    So I actually built this out, filling in the gaps you left. For one of my feats, I picked up Ritual Caster and upped my Charisma to 18. It gives you a number of 1st level ritual spells equal to your proficiency modifier, so at level 20 with Pact of the Tome you will have 8 1st level ritual spells. Also, the feat lets you cast these spell at their normal casting time once for without using a spell slot. Also, no one has to do this, for one of the 2 spells you get from Magical Discoveries at Bard level 6, I picked up Bark Skin. True it does cost a spell slot and only lasts an hour, but your AC will be higher than what it would with Mage Armor since this build doesn't really focus on Dex. Also that means when you next level up in Warlock, you can swap out Armor of Shadows for what ever invocation you want, which is good since you only have 6 of the total in this build.

      That is awesome! I will admit I had a part where I talked about Ritual Caster but ended up cutting it for time since I wasn’t sure if it would conflict with our Pact of the Tome. I am really glad to see it got some love! Barkskin I also did not think of whatsoever, Armor of Shadows or Mage Armour as our Magic Initiate spell was what I had in kind but that solves both those issues at once. This is amazing!

    @5:56 while typing this so if you conflict with what I'm about to say later, that is why there maybe some discrepancy. }|{ So, when I played a 5.14 barbarian I found that I stopped at level 8, if it wasn't for the feat I would have stopped at 7, but I wanted a specific feat very soon. I then transferred to swashbuckler rogue & my character was a beast at being a tank & most damage didn't stick or was minimized, and the sneak attack damage helped too.

    • @BLynn
      @BLynn 3 дні тому

      The only thing Charisma helps is the imitative bonus on the swashbuckler, as far as I recall & a 7th level barbarian already gets advantage so I didn't worry about it. @9:45

      @ExploringtheBuild 3 дні тому

      Yea I agree with everything. The charisma does give a bonus to initiative and the Panache ability and that’s about it. I do think it makes the most sense thematically when compared to the other rogues, it’s just whether you care on missing out on those two things.

    no please stop with the chromatic orb, it sucks. Wizard have so many great level 1 spell to pick, why pick the bad one? unless you grab pact of the chain, find familiar is awesome If you do grab pact of the chain, detect magic will save you an invocation you also know I hope, that agonizing blast eldritch blast is no longer considered "good damage" you can check Treantmonk video for more info Thwn Epic boons... for a spellcaster, boon of fate is BIS. why? boon of recall is basically 25% chance to regain a level 4 or under spell slot at level 19... it's sucks. Boon of fate, once per initiative roll, you can reduce the saving throw of the target of your big fight turning spell by 2d4, on average by 5 points. And what sound more like occult knowledge then the guy who can change your FATE just by looking at you? and boon of FATE is super versatile being useful for more then just your spells.

    I’ve been playing a human warlock with a similar focus on versatility, though I’ve leaned a little bit away from the focus on magic initiate and more into the skilled feat to patch holes in the party composition. Also went with Archfey, as getting all of those free Misty Step casts along with the extra riders gives you a lot of options for mobility and control. Really cool to see how you had a similar idea but built it with a lot of different specific choices.

    • @ExploringtheBuild
      @ExploringtheBuild 4 дні тому

      Nice that sounds like a really fun character! I was tempted to use Archfey as well for those extra Misty Steps but decided to keep the build more of a "back-line, book wielder" instead of adding the extra mobility but I can see it being really fun in practice!

    Thanks for the cool build ideas. Love the videos. I had an interesting concept that I was trying to figure out a build for, if it interests you. Tentatively, I’m calling him the “grasshopper“ or the “jumping spider”. I thought it would be really cool to have the warlock’s otherworldly jump on a monk. Imagine being able to leave and J Jones anywhere on the battlefield. But I haven’t yet figured out how to make the odd combination work, or if there are any synergies, it could be incorporated. How might you take advantage of being able to leap 30 feet in any direction every round?

    • @ExploringtheBuild
      @ExploringtheBuild 5 днів тому

      Ooh I can definitely take a look and add that to the list. I think a jumper type of bike would be really fun! Off the top of my head I can see monk and Warlock being good, but even just taking the Speedy feat to impose permanent disadvantage on opportunity attacks against us may be all we need. Perhaps throw a bit of push in there too so you can leap frog over an enemy and send them into your team. I’ll have to take more of an in-depth look though!

