    Your biggest issue with the gaming OC was an LED effect? Are you serious? Turn it off if it bothers you. The gigabyte OC is still the best aftermarket card on the market the boost clocks and relative performance on it are comprable to the suprim x whilst being cheaper by like 500-600$. It also has the best memory cooling on the market bare none making oc capabilities on this a dream. You clearly don't care about the led effect nic you made your intentions known with a freudian slip by saying ''of course everything needs a led effect nowadays''. Also this card is quiet as heck. To anyone watching get a gigabyte gaming OC. If you're thinking of getting a 4090, get this model. If you don't want to pay the exhorbarant 2k price point for a suprim x this is the next best thing whilst being better in some regards and vastly cheaper.

    • @sterntechdaddy
      @sterntechdaddy 2 дні тому

      Completely serious. It's very distracting. But please note that this is the only issue with it. Just about every 4090 is great though and as this was one of the cheapest it is probably the best aftermarket card currently available as you say. If they had just put the LED's around the edge of the fan ports... The LED's have been turned off and my customer is happy. Personally, if I was having LED's then everything would have LED's. It's conspicuous (and irritating) with the LED's on, but it's conspicuous with the LEDS off if the rest of the PC lights up... Not sure my comment was actually Freudian, everything does have to have LED bling... assuming you want to spend the extra money on it. I probably should've added that statement just to clarify. I do actually care a lot about LED bling. I love it. See my other videos. But also see the PC this card is in at the end of this video. 😍

    What was the ambient temperature during the test? How do you have the 7800X3D configured? I have it in ECO mode (65W), PBO -25, and EXPO (6000) enabled, with an ambient temperature of 23°C and an Arctic Liquid Freezer 3 360 AIO push/pull (6 fans) in a case with a lot of airflow (HAF-X), and in prime95 (blend test & small FFTs) I reach a maximum of 63°C. Only a 3°C difference with the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 Evo? What kind of magic is Thermalright using? It’s true that in games, the maximum temperature I’ve reached is 60-62°C with a 31°C ambient, so could it be that with my current configuration I would get the same temperatures with the PS 120 Evo? If that’s the case, there wouldn’t be much reason to stick with an AIO in terms of safety/reliability... Would it be better to wait for the release of the Thermalright Royal Pretor Ultra 130?

    • @sterntechdaddy
      @sterntechdaddy 2 дні тому

      I didn't approach this with lab rules in mind - I have no idea what the ambient temperature was, but I do mention that its warm in the room. Because it was. :D The CPU is on the defaults (voltages, etc) apart from the XMP for the 6000Mhz RAM being enabled. I put the CPU in and when it first booted I checked it was identified correctly in the BIOS and then enabled XMP. That's all. The case, however, is the Lian Li 011 EVO XL in reverse mode. So the rear exhaust fans are now on the bottom of the rear panel. And the fans are blowing cool air in directly onto the cooler - which might be helping. Especially are there are two 120mm fans there because the motherboard tray has been moved higher up. There's also 3 x 140mm fans on the bottom blowing air up into the case. So if your case is the more usual 'right side of the desk' layout then your CPU will be getting fed hotter air from the GPU below it - especially if it's a newer card with the blow through cooler at the front end of it. My customer will pick up the PC later today and I've already asked them to keep a note of maximum temperatures. They'll be leaving HWInfo running and then noting down the maximum temp it records when they finish a session. I was a bit surprised too - but the numbers don't lie and I've shown them in the video as proof. I'm just wondering how much of a difference the case is making because of it's unusual layout. If you've already got a cooler fitted then you may as well keep it and get on with the gaming... :)

    • @Dani-t2p
      @Dani-t2p 2 дні тому

      Indeed, my case has a classic layout: At the front, two 140mm Noctua IPP Industrial 3000RPM fans on top (which directly channel air to the heatsink), and a Silversone Air Penetrator 180mm fan at the bottom regulated with a fan controller, a 120mm Nidec GT 2150RPM exhaust fan at the back, another 180mm Silverstone on the side panel to help cool the GPU (Sapphire 7900 XTX Nitro+ Vapor X), and the 6 fans of the AIO are also industrial (120mm Deltas at 3400RPM). As you can see, noise is not a problem for me since I’m aiming for raw cooling performance (I used to have a custom loop on an AM3+ platform, and when I upgraded to AM5 last year, I preferred to go with air cooling and an AIO because of maintenance terms). So, in terms of airflow, I’ve set up a true overkill 😅. I tried a Deepcool Assassin 3 before this LF 3 360, and the real difference is probably around 2°C in idle in favor of the LF3, but I haven't been able to calculate well in gaming-maybe 3-5°C. But I’ve been eyeing the PS120 Evo for a while now, and I’m still tempted to try it, especially seeing the minimal difference with 360 AIOs... Will it be better than the Deepcool Assassin 3 I had? I think it might be... Any test data you gather with the PS120 Evo, keep me posted! Thank you very much, mate! 🙂

