? Probably ruin them for the Democrats as they would have to be so completely screwed up to have made it to that point that they wouldn't be running much funding for their candidates, or the USA would have already become a military dictatorship, or something. Some incredible seismic shift would have had to happen to get to your scenario in the first place. Political parties *exist* to be elected, those people have spent their lives for that purpose, and for them not to even try is unthinkable.
2.03.35 - An interesting moment when Ritchie observes the ‘Emperor’s new clothes’ moment regarding Biden’s medical decline. People often used the same phrase to describe Trump’s moral and character failings at various times in his presidency. However these moments moved on without large effect. I wonder if medical concerns will be as easily shrugged off?
The COMEDY SONG IS BACK!!!!! see Planet America. Dr Dave is going to be furious.
Describing Biden as having ADHD is really funny and accurate. I'm diagnosed with ADHD and I talk just like Biden (except minus the vibes of senility)
4:53 is there anywhere near Chong qing ?
2:17:38 why does Donald Trump have the reputation of a Peace president ?
He talks peace but he’s actions are Mike Pompeo
Does Trump still like/will keep if ReElected Mike Pompeo ?
2:26:37 AU16473 Won’t stick AU2100 (20-100) WILL
2:48:52 RFK will forever be known as the brain worm guy
Laaaaame, didn’t even’t meet Panda Huahua 😂😂😂
Hey Chas I don't know who these people are but the three of you have a good podcast dynamic (and you get more time to breathe).
2:09:50 - The clip that Chas played regarding Donald Trump‘s comments on Taylor Swift. What I find interesting is that his first and only real view of her is that of ‘beautiful’. Now Trump could parse that word anyway he wants (musical beauty etc) but I think we all can see through this to a person who views women primarily through a lens of physical appearance. He does not seem to realise this is inappropriate in the 21st century in a western nation such as the USA. But also interesting is that it does not seem to harm his presidency bid. However if anyone else said it they would be excoriated and it would end their career.
Good tripepta
9:34 what game is Flight control again ?
2:09:55 I couldn’t disagree more
14:44 when will people realise that it’s all liberalism ?