  • @Morphineus

    Hmm... are you sure Epic Boons are available when you reach Tier 4? From what I'm seeing in the player's handbook, it is only available when you reach 19th level on both the Bard and Warlock classes, I don't think the prerequisite of being 19th level applies to the overall character level in this case, but it could be a matter of RAI vs RAW.

    • @ExploringtheBuild
      @ExploringtheBuild 5 днів тому

      That’s a great question, and I thought that as well initially. I’ve had a few other comments/seen discussion online that the reasoning you can take two is because they are still feats, and the only prerequisite is being 19th level overall. Because they are still technically feats they still follow the Category rules found under the feat section: “Category. A feat is a member of a category, which is noted in the feat. If you’re instructed to choose a feat from a specific category, such as the Origin category, that category must appear under the feat’s name. If you’re instructed to choose a feat and no category is specified, you can choose from any category.” So because our usual ASI levels say: “You gain the Ability Score Improvement feat or another feat of your choice for which you qualify.” That means that as soon as we hit character level 19 we can start taking Epic Boons regardless of whether or not we reach that level in a class. Since no category is specified so we can choose from any category, and we meet the prerequisite. Obviously, DMs can rule otherwise which is totally fine but rules as written it is perfectly good to go!

    It makes 0 sense that you put lucky in the hand crossbow and not in heavy and longbow, if you acount for advantage in 1 you can acount for advantage in all to compare

    • @ExploringtheBuild
      @ExploringtheBuild 5 днів тому

      I mean yea, but since the Longbow and Heavy Crossbow don’t have Vex, Lucky isn’t going to do much besides boost the DPR by a slight amount. The Handcrossbow used Lucky to set up Vex and then constantly attack with advantage. In the end it didn’t feel like it was worth doing the extra calculations for those two weapons for such a small increase. Instead I just left the Origin Feat ambiguous so that way you could take lucky, or a different origin feat. Savage Attacker also is a good choice if we only care about boosting DPR.

    They should stick with infusions and allow artificers to infuse already magical items that are in their areas of specialization. It opens up a lot of possibilities without throwing them the DMG and telling them to pick stuff. Then expand the general pool of infusions: changing the damage type, add a level scaling die to damage rolls, add proficiency bonus to damage rolls, etc. Then create subclass restricted infusions and the subclass's main feature can hold multiple infusions and gain more as you level up. So you can have different fighting styles that compliment the different armors for the armorer, multi attack on the eldrich cannon, enlarge/reduce switch or multi-attack or breathweapon for the steel defender. For the alchemist keep their focus their alchemist supplies for artificer spells but give them access to a cantrip second attack if they took the magic action, then add int mod/PB/Artificer level to damage and healing as an infusion, start the extra damage earlier and have it scale, an infusion to automatically upcast alchemist spells, infusions to eliminate the random element to their elixers.

Narratively, make that a choice they made, instead of pursuing bigger spells they sought full mastery of lower level spells. One premium infusion could be their damage/healing dice are downgraded to d4s but single target spells become AoE. That tied to an infusion to auto-upcast spells, adding your stats to damage/healing, and magic action and a cantrip second attack is certainly going to make up for the downgrade and is probably optimized beyond what most players will choose. Or they can go down a different route using infusions to remove the random element to their elixers, then taking an infusion to convert some higher level spells into potions which have the benefits of being a bonus action, concentration free and longer duration. The trade off being, the potion needs to be determined ahead of time and already in the hands of who needs it. Things that no other class can do, keeping with consistency of benefits potions offer over spells, while keeping with the theme of the subclass. Make them the subclass that forces full casters to do some introspection that they've certainly skipped stuff and didn't actually master the basics before moving on.

    Fun build, one little thing, did you mention using inate sorcery to improve greenflame blade? That is crazy but I just doubled checked as long as its a sorcerer spell you get advantage on all the attack rolls with it. Near permanent advantage on all the green flame blade attacks is really strong. I never thought about a draconic sorcerer melee using weapon attacks before but because of how that interaction works this is nice. Sorcerer is my favorite class so this has given me something to think about, though I don't often like multiclassing so I'll have to see if maybe I can pare this down into just a small warlock dip maybe.