    • @sterntechdaddy
      @sterntechdaddy 6 днів тому

      That might be tricky for all sorts of reasons... but you can dismantle yours and check for stickers with part numbers on. Google them and see what appears. In my experience, the screens are pretty easy to find, but the plastic lids and bezels are not usually available unless you get lucky. I have bought damaged laptops on eBay and swapped the parts over though - this used to be a good idea for SONY laptops, but isn't really cost effective now. Note that the lids and bezels are usually plastic - so you could get some proper epoxy glue and repair them that way. :)

    • @sterntechdaddy
      @sterntechdaddy 6 днів тому

      Download the BIOS using another computer, and the put the file in on a USB stick - follow the instructions as you might have to rename the downloaded file. Plug the USB stick into the faulty computer, boot and enter the BIOS. If that works then you should be able to update the BIOS using the flash program. It depends on the motherboard though... but most modern motherboards have a BIOS Flash util built into their BIOS. Hope that helps.

    @sterntechdaddy, thanks for sharing this video. I actually just received a laptop with the windows 11 today. I've just made my first mistake by not plugging it in before hitting the power button! I don't know how I missed that step from the small manual but I did! Now I am still stuck on what region to choose! 0:43 I figure if I select Canada I'll wind up having limited use and browsing abilities. 😐 I thought your video was very helpful, and I was hopeful, thought I could follow along but since reading the edits I don't have enough confidence in myself to do it alone. I wish it wasn't the case! Btw I'm 3 hours into the set up. Okay, but for 2 hours I just let the battery charge. 😂

    • @sterntechdaddy
      @sterntechdaddy 7 днів тому

      I'm not sure about Canada... they probably have a fairly relaxed and sensible attitude to the Internet, but you should just choose the region where you live because that will setup time zones and keyboard mapping correctly. You also don't need to wait for it to charge - you can use it immediately if the mains is connected and turned on. You can pause the video and rewind too... so just take your time. If the video doesn't match your particular laptop then don't worry - just do the bits that do match. :)

    • @sterntechdaddy
      @sterntechdaddy 16 днів тому

      No - you don't ned to dismantle the case to get the PSU out. There's a screw on the front and a screw on the opposite side of the power supply that holds it in place. Remove those two screws and the PSU just lifts out. It's got a separate bracket attached to it which makes swapping it out really easy. Hey! I feel so lucky to find your video. You just posted it 2 weeks ago and have decided to clean up my notebook today. I was confused as to why the back panel didn’t want to go off. Would have never guessed that you have to pull off the keyboard first. But in my case, when I pull up the keyboard it doesn’t go up with the black layer. Only the panel between the keys goes up. Don't know what to do. Don't want to damage anything

    • @sterntechdaddy
      @sterntechdaddy Місяць тому

      Not sure what you mean by the black layer - the keyboard has a black bottom, but that is very much part of the keyboard and not a separate thing. If the screws holding the keyboard in place are removed then it comes off as shown. Note that there are two screw mounts on the bottom of the keyboard - the DVD drive is one and the other more obvious.

Search for "52mm Lens Filter Adapter Ring for GoPro Hero9 Black Action Camera Hero 9 10" and hopefully you'll find the AliExpress listing I spotted. CPU support is listed here… www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-B760-P-DDR4/support#cpu 🙂 12400 was on the last page of i5 results - it is supported if you’ve got the right version of the BIOS.

      But if it was working with the older BIOS but not after the update then I’d revert back to the older BIOS. Unless you’ve got a compelling reason to update, there’s no need to… if it’s not broken, don’t try and fix it. 😜

      Also check the GPIO drivers as they control the touch screen. The comments for the video in the link about discuss that. The barerobert comment from about 5 years ago has the full details.

      @sterntechdaddy Місяць тому

      You can pretty much get rid of anything with HP in its name - just keep an eye out for something that might relate to the Fn keys. I would take a photo/screenshot of the list, remove things and if anything weird happens you can then put it back. Generally doing a complete wipe and reinstall using a vanilla Windows USB is probably easier as you’ll also be able to reclaim the space used by the HP recovery image. This can be 23GB. 🙂

    Hi NIc, I found your videos for easy to follow and understand. I have a small issue I wanted your feedback. I shrink the C drive by 250 MB - Now I have a 250 Unallocated area. I followed the rest of the steps to delete and create the new RE partition. For some reason, the newly 250 MB space we created didn't "merged" with the 529 MB RE partition. Had anyone experienced this before? Any way to merge the 2 partition together and completing the process? Thank you!

