The Silver Stream Railway
The Silver Stream Railway is a small heritage railway located in the Hutt Valley, about 40 minutes from Wellington. The railway owns and operates a diverse fleet of heritage steam and diesel locomotives and rolling stock, and trains are normally running on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month, except in Winter.
The railway’s short 1.5 kilometre-long track follows the formation of the original main line from Wellington to Masterton - this route was closed in 1953, and the new route runs just a few hundred metres away from the railway.
During my visit on September 15th, 2024, they were running 1951-built diesel locomotive De508 and a short train of heritage carriages.

On Saturday, July 27th, Steam Incorporated operated a charter excursion for Exceed Windows and Doors with DA Diesel Locomotives 1410 and 345/1431.