      I did actually, at about 6:17 I talk about Innate Sorcery. It just got a little disguised because I was also talking about wanting to try and get both Agonizing Blast and Innate Sorcery on GFB. In my mind there’s a bit of an argument to be made for being able to get both but really it’s the DMs call. If we had to choose one, I think the extra damage from Agonizing Blast is just too good to pass up but if you’d rather go for Accuracy with Innate then it’s definitely an awesome choice!

    22:53 - Absolutely agree that Tasha'a Bubbling Cauldron should be given earlier. The reason: Wizards & Warlocks can access it at 11th level. Any subclass feature before 15th is already better & the earlier, the better. If I were to suggest my fix. 3rd level - would see a d100 Experimental Elixir table, filled with Cantrip, 1st, & 2nd level non-damaging "Spell effects." Experimental Elixir can be used for an attack. 2d4 Melee Thrown Light Weapon (30/120) that deals Fire/Acid/Necrotic/Poison (choice). Also, when expending a Spell Slot to create an Experimental Elixir, you can choose an effect on the d100 table OR replicate a non-damaging Spell with a Spell level equal to or less than twice the Spell Slot expended. You can use the replicate effect a number of times equal to your INT Modifier (minimum of 1). Sling Phials: You gain Proficiency in Glassblowers & Alchemist Supplies. All your Artificer Spells' range increases by 120 ft. Range of Touch & Self Spells included. Side-note: Artificer being a half-caster needs an overhaul to gain Extra Attack at 5th level. In this way, Armorer & Battlesmith gains new subclass features, while simultaneously granting Artillerist & Alchemist that offensive attack. 5th level - Caustic Burns: Damage from Alchemist Spells (& attacks with Experimental Elixir) are severely caustic. Immunity --> Resistance. Resistance --> Normal. Normal --> Vulnerable. 9th level - You can cast Tasha's Bubbling Cauldron once per day without a Spell Slot & with Alchemist Tools for the Material Component. This feature has access to Rare Potions. At 13th level, Very Rare Potions. At 17th level, Legendary Potions. 15th level - When you cast Alchemist Spells (& attacks with Experimental Elixir), the point of origin deals 2d8 Force damage to any creatures within 10-ft.

    • @ExploringtheBuild
      @ExploringtheBuild 22 дні тому

      Yea I can get behind those types of changes! That’s honestly a good point that Artificer is the only half-caster without extra attack. It would be nice if they brought that design more symmetrically in line with the others.

  • @googloocraft12

    You can no longer infuse your Armorer special weapon. And now the best you can get with level 9 feature is a +1 armor, if you find a better armor in the wild, then you just no longer have a level 9 feature. Also Armorer special weapon kinda just feels like weapon mastery Push or Sap and weapon mastery can be used with +3 weapons or other magic items, but the Armorer special weapons are only +0. Also Guardian Armorer Defensive field is just way less temp hp then the Artillerist protector canon which can gives you 1d8 +int with no restriction (no waiting for bloody) and it's AOE 10 feet radius. So yeah Armorer is feeling pretty bad.

    • @ExploringtheBuild
      @ExploringtheBuild 22 дні тому

      Yea looking over it again I think I agree with you on most points. The only catches I can think of would be: the Armour’s special weapons can technically be replicated since they are simple weapons, but how those replicated ones work with the armour model is a weird interaction. For the Artillerist temp hp the cannon is better but it does have the possibility of being destroyed. Though yea waiting till you hit half health for a temp hp ability isn’t great either. Overall yea Armorer is in a really weird place now. They added Dreadnought but changed all these other interactions, very strange.

    • @googloocraft12
      @googloocraft12 22 дні тому

    This was a fun build. I’ve been trying to make a traditional FF Dragoon without homebrew for so long (idk why, just a fun challenge), and it seems like they way the Charger Feat and Jump spells now work, there might be a way to make it viable. I’m envisioning a character that can break engagement and activate the Charger ability even when surrounded, simply by jumping in the air. Haven’t quite cracked it though.

    • @ExploringtheBuild
      @ExploringtheBuild 24 дні тому

      A full FF dragoon that jumps around would be so cool. I think you’re on to something with the jump spell + charger feat. It probably just depends on how fast and loose the DM allows the “10 foot straight line” requirement of the charger feat to be. Still potentially a very cool build!