    • @sterntechdaddy
      @sterntechdaddy Місяць тому

      The partition that you can shrink needs to be adjacent to the WinRE partition - then when you recreate the partition the 250MB of space made by shrinking and the space created by deleting the WinRE partition get added together.

    • @galg3967
      @galg3967 Місяць тому

      @@sterntechdaddy Thanks. How do I make them adjacent to each other? When I shrink the C Drive by 250 MB, it is sitting on the right side of the C Drive and the WinRE is on the left side of the C Drive.

    • @sterntechdaddy
      @sterntechdaddy Місяць тому

      That might be called WinRE, but it could be a boot partition that's about 100MB in size, then C: which will use the bulk of the space on the drive and then, hopefully, the actual WinRE partition that the tools are on which should be around 512MB. You might also have the OEM Recovery Partition - this will be bigger though - they can be 23GB. The actual layout can vary a bit though. You might need to use a more powerful tool to move the partitions about. Who made your computer?

    • @sterntechdaddy
      @sterntechdaddy Місяць тому

      It’s unusual for Windows not to detect any kind of network device… you might need to run a cable to your router, but if the LAN port isn’t detected then I would use a USB Wi-Fi adaptor. Run Windows Update once you get a connection and look for the optional updates. Install all of them. 🙂

  • @sterntechdaddy
    @sterntechdaddy Місяць тому

    If you use Office 365 and have Outlook installed then... it depends what flavour of email you're using - IMAP or POP. For IMAP email accounts you don't need to backup the emails. They are stored on the server of the company that supplies your email. Note that Microsoft Exchange is Microsoft's version of the more general IMAP - so its a remote server based system too. For POP it's different. These emails are taken from the server and stored locally in PST files. By default, Outlook creates a folder in your Documents and puts the PST file there. I find this a problem because PST files can get very large over time and each time you run Outlook the PST file will change as emails arrive. The whole file gets marked as changed even if just one email arrives. So this script will backup the PST file every time - and if it's several GB then that will slow the backup down a lot. I have moved my Outlook PST file to a separate folder on C: and have a separate script to back it up. I like PST files as I have emails going back many, many years and don't really want to pay extra for a larger IMAP mailbox on my domain. What is important for both IMAP and POP is the autocomplete - this is the data associated with then email addresses that Outlook remembers. This data is stored in a file that starts with Stream_Autocomplete and then has a random set of letters and numbers in the name. For Office 2021 you'll find yours here: C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\RoamCache You can add that to the script and tweak it so it gets copied too. ;) Note that if you're not sure if you''re using IMAP or POP email then you'll probably be using IMAP. Most ISP's and email services like GMail push you towards IMAP emails for a couple of reasons... 1. Tech support is easier as front line technicians just need to know about Webmail access rather than having a detailed understanding of all the POP compatible email clients that might be on your computer. 2. They can up sell mailboxes - as you get more emails, your mailbox can get full. You either delete them or get a bigger mailbox. Business accounts get hit by this more than home users. 3. People are using email on multiple devices more often now. With IMAP the email on your phone and computer will fully synchronize. POP doesn't do that. 4. Getting customers to use IMAP on their phones and tablets is much easier - you just enter the email and password and the server settings are automatically configured on the device. This is also true for IMAP accounts in when you set them up Outlook, but fiddling about with incoming and outgoing servers, their ports and security settings is really irritating on a phone if the settings aren't configured automatically! So most devices will use IMAP and you'll need to deliberately jump through a few configuration hoops to get POP working - both in terms of setting up Outlook, and a tweak of the mail server settings to allow POP access. I think GMail, for example, has POP access disabled by default. In summary, you don't need to backup IMAP emails, but you can backup POP. For both, there's autocomplete data. And you definitely should back that up. Hope this helps.

    For your backup script, you can use the variables %homedrive% and %homepath% to give you your current user path instead of having to do the replace on the &. Good video!

    • @sterntechdaddy
      @sterntechdaddy Місяць тому

      Thanks! I did originally think about using environment variables, but as the script only gets setup once I thought it best to lock in the folder paths. The find/replace is also simple enough, but there's a hidden narrative to doing that. If the viewer can actually do the find/replace then they'll be OK with getting the script to work. It's a little competence test that also highlights and reinforces the folder locations to help the viewer learn more about their data. :)

    I have all my data in VHDX files with bitlocker enabled. When I want to backup - I just unmount those drives and copy and paste the VHDX files to external hard drives. For my home stuff I do this once every season (Winter, Spring, Summer & Autumn). So over the year I have 4 full backups. Potentially I could lose a maximum of 3 months worth of files in a disaster situation. I could do it monthly - but I only have 4 external hard drives and I don't really want to pay for 12 of them. I never do incremental backups. The good thing is - if someone got hold of my backup drives - They won't be able to access the data without the bitlocker password.