    • @xdecatron2985
      @xdecatron2985 24 дні тому

      @ I did an initial build, but it didn’t do very impressive damage, imo. However, using the pushing side of the Charger feat, you can pair that with some other abilities to push more, or push and slow, knock down, etc., and become a martial controller. Not quite the feel of FF, but it’s still a cool build. Gotta keep playing with it.

    please refer to DMG 2024 where you need to read rule in "good faith" it's over the day of twisting word to fit your narrative. agonizing blast apply to a warlock cantrip so if you learn GFB from sorcerer it is not a warlock cantrip. What if "good faith" basically if you need to explain "shouldn't work because it apply to a warlock cantrip, BUT it says that whenever you cast THAT cantrip you get the bonus damage. To me that means we should be able to ignore the first part and still use both feature on the spell" sorry that not a "good faith" reading

    • @ExploringtheBuild
      @ExploringtheBuild 26 днів тому

      First of all; it is not bad faith to provide my own interpretation of a mechanical feature, admit it may not be correct, and offer a secondary option in case it isn't. That is literally a concession that I may not be correct. Second, the "good faith/bad faith" section of the DMG refers explicitly to fundamentally breaking game rules in a way that ruins the play experience for others. There is a clear difference between discussing rule interpretations and exploiting them in a malicious way that ruins everyone else's enjoyment at the table. I do not believe this Agonizing Blast combo is that case. I stand by the idea that there is an argument for how Agonizing Blast can be interpreted. Am I right? I don't know-that is up to the DM. But if I am wrong, then so be it. The combo doesn't happen, and it is by no means the end of the world.

    • @ExploringtheBuild
      @ExploringtheBuild 26 днів тому

      Typically yes, but on this one I think I disagree. I envision this build similar to a Rogue. We aren't trying to do the same thing as a standard martial class. Rather we are going for one big hit with a lot of tacked on damage from our modifiers. Against hordes of enemies we'll probably feel on-par with other martials thanks to GFB and Cleave. Against single targets we might be lacking a little but that is where Quickened Spell, Seeking Spell, and Bless for extra accuracy come into play. Plus as I said, we can focus more Warlock if we wanted to grab Thirsting and Devouring Blade.

    I want to write this up a week ago or so with your last build but i was too sick to do so. I have a BIG build challenge for you. A couple of years ago i came up with a build called the Rune Guardian. It has 6 levels in Ancestral Guardian Barbarian and 14 levels in Rune Knight Fighter. The theme of this character is that he was born amongst giants and eventually learn to craft runes into his body to power himself up and protect his allies. The concept of this character is to be a martial battlefield controller to limit enemies ability to move freely across the battlefield, with some tanking ability. He would be a Hill Dwarf wielding a glaive with the following feats: Strike of the Giant (frost strike) that comes with the Giant Foundling Background Fury of the Frost Giant Polearm Master Sentinel Slasher I would start it with 1 levels of Barbarian, 7 levels of Fighter, back 5 more levels of Barbarian, before taking it the rest of the way with Fighter. For fighting style i went defense for more AC, and for the Runes i went with is: (in order)Fire Rune, Stone Rune, Cloud Rune, and Frost Rune. (btw, I would reflavor his ancestral protectors and spirit shiled Ancestral Guardian features as other runes on his body). So the question I have for you (and thus your challenge); With the new 2024 rules, how would you remake the build use more of the new rules and features like Weapon Masteries while still keeping to the theme and concept of the original build.

    • @ExploringtheBuild
      @ExploringtheBuild 27 днів тому

      That is an excellent question! I will definitely throw that on the list and can take a look at what can be done with 2024. Off the top of my head - and I'm sure this is no surprise - but that type of build screams World Tree to me. I may be wrong but I think there are some pretty neat things that could be done with that!

    • @OpenWorldAddict0
      @OpenWorldAddict0 27 днів тому

      @@ExploringtheBuild Just to give you some background context, this build was my attempt to theorycraft the best character that is what i thought of a true tank in D&D 5e, which is not in how much damage they can absorb or being able to get the enemy to focus on them, but to use their large physicality and their great use of the reach weapon to deny enemies the ability to just 'go around them' and attack their squishy allies. With that in mind, on top of giving the character great defenses, a soft-taunt and having ways to do extra damage; I chose multiple features that provide different ways (and use different parts of the action economy) to either slow enemies down or stop their movement completely.
